This week in the Garden Room ŌĆśRising 3ŌĆÖsŌĆÖ, we will be learning lots about early maths, whilst learning about gardening and Spring. The children will be encouraged to plant flowers in pots using forks and mud... ŌĆ£but how many flowers can they plant in a pot?ŌĆØ If the pot has a number ŌĆś3ŌĆÖ on it, can they count and plant 1..2..3 flowers? Another pot may show a different number, ŌĆ£but I wonder if that number is more or less than their first pot?ŌĆØ There are open ended yellow and gr...een resources added to the playdough to provoke their imaginations.....ŌĆØwhat could we create with all these objects? Maybe we could use the green tissue paper as leavesŌĆØ, ŌĆ£my flower has 1, 2, 3 leaves, I wonder how many hours has?ŌĆØ And finally, we are encouraging the children to develop stronger fingers by threading beads onto pipe cleaners in plant pots. ŌĆ£Mine has 1, 2, beads on it, but yours has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...so yours has a lot more than mine!ŌĆØ

This week, in The Garden Room, we have enhanced our house with compost, herbs and gardening tools. The children will be able to explore the compost using the tools use their senses when touching, and smelling the herbs. They will be using their Communication and Language skills (Speaking) when learning new words. We have a box with different sized holes cut out of it. The children will be learning about different sizesas they try to post items...Mathematics (Shape Space and ...Measure). They will learn that some balls don't go in some of the holes. We have a tray filled with lemons and chives and parsley and mint. The children can explore and use their senses when handling and smelling them. In our malleable tray, we have rice, plant pots, and a variety of scoops and spoons. The children will be using their Communication and Language skills (Speaking) when filling up the pots they will also use their Mathmatical skills ( pShape Space and Measure) when filling and emptying the containers. Our story this week is ŌĆśJaspers BeanstalkŌĆÖ. We have lots of props to tell the story with. The children will be able to use them and tell the story themselves.

A fabulous well done to L and his family who completed the Lincoln Mini Run in the holiday. He has chosen to donate his sponsorship money towards our walking bus fund. A huge thank you and well done.

This week we are very proud to share that we have been part of a cooking project for the last 18 months and have been published in a book this week. We believe that healthy eating and food confidence is so important in the early years and are proud to be involved in this process.
