Southwell Methodist Church Description

Who we are:
Southwell Methodist Church is a family of different people, of all ages and backgrounds who seek to connect with God and connect with others. Whoever you are, you are assured a very warm welcome at Southwell Methodist Church.

When to arrive:
This depends on the event you're coming to but if you're thinking of joining us for our Sunday services, then you can arrive just before 9: 15am for the early service informal service (which includes activities for children) or just before 10: 45 for the more traditional service. We also have regular 'Worship For All' which aims to have something for everyone.

Parking:
If you are driving then you'll be pleased to hear that there is free parking. For directions to reach us please see the Location page. You'll be greeted on the door by our welcoming team who will give you some information about the church and notices of forthcoming events.

What to wear:
This is easy. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people as they are. There is no need to dress up to try and be someone that you're not. Whether you come as a suited businessman or a freaked-out punk that is fine with us.

What to expect:
For some people going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here's a quick summary of what you can expect at Southwell Methodist Church. First of all we aren't super-spiritual beings, we all had a 'first day' at church, you'll find we are a friendly bunch, if you don't understand something please simply ask.

Our worship consists of some singing (though you don't need to know the songs, you can join in or simply let the music wash over you) some time in prayer (where we speak to and listen to God) and some time sharing through discussion, presentations and reflective times. Our times together are usually less than an hour.

Communion services:
Our gatherings sometimes include 'Communion' which is where we share a small piece of bread and a tiny glass of non-alcoholic wine to symbolise Jesus' body and blood, which were given for us to show how much God loves us. It reminds us of what Jesus has done for us and looks toward heaven, where we believe there will be a great banquet. Anyone who seeks to follow Jesus is welcome to share in this!

What we believe:
We are a Christian church and believe that all can have relationship with God. We believe this relationship with God is possible because of Jesus (God's only son) who invites us to follow him. We have friendly relationships with other local churches from both traditional and modern backgrounds. If you are interested in exploring the Christian faith then please come along on a Sunday.

Is it just Sundays?
Absolutely not! God is with us all week long and we aim to lead lives pleasing to him. We're not perfect and we do make mistakes, but we desire to make a positive difference in everything we do. To further encourage us we have small groups who meet during the week (a small group is simply a meeting of maybe 10 people in someone's house). Small groups are a great way to get to know others in the church and to be real with each other about everyday living. If you are just looking into Christianity you are welcome to come along to a small group.

For those with disabilities:
We aim to be an all-inclusive church and we don't envisage there being any barriers which might exclude folk from our worship, however, if you wish to discuss specific needs please contact the minister. Our premises are accessible for those with disabilities. Both the kitchen and toilets are accessible and we have a loop for the hearing impaired.
