Whilst visiting Northampton popped in over the bank holiday weekend a couple of times and loved it, staff are extremely friendly as well as the atmosphere, can't wait till I'm back down

User

Love it here. Welcoming and friendly. Great atmosphere and fab music. Great staff and of course the Karaoke is first class! So good to have a place to come to where you can feel safe and relaxed in, we will be back very soon xxx

User

Love The Boston I wouldn't go any where else when in town & all the staff & on the door are so friendly always makes us smile so would recommend The Boston any time whether your gay..straight..bi..trans well anything

User

Love Boston top night out. Awesome bar staff always happy and up for a laugh.

Good vibe , hassle free and no trouble.

Varied music.

Love my Friday night's in here and quiz night's fab too

User

It was my first time here at Bostons, met such nice people and also the bar staff were lovely even gave one a peck on the cheek as I though he was fit!

Drinks were decently priced as coming from down south in London it was a blessing to pay decent prices rather than the feeling of being ripped off. Plenty of a bit of everything going on to dancing on the dance floor playing cheesy and up to date music, to chilling in the beer garden chatting to many guys who were all fit! I was in my element! The unisex toilet were always clean and spacious. I would highly recommend for any gay or straight person to go here as it's so worth it!

I'll BE BACK SOON!!!

The only gay bar in town. It’s come a long way in the 9 years I’ve known about it for, although on the very rare occasion that we go out to any bar or club, we always end up here. Music is fun, entry is reasonable (awesome deal on Friday nights!) but the biggest let down is their ability to track people who are barred. We went last night for New Years Eve, where we got a taxi into town with our only intention of only ever to go to The Boston and no where else. I waited my turn to enter, paid my entry fee and received a wrist band, went to the bar to order my first drink (completely sober!) only to be rudely frogmarched out of the club by the door staff because they had been instructed to remove me as they were told that I was banned from the club!! After much deliberating and asking to review my I.D, they realised their error and allowed me to enter. They were apologetic but this should never be allowed to happen. It put an enormous dampener on our NYE, especially as I was with friends but I had to get over it.

With that said, I’d happily return and plan to in future whenever that may be, but please keep tabs of who you’re banning, by name, and check I.Ds thoroughly.

Great drag act for NYE - loads of fun!

Thanks

I tried to enter the Boston this evening. How rude the security men were I had not had any drink but was refused entry and to top it all Scott I believe his name was as he would not give a surname as I was walking

Away from the venue gave me the middle finger I work in the a/e department at the general hospital hopefully neither Scott or Jared will be attending when I am on duty they are bullies I am not gay or a lesbian I think you need to reprimand as if you do not I will be doing something about your establishment

As a new comer to Northampton, I have visited the Boston – Northampton's only gay gay venue, on a handful of occasions. I would like to start my review on a positive note of support for the Boston. The gay scene has broadly been in decline for a number of years; once thriving venues and villages have closed or diversified. There hasn't been a gay venue in my home town of Chesterfield for as long as I care to remember. Even long-term gay clubs such as NG1 Nottingham are no longer gay orientated. As such, it is fortunate to have a gay venue in Northampton at all. The future of the gay scene is perhaps a debate for another time.

The Boston as a venue is OK. The drinks are reasonable, the bar staff friendly enough and the outdoor space is useful. The door staff offer their usual chilly reception. I didn't expect Heaven, London so I wasn't disappointed. The only major problem I have with the Boston is the music. The playlist alternates between two extremes: uber cheese to hardcore dance. There's very little chart music and virtually no RnB. If you like songs that are older than the dawn of time then you are in luck. Personally i'm a little tired of dancing the Macarena. Old is sometimes gold, we all enjoy classics from the pop legend Michael Jackson don't we. Sadly such classics are invariably butchered into the same predictable dance format.

One look at the DJ and all becomes clear. I don't wish to be personal and I will refrain from insults. Needless to say it is time to put away the vinyl and to call it a day. On every visit I request a song and on each occasion I am met with a look of panic and confusion. Clearly deviating from the pre-arranged play list is a big ask. Unsurprisingly my requests are never played.

I would ask that the Boston management look again at the demands and needs of its clientele. Do your customers really want cheese and dance? For my part, I've not enjoyed my last two visits. For those of us who don't want to dance the Macarena, perhaps there could be a greater variety of music to cater for all tastes. Alas I fear that my comments will be dismissed as an unknowing outsider. Indeed why change now? My partner is Northampton born and bred and he informs me that the current status quo has remained unchanged in the 10 years he has been on the scene. Iol I won't hold my breath then!

User

Went to the Boston on Saturday 9th April. I was surprised at how quiet it was. I have been going to the bar occasionally since I moved to Northampton in 2007. I have noticed a decline in gay customers over the years. With a fairly large gay population in Northampton and only one gay bar I would expect it to be heaving on a Saturday night. It seemed the majority of the customers were straight. Which became even more evident after 2am when a lot of the straight clubs in town are closing. There were hardly any lesbians in the place. There always was a large lesbian crowd in the past. By 4am the place was virtually a straight bar. I feel that the management have allowed their gay clientele to be pushed out and alienated by the straight customers. I'm not one of these people who think gay bars should be only for gay people. But when a bar allows it's core clientele to be forced out, then it is not catering for their needs. Also the music is absolutely dire. I spoke to 3 people who complained about the music. This bar should not be advertising itself as a gay bar anymore. Because from what I saw it's anything but gay. Like many other people I will be avoiding this place In the future. Lets hope someone opens a decent gay bar in Northampton soon.

Was the best place in town at one point, Friday nights awesome ,I had been going there for approx 18 months , but when a certain door person was employed the whole structure and atmosphere changed , and that was just in the Q outside ,what a shame as it’s the only gay bar in town ,oh well there’s always pink punters in MK and and the rainbow and the yard in Coventry so it’s not a problem , end of an era Boston , gone and forgotten

Totally disappointed with security after people who tried to steal my designer jacket harassed myself and my friends resulted in us leaving. Security knew them BY NAME but never refuse entry to them, apparently even if you're known for causing trouble you don't get barred...according to the doorman. Disillusioned with a once favourite bar of mine, don't see myself going back anytime soon.

Door staff are unreasonable, if you break one of the silly little rules you can't possibly know about they kick you like you've been fighting. No point trying to explain to them, they have your entry fee. Quick to take your money but not interested if you have a good time after that.

Read all the reviews. Door staff are the first impression this place presents and they are crap. Avoid avoid avoid!!

User

Door staff are unreasonable, if you break one of the silly little rules you can't possibly know about they kick you like you've been fighting. No point trying to explain to them, they have your entry fee. Quick to take your money but not interested if you have a good time after that.
