First visit today - Sunday lunch for my wife's birthday. Wanted to go somewhere different and not disappointed. Food was great, as was the service. Thank you.

User

First visit for us, for a Family meal last night, the 6th October. Booked by my Nephew for 13 of us and I must say that we were really impressed. Not only with the quality of food, but also with the service and friendly nature of the staff.

The only surprise and disappointment for me was that it wasn't a lot busier with it being a Friday night, which is difficult to understand.

Lovely place with a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be returning.

Thanks.

All the years I’ve been visiting I’ve yet to experience a bad meal! Tina and the team are so accommodating and absolutely nothing is a bother. Fantastic home cooked food every time and service to boot. Not forgetting Brian, top bar man, always has a smile!

Keep up the good work guys. You get 10*’s from me.

Went for Sunday lunch this week after being told it was a good lunch. Had to wait 10 mins to get a car parking space the place was that full. Finally got parked and went in. The place has a lovely, homely feel about it. Got a table for 6 quick enough. No complaints there. Got seated then went to the bar for drinks and ordered food. I had the roast beef dinner along with my husband. Took around 15 mins before our table started being served. Had to ask for additional vegetables as we had only one small tray between 6 of us. Should have been a tray per two people. They brought us only one additional tray so still short by one tray. The cheesey cabbage was beautiful. My only disappointment was that the roast beef was definitely shop bought slices. Every slice was the same thickness and size and it was tough and cold. For £8.95 a head for thr beef I did expect the real deal. Staff were really lovely albeit rushed off their feet. Would I go again? Maybe, but wouldn't make a special effort.

Sadly, I have had to delete my review from last year to post a new, recent review.

On Monday evening, myself, husband & two children visited The Shorthorn for a meal.

It's been a favourite of ours for years (I used to often visit as a child with family) until Monday evening.

We entered to find only the bar area open (7pm) with only 3 tables taken, to be told to grab our own menus & find a table.

We ordered our food and waited well over an hour for our food to arrive, we didn't complain as we know the food is amazing & usually worth it.

When our food arrived, my husbands Parmesan looked like it had been left in the oven for the full hour! It was so dry, no bechamel sauce to be seen (due to its being that dried up) and it was just so disappointing.

Upon return of the waitress, we mentioned it to her & she was very apologetic & agreed with us, but then said that's how they are served there... they are clearly not as we have had them before.

The waitress offered another to be made, but due to myself & children already having our meals and after waiting well over an hour, on a school night (by this time it was rather late for the children), my husband said it doesn't matter, as the waitress said it'll take another 20mins. So my husband said he wouldn't haven't anything, I asked what food would be quicker & she said the curry only takes 5-10 mins, so he said he'd just have that, which isn't what he really wanted but hadn't ate for most of the day.

As we were eating our meals, the one waitress, who was also the bar maid & everything else, had a few girls sat in the small relaxed bar area behind us on the opposite side of the bar, who we recognised

as normally work there. They were having a huge argument & raised voices the whole time we were there with the girl behind the bar working, which is not what we wanted to hear while sat trying to eat our meal. The girl serving was clearly upset & asked the other girls to leave her alone.

Could this not have been done in their own time instead of infront of customers?

Upon leaving, we got the bill, we received no good will gesture for the parmesan, which I know was replaced, but with a different dish that we still had to wait for.

The evening was very disappointing & has put us off returning, which is sad due to it being a favourite of ours.

We were actually going to book for New Years Day with family, but after the awful experience, we'd rather not now.
