This Advent Sunday, we are very happy and excited to admit our youngest member, Nathan, as a full chorister into the choir. He will be presented with his surplice at the end of Mass by Fr Ryan and our Director of Music, Jon. Congratulations!

Join us this Sunday evening at 7pm for our Advent Carol Service here at All Saints Hove. Advent is a season of expectation as the Church prepares to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ in his incarnation, and also as judge and saviour at the end of time. The readings and liturgies not only direct us to Christ’s birth, they also challenge the modern reluctance to confront the theme of divine judgement. The characteristic note of Advent is therefore expectation, rather th...an penitence. Advent focuses on the key people who were prepared and chosen by God to make possible the incarnation of his Son; the Blessed Virgin Mary, John the Baptist, Elizabeth and Zechariah; and the Old Testament prophets who look towards the coming of the Kingdom of God. Advent, then, is the season of promise and hope. β€˜O Rising Sun, you are the Splendour of eternal light and the sun of justice. O come and enlighten those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death.’ To include music by Judith Weir, Giovanni de Palestrina, and Paul Manz.

Join us this final Sunday of the liturgical year as we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King at our 10am Choral Mass. Instituted in 1925 in the aftermath of World War I, Pope Pius XI noted that while there had been a cessation of hostilities, there was no true peace throughout the world. Deploring the rise of class divisions and unbridled nationalism, he maintained that true peace can only be found under the Kingship of Christ as the "Prince of Peace". Music includes works by Basil Harwood and John Rutter.

During these harsh and difficult winter months, we give thanks for the members of our choir, volunteers from All Saints Hove, and other churches throughout Hove who give their time freely to help feed and provide a bed in a safe space for the homeless of our city. We are proud to be an inclusive church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. - 'Be present, O merciful God, and protect... us through the silent hours of this night, so that we who are wearied by the changes and chances of this fleeting world, may repose upon thy eternal changelessness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen'

'The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and the pain of death shall not touch them. To the eyes of the foolish, they seemed to perish, but they are in peace'. Join us this morning at 10am as we remember those who gave their lives for us, and who still fight for freedom, equality and peace today. Music includes Darke in Am and 'The souls of the Righteous' by Geraint Lewis.

Had an absolutely amazing time with the staff from All Saints Hove yesterday!
The choir were well respresented by our Director of Music, Jon Rawles, and our organ scholar, Jamie Andrews - who between them landed on their feet the most out of everyone! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‰πŸ‘ŠπŸ’πŸŒ²πŸŒ³

The great organ which was built by the firm of William Hill & Son, London, was originally provided with 14 organ stops when installed in 1894, and then enlarged to 48 speaking stops (including the only full length 32 Open Wood stop between London and Winchester) in 1905; in 1915 it was then encased in a double fronted organ-case of magnificent proportions designed by Frank Loughborough Pearson.
The organ was restored in 1987 and was one of the first to be awarded a historic organ certificate by the British Institute of Organ Studies as being of international importance. It has informed the restoration of other large Hill organs, including those of Peterborough and Lichfield cathedrals and also Eton College.

Thoroughly enjoyed being a part of and supporting our All Saints Hove Messy Church with Laura Darrall, Ryan A D Green, Sarah Sutherland-Rowe, and Jon Rawles with some lovely singing and games leading to our Pentecost celebration, coming soon! πŸŽ‰ πŸ”₯ β›ͺ 🎢 (though our Director of Music was sad he lost the paper prayer-aeroplane challenge...!) ✈

Have loved singing with this choir over the last year, during my times off from university. A fun and friendly group of people and great musicians, whose talent and commitment really add to the worship of the Church.
