Why is driver’s negligence insurance relevant to recruitment companies?
If a recruitment company is supplying temporary drivers, they may be required to carry driver negligence insurance. This insurance provides cover against claims in respect of damage caused to vehicles being driven by agency supplied drivers to their clients.
Agencies may find that clients try to make them liable under contract in respect of such damage caused by the negligent acts of temporary workers. Th...is type of insurance can only normally be purchased in conjunction with public & employers liability. Cover for driver negligence is normally limited to either £5,000 or £10,000 per claim and the premiums are rated on the number of drivers supplied.
Drivers normally have to be older than 23 with a least 2 years driving experience and at least 180 days working as a driver on the size of vehicle that they are using as an agency driver. Some insurers can be more flexible than others on this stipulation.

Food and Drink Trends for 2019
Leading businesses in the food industry have recently predicted what food and drink trends to expect in 2019, based on their market research, sales figures and more. We take a look at what is set to prosper in the next year.
Savoury ice cream
... New ice cream flavours are predicted to catch on in 2019, encapsulating the food trends that previous years have bought. Ice cream lovers can expect to see bases featuring avocado, hummus, tahini and coconut water. Producers are hoping that the demand for these will increase as more people catch on. The flavours and techniques are inspired by Thai and Turkish influences which have risen in popularity through videos of street sellers going viral on social media.
Meat alternatives
Whilst plant-based alternatives and veganism have already risen dramatically in popularity in recent years, supermarkets predict that there will continue to be a boom in products advertised as meat alternatives. Companies such as Impossible Foods have worked to develop meat substitutes which look, taste and act just like the real deal. Their Impossible Burger even bleeds when you cut it, giving the impression of a perfectly cooked beef burger whilst remaining suitable for vegans.
Environmentally friendly packaging
Following David Attenborough’s unflinching portrayal of the impact plastic pollution has on marine life, there has been a huge increase in public demand for less packaging or suitable plastic alternatives. Whilst small changes have already been implemented, there are much bigger ones on the horizon, from no-waste stores to drastic changes for single-use products. Manufacturers and sellers will need to stay on the ball with these in 2019. The focus will be on sustainability.
Bitter is the new sweet
2019 will see the rise of bitter flavours dominating the food and drinks market. We’ve had sweet, we’ve had sweet and salty… now it’s time for bitter to take the lead. This will see the charring of food in restaurants, right through to dark chocolate, kale and drinks like Negroni or Aperol Spritz. It’s considered that this may be a reaction to the public’s call to reduce their sugar consumption.
Alcohol-free booze
Waitrose predicts a surge in alcohol-free spirits hitting their shelves, following on from statistics which suggest that the public want more adult-friendly alcohol-free alternatives. This has the potential to extend to restaurants and bars who can offer delicious alcohol-free cocktails without compromising on the base flavours.
If you work in the food industry, whether it be production, manufacturing or sales, we can tailor an insurance policy to see you through another year. Contact our team at Riverdale Insurance Brokers on 0161 241 5241 to find out more.

Movie Liability: Missed insurance claims in Tinseltown
Is Christmas really Christmas without the classic films that seem to have been with us forever? There are few better feelings over the festive period than cosying up with snacks in front of our favourite flicks. For the characters involved, though, it’s stressful, humiliating and often painful. Without further ado, we take a look at some of the claims these fictional folks could have made had they wised up on their insura...

What actually counts as ‘fair wear and tear’? Landlords and tenants have been arguing over this question for a long time – sometimes formally, when it comes to deposit disputes at the end of a tenancy.
Alternative Dispute Resolution services tend to side with the tenant unless the landlord can provide suitable evidence of the property’s condition at the tenancy’s start and end to support their claim.
Property damage and poor cleanliness are both far easier to identify if ther...e is an inventory management report and schedule of condition in place from the start of the tenancy.Deposit protection schemes are now mandatory, yet many landlords still choose not to have a professional inventory taken at the start of a tenancy.
Now, regulatory trade body the Association of Independent Inventory Clerks (AIIC), which has over 850 members nationwide, is calling on the government to introduce compulsory inventories.According to one tenant survey by HomeLet, 70% of tenants surveyed received an inventory of the property and its contents, but 12.5% of renters have had a deposit withheld – most commonly for cleaning and redecoration costs.
“Independent, third party inventories are a fundamentally important part of the lettings process and they need to be made obligatory,” said Danny Zane, joint chair of the AIIC, suggesting that now is the perfect time for the government to think about the private rented sector.“In the past, politicians have been quick to praise the success of compulsory deposit protection – introduced in 2007.”
“But if there is no unbiased inventory detailing the condition of the property at the beginning and end of the tenancy, then all this good work is undermined and it could be argued that taking deposits and protecting them is essentially rendered pointless.”
“Landlords and letting agents should not be compiling what can very easily be considered as biased inventory reports that tenants must sign prior to getting access to their new home.
An unbiased and independently compiled inventory can save both tenants and landlords money, ensuring a fair move-in/move-out process for all parties.”
