This pheasant was brought into our Oakwood practice by a lady after he got stuck in the grill of her car when he ran in front of her.
Apart from losing a few tail feathers and having a bruised leg he's perfectly fine and is now residing at a rescue centre until he can be released again!

This is Charlie who came in to our Oakwood practice this week for a post op check after having surgery for a pyometra at the start of May!
She is doing really well and healing nicely so doesn't need to be reseen again. She enjoyed a celebratory treat and lots of fuss today.
A pyometra is an infection of the uterus which can develop when bacteria enters the uterus through the cervix which opens during the animal's season. It is more common in older animals but can occur at a...ny age, in any species after a season.
Signs can be the your pet becoming quiet lethargic, panting a lot, going off of their food, drinking excessively and sometimes discharge can be seen coming from the vulva.
The easiest way to prevent this is by getting your pet spayed as soon as they can be.

Did you know... Veterinary nurses must continually maintain, develop and broaden their skills and knowledge by completing a minimum of 45 hours, during each three years, they are on the Royal College Veterinary Surgeons register, of continually professional development (CPD).
This helps ensure their skills and knowledge are up to date with new technologies, protocols and procedures, within the veterinary field, and can also help develop personal qualities, to ensure they give... the best professional care to your pets, in their care and to you, their clients.
CPD can range from in-house training, where they are learning something new in their workplace, attendance at conferences, courses or seminars, giving lectures/presentations to others, to help improve their knowledge, studying for a further qualification and reading of veterinary journals, to name but a few.
The CPD is then logged on to their personal professional development record, which is regularly reviewed by the RCVS, to ensure that registered veterinary nurses, remain capable and competent within their practice.
