About Staunton Harold Sailing Club

Active Sailing club based in Derbyshire near the village of Melbourne, racing, cruising, family friendly, RYA training, Open events and social events

Staunton Harold Sailing Club Description

Staunton Harold Sailing Club is a friendly club situated in Derbyshire on an open water with attractive surroundings. We have a modern and comfortable clubhouse. Sailing is available all year round with a comprehensive training programme. We also have an active youth and junior fleet and a full social programme.

Currently the club has approximately 800 members, with ages from five to over 70 participating in very active racing and cruising sections. The racing is on Sundays, Saturdays and Wednesday evenings in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, and most Sundays during the Winter. Members can cruise any time so long as there is a safety boat on the water, with Thursday and Friday nights reserved exclusively for them. The club also holds open meetings annually for Fireballs, Lasers, RS200s, Scorpions, GP14s, Enterprises, Comets, Optimists, and Toppers.

The club has been a Volvo Youth Sailing RYA Champion Club for some time, and as such has a very active and enviable comprehensive training school with a good number of RYA trained instructors drawn from within the membership. Sailing courses include RYA Levels 1 and 2 (both adult and youth) for members and non-members, refresher days, learning to race days, and 'taster' days for non members keen to give sailing a try. Powerboat courses include RYA Levels 1 and 2 certification, and safety boat certification

Thanks to Storm Eric the first day of this year's #NottsCountyCooler had to be called off. Nonetheless the race team at Notts County Sailing Club still managed to put in a full five races on the Sunday! To read the full race report please click on the link below.

The #NottsCountyCooler was the first in a three centre East Midland Mini Series. You can still qualify for the series by racing at Ogston Sailing Club on 2...3/24th February (#OgstonWoolleyJumper) and then at Staunton Harold Sailing Club on 2/3rd March (#StauntonBlaster). So why not pop the dates in your diary and see us on the water!

What a day out on the water for everyone taking part in the #NottsCountyCooler today. 36 boats on the water, 14 different classes from seven different clubs. Thank you to hosts Notts County Sailing Club for a thoroughly enjoyable event - three races back to back before lunch and a further two afterwards.
Congratulations to our very own Grahame Newton/ Rachael Rhodes (Scorpion), first overall. Ogston Sailing Club 's Martin Honor (Solo) came second and Staunton's Craig Williamson (RS Aero 7) came third. Well done to all our travelling sailors. Now everything to sail for at the #OgstonWoolleyJumper.
