Aerodrome Update - The specialist teams are arriving this morning to start the clear up. The runway has been swept and is clear of debris. Therefore we can accept some essential non commercial traffic with AFIS approval on 01604 801630.

User

No sign of the specialist FOD collectors so it looks like closure again tomorrow. More updates in the morning.

Piper PA-34 Seneca II G-PEGI visiting on the 6th May

User

Post-fire update. The emergency services have handed the aerodrome back to us and they are withdrawing from the site. Specialist teams have been booked to clear debris off the airfield along with a sweeper to clean the concrete surfaces. It is presently unclear how long this process will take, more will be promulgated when known, but for now the airfield remains closed to all aircraft movements.

User

Due to on-going fire fighting operations and the presence of FOD on aerodrome surfaces, we will be closed to all aircraft movements Wed 8th May.

Piper L-21B 135 Super Cub G-HELN visiting 23rd April 2019. Originally registered 53-7765 to the USAF (FMS) it became I-EIWB in 1955 before taking up Italian military markings as MM53-7765. A change of serial saw it become MM52-2392 (possibly after a change of fuselage frame with C/N 18-1992 ?) and then it was sold to the UK as G-BKDG in 1982. It took up its current marks G-HELN in 1986.

User

What a fantastic place, the attention to detail in the decor, the staff are brilliant and so friendly, and considering it's an airfield, it is so peaceful.

User

The Pilots Mess is a great place for a quick bite to eat and a cuppa whilst watching the airplanes, but The Aviator is a lovely 1930's building with a 1930's theme inside. Great food and only £14.95 for a two course Sunday lunch- excellent food for a very reasonable price . Suggest you book in advance though. Three course Sunday lunch £17.95. Can't wait to return!!

User

Really brilliant corporate day with Blades. The whole site is well presented and the buildings are so well renovated and preserved. There was absolutely no feeling of a tiny, pokey industrial type of airfield, such as you sometimes find elsewhere. All the staff bent over backwards to make the day a great experience, even for me, who elected not to take advantage of the flying opportunity. My son has special needs and they made him feel both special and 'normal'. I can't fault it at all.

User

Lovely place to go for a lovely lunch and watch the planes at the same time.

User

Just taken my parents here for lunch as they are visiting for a few days from the North . Can't praise this enough , the place itself is in a fantastic location overlooking the airfield .

The staff in The Aviator restaurant are friendly and helpful and its service with a smile .

The food was absolutely lovely , had a lovely couple of hours .

Pat on the back , job well done we will be back !!

User

It's a lovely place to spend an afternoon. Watching the planes and helicopters. Free car park and a place to have a drink, what more could you want ?

User

I'm beginning to really love Sywell! Great runways to handle most wind conditions and plenty of grass options too. The Pilot's Mess is BRILL and I LOVE the bacon and mushroom sandwich!!

User

I stayed overnight Wednesday in the Aviator Hotel, and flew in The Grace Spitfire on Thursday afternoon. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the flying experience. I have was well looked after by Caroline Grace and her team, and the food in the Restaurant and Bar was good too. I also would complement the Aerodrome on being so tidy and clean, with well manicured grass areas.

User

I love everything about Sywell, I take my grandaughter Courtney and grandson masson they both love it so much , a visit consists of going to see the blades in the hanger then on to checking the repair shop to see how work is going , after that a trip into the pilots mess for refreshments while watching any aircraft movements whilst seated on the overlooking balcony , it's then off for a much deserved lunch at the aviator hotel , there classic is pop and a mega fishfinger sandwich made with fresh uncut bread, after lunch it's over to the fountain to throw a few shillings and make a wish.... that's simple. To Comeback again! ...

User

I have been to Sywell Aerodrome more times than I can remember since 2003. I now call it the "home from home" for AZCN.

The Pilots' Mess has good food, value for money and a brilliant atmosphere.

The Aviator Hotel is one of the best I've stayed in and ALL of the staff are a welcoming happy bunch.

The airfield is always kept in very good order and is a great place to fly to and from.

User

I have a different perspective of the venue as I performed in a band here in December 2015..

We were all treated with respect and taken care of terrifically well for the afternoon setup and throughout the night show. The privacy and comfort of the back room changing facilities was very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

We are booked again for December 2016, so I look forward to seeing you.

User

Great place to work and for public to go and watch aeroplanes, excellent museum, great cafe with balcony overlooking all the activity

User

Flew into Sywell after winning the Pilot Magazine / Trig Aerobatics competition. Stayed at The Aviator hotel and quite simply have had the best weekend for years! Superb people, outstanding airfield, fabulous Art Deco hotel, great food and fine beer. I'll be back, just wish it was next weekend!

User

Flew in to Sywell for my first time on Tuesday, what a gem of a place! The service, architecture and food were great. I'll be back!

User

Fantastic loverly airport best amenities possible

And some great aircraft to see

I flew in and will be returning soon

User

A well set up place to stop off and enjoy a choice of meals in two superb restaurants one gives you the chance to enjoy your meal overlooking the parking and taxiing aircraft. While there a visit to the museum is a must but don't forget to donate towards the upkeep of this piece of history.

User

A brilliant place to stay at the lovely Art Deco aviator hotel. A great breakfast and we had a fantastic meal in the restaurant.

Sat and chilled and watched the vintage aircraft and had a fantastic weekend - highly recommend it

User

Lovely attractive airfield. Having flown in a few times all staff from ATC to restaurant are very friendly. Lovely Art Deco hotel and have stayed in it a few times and again very friendly and quiet. Such a well kept and attractive airfield just love flying in.

User

Did my first solo here so the airfield has a special place in my heart.. 😍😍😍
