Simon Says… same vibe, different thing!
Hi everyone! We’ve come back to let you all know that, Simon Says … isn’t returning this year. There are repairs being carried out in the auditorium at the hall which means we can’t run multiple stages and whatever we do, it won’t be the same event as you’ve come to know and love, so we’ve had a think and are going to do something else this year.
One of the great things about Simon Says… is the leg-up it gives local bands with the chan...ce to perform to audiences they wouldn’t normally be in front of. Even though the bulk of our new outdoor programme is made up of well-established acts, we feel it’s also an incredibly important opportunity to help emerging bands, so we have teamed up with our friends at BBC Introducing East Midlands for a new event this year. It’s going to be a day-long celebration of local and regional musicians, curated by the Introducing team, who have been out and about eyeing up local talent.
In line with the Simon Says… ethos we’re keeping the ticket price as low as possible, with special family offers available, to make this a day that everyone can enjoy – and as ever, we’ll see how it all goes and then have a further ponder about 2020!

We have a big project planned for next year to improve the gardens and outdoor space at De Montfort Hall, to make it easier to put on more outdoor events in the future.
The project means the gardens will be a bit of a mess throughout the summer, so we’ve come to the difficult decision not to put on Simon Says in 2018, as we won’t have anywhere to hold the festival.
We absolutely love Simon Says and from the amazing feedback we’ve had over the past five years, we know that yo...u’re pretty keen on the event too. It gives us a perfect chance to let everyone enjoy our gorgeous gardens and the best of the Leicester music scene in a real community celebration.
So it’s not been an easy decision – but with all the work going on in the gardens there just won’t be room to hold the festival.
Thanks to everyone who has come to Simon Says over the years – we really couldn’t do it without you. We hope you understand our decision for 2018 and hope to see you at a future event here at De Montfort Hall.
