Very sorry to have to report that Sallie has broken her arm and is due to have surgery on Thursday. Graham will be devoting his time to looking after her this weekend so he will not be able to bake to sell bread at Burbage Farmers’ Market. We hope this is a short term set back and look forward to being back on the market in March. Best wishes to all our customers.

To celebrate Real Bread week (23rd Feb to 3rd Mar) we will be holding our first Baking Experience of 2019. It is very sad that we have to announce that, due to Graham's sudden and unforeseen illness, we will have to close the bakery until early 2019. Once recuperation from his operation is complete he will be back baking with enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing our customers again in early February.

The Doorstep Bakery has been selling bread and cakes in Wymeswold for six months. Whilst we have been happy to see how much our bread has been appreciated by our customers, sadly, the demand has not grown to a level which makes the current arrangement sustainable. We hope that you will bear with us while we look at other ways of supplying our products. In the meantime, look out for us at markets and events in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Mr Bun says: “Why organic?” At the Doorstep Bakery we choose only to use organic flour in our bread. It adds to our production costs so why do we make this choice. It’s simple. This is the only way we can minimise the risk of the presence of glyphosate in our loaves. In 2013 a report published by the Health and Safety Executive on pesticide residues in food stated that more than two thirds of bread sold in the UK contained residues of chemical pesticides and herbicides, the m...ost common of which was glyphosate. Without wishing to enter the debate as to whether glyphosate is or is not harmful to human health, what we believe is that, whilst there is uncertainty over the issue, it is better to avoid introducing it into our food. Glyphosate is banned from use in organic farming, so we only use organic flour. This was a simple choice for us to make. We also believe that the use of the best quality flour improves the flavour of our bread. Hopefully this means that our customers can buy our loaves with confidence that the bread both tastes good and is healthy.
