Swan Upping is an annual ceremonial and practical activity in Britain in which mute swans on the River Thames are rounded up, caught, marked, and then released. Why not come down to the sight of 4 or 5 immaculate rowing skiffs arriving early evening, manned by men in red blazers. It is quite a sight! Come & enjoy drinks whilst you enjoy the views or why not book in for dinner following the entertainment?

Without a booking we popped into the Beetle and Wedge on a Tuesday evening at 7pm and were lucky enough to get the last table for two. We chose the Steak and Chips and a bottle of wine deal and the Manageress happily swapped a bottle of Merlot for white wine at our request. Water, bread and olives were brought to the table once we had ordered. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, fries were plentiful, 2 large onion rings and peppercorn sauce were a perfect accompaniment. We were asked how our meals were. Desserts (additional to the meal deal) were delightful. Overall we had the perfect meal and evening. We have been to the B&W on numerous occasions over the past 10 years at various times of the year and with diverse groups of friends or family and have never had a bad meal. Their Market Days are a great opportunity to pop along and take a look at the setting as well as an opportunity to purchase locally sourced products, fresh fish and seafood.

User

Well my friend and hes wife took us here for lunch .

What can i say , well first its set on the thames its very beautiful and has a relaxing setting .

I might add my friends wife is the mother of the chef and im very fussy about my food really i should be a food critic lol

Ive got to say the food was absolutely gorgeous and well presented and the service was exceptional .

I highly recommend this resturant 9.5 /10

User

We had the most excellent Christmas Lunch, fantastic atmosphere and the staff were brilliant! Highly recommend it. From Team Harper

User

We had our wedding reception here and it was simply amazing. It's a stunning location, all year round, and the staff were superb. From the beginning they were so easy to deal with, so accommodating, they know their stuff so we felt completely confident when we booked it. And the food, just wow! Amazing flavours, cooked to perfection. ‚ėļ

User

This was our first visit but it will not be the last. We used a gift voucher that was a present and it was well spent. The service was at all times friendly and effecient and could not be faulted. The food was first class well prepared and presented and the menu had a large and varied choice and I would not fault any of it at all.

User

Lovely lunch at the B&W yesterday, great food, friendly and helpful staff. Always one of our favourite riverside stops.

User

Living up in Edinburgh , it is difficult to visit the Beetle and Wedge as often as we would like. However , when on our trips south we always make sure that we book a table.

Beautiful food , beautifully presented and an excellent wine list , according to my husband !

How lovely to eat and drink on this stretch of the Thames. Incredibly relaxing and no mobile phones going off all the time (except mine by accident last visit ). Can't wait to be back in Moulsford.

User

Fabulous place, great food, lovely people and brilliant service. We were lucky to have a room as well, which was also fab, loved the extra little touches they put a lot of thought into everything.

User

Charming venue for an overnight stay. Staff so attentive and all the little extra touches were much appreciated. The food was delicious and the wine list was great

User

Called in whilst cruising on river for drink, with very friendly staff and a fantastic view, we decided to stay for dinner as we could also moor our boat overnight and no problem of a drink or two. Had fantastic steaks, cooked to perfection and served with a lovely Chillien Red (not tried it before, quite good).

All in all great staff, great location and brilliant food. Would definately recommend

User

A Truly Fabulous Wedding Venue! Thank you so much to the Beetle and Wedge team, for going above and beyond to make our wedding reception a wonderful celebration for all our guests on the 24th September. The staff were all brilliant making such an effort to make sure our day was as good as possible - fantastic food and wine, great service and a beautiful setting. We would recommend the venue to any couple looking for a beautiful place to celebrate the big day! Thank you to Stephanie, Charlotte and the team. Love from Dr and Mrs Knott! x x

User

We just stay here, and we enjoyed it. Location is lovely on the river with the ducks sitting on the side and the boats going past.

Drinks were standard prices, as expected them to be a bit more expensive due to location. Room was nice and suited to the restaurant and style of the place.

Starters, mains and pudding were absolutely fantastic, and there was plenty on your plate and no feeling hungry later in the evening.

Service got a bit slow to the end of the evening, but staff very friendly and polite.

Breakfast they had fresh fruit yogurts out for you to help yourself and scrambled eggs on toast was just right. Overall a lovely experience and if we had a celebration for something we would definitely look at going back.

User

We enjoyed a nice steak, perfectly cooked. We hadnt booked so were surprised to be welconed at about 8.45 ...--rhe evening was beautiful and there was a lovely flock of Canada geese that swam past us.Service was brisk and the lady who greeted us couldnt have been more helpful or pleasant.

Ww met a few nice people outside whilst sitting beside a few boats on this glorious stretch f The Thames!--Lovely..thank you...

I think it was especially nice as I hadnt been there for 25 years...and it was the memorry of when my baby Caroline Anne Amy Morrison was taken into the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford to have major surgery aged only 7 months .We had a meal here the night before the surgery...such a lovely peaceful place x

User

Very pleasant and relaxing stay, staff were very helpful. Evening meal was tasty and plenty of choice from al la carte menu or set menu, a little over priced but worth it just for the ambiance and location. The room was clean and comfortable with all extras you would expect and more.. Sweets lol and a complimentary bottle of water. The two hour walk which could have been 3 or 4 along the river was stunning..

Wonderful experience if you want to relax this time of year would recommend an overnight stay.

User

We were a bit disappointed actually the food was pretty tasteless, I had the pasta dish which was supposed to be mushrooms but although I could see them definitely couldn't taste them, hubby had steak and it wasn't very good at all very fatty, the service was really good and the setting beautiful, just need to ups their game with the food.

User

For a first time visit, I was fairly disappointed especially after being told how great this restaurant was. The steaks that were ordered were over cooked and tasteless. The pork was lovely however the crackling that was served with it was just a slab of warm fat and rind - completely inedible. It then took about 90 minutes for puddings to be served. I wouldn't have mixed so much but I was driving so couldn't even have a drink to pass the time...

Once pudding was served a few had been forgotten so some of the party ended up without (the pudding chef had gone home without realising there were more orders). After pudding, coffee was ordered and consistent with the pudding service, some of the orders when eventually arriving were missed.

Aside from the food being sub standard, the staff were very friendly people and we were compensated for the poor food and service.

User

Food over priced. My partner is a chef so wasnt inpressed. But the views of the river r great. Wood park up again but wood not spend anything in your pub as its too expensive for my likeing.

User

Beautiful location, have visited many times. My husband enjoyed his meal, but mine was below the usual high standard, plus the surly young man who served us, did not enhance the usual ambience.

We will be back, but not for a while.

User

We were there for the food fair. I ordered 2 Cappichino coffees in china cups not in plastic cups with a hot cross bun. The coffees took ages to be delivered and we're warm and the bun was not the best.
