Had a great time . Food was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful . Great idea they ha e with the board games . Loved it

User

Came in a few weeks ago for the boxing (Brook fight), service was outstanding, quick service at the bar for saying how busy the bar was... Beer garden was excellent for having drinks before the fight actually started as well with food being served quite quickly, which was a massive change from a few weeks ago!!!

User

Meals are good value and was very delicious

User

I come here regularly to eat. Staff are friendly and meals are good value. Sometimes some of the meal items are unavailable which can be a let down. Overall i recommend the Friary.

User

Great atmosphere, cheap drink offers and staff are always friendly! However, they are incapable of making a tequila sunrise cocktail. I ordered a pitcher for me and my friend and were given something I can only describe as 'toilet juice' because it was a very worrying brown due to coke being added to it, and there isn't supposed to be coke in a tequila sunrise. The staff were understanding and friendly and made me another pitcher when I took it back to say it wasn't what I asked for, but even the new pitcher wasn't a tequila sunrise either! XD I like the Friary and I will come again, but don't advertise something you can't make.

Came middle of December for a works do and had a lovely night thank you very much, service and food was great

User

Apart from them literally never having half of the menu, the food that they produce is never bad. The portions are generally well sized and come promptly but with a wait long enough to presume it's cooked freshly. During the day there is a relaxed atmosphere that's is appealing to those looking to sit and chat over a few drinks and the pool tables are a welcome addition.

User

It's a good pub for a few cheap drinks and kicking out some tunes on the jukebox. Food is a little basic for my liking but if burgers and steaks are your thing then it's worth a try. Toilets need some attention but the improvements in the rest of the bar have moved it from just a student bar

User

Came for a game of pool and a few drinks.

Ordered two pints of strongbow dark fruits , got half way down the glass to notice the state of both glasses was disgusting , left it as a one off , ordered two more after and noticed the glasses were in the same condition :(

Brought them back to the bar and watched as the bar tender sprayed them with water and filled them back up , he didn't show us the glasses before he refilled them , sat down to our drinks and had a few mouthfuls to notice the glasses were still a mess , lipstick stain and just plain filth ... Friary needs to teach it's staff how to clean glasses. :(

User

just been for a meal here after a long day at work. it's big plate day today..... I ordered the 10oz Gammon steak, should come with chips, peas, pineapple ring, fried egg, and beer battered onion rings.... I received.. a 5oz Gammon steak chips and egg... (peas were all shades of green) plate was returned to change peas. I asked where the rest of my order was .... after 5mins the waiter came back we have no pineapple rings and you only ordered a 5oz Gammon... excuse me I know what I have ordered

my son ordered the chip shop platter.... peas again were all shades of green, no bread and butter... asked to speak to a manager...we were told after a good 5 min wait they are in a meeting .... I always thought it would be good manners for a manager or team leader to address a problem effectively and efficiently. so all in all after getting our meals at varied times and the food not coming as a complete order we are extremely disappointed...... hope you can improve because I couldn't and wouldn't recommend your service to anyone....hmmmmmm was I a mystery guests ...we shall see ......

User

Unpleasant staff behind the bar who weren't friendly. Pint served with far too much head. Regarding food, both myself and my friend were given our meals with curly fries even though we had not requested them. I was served the 10 oz gammon which was very fatty, and the meal did not come with the grilled pineapple as advertised on the menu. Overall not a great experience and would not eat here again.

User

Your bouncer should be made to swop his ego with a sense of humour at the start of his shift! Jeez with people like that manning the door bet there's no trouble inside as he's too busy trying to antagonise decent people and turn them into trouble makers outside! Chill out man and learn to laugh will you before you turn away all the custom from the friary!

User

The food, when it eventually arrived was literally ice cold... I had ordered the jacket potato with chicken and cheese, the spud had a block of ice in the middle so was sent back so was another of our groups jacket potato, after yet another long wait our dinners arrived ( by this time everyone else had finished their food) the meal wasn’t worth waiting for and at least they had the good grace not to charge me for the meal... overall, avoid like the plague unless you like disgusting food

User

So disappointing, second time I have been since christmas and both times they have run out of most menu items, to top it of food was cold and incorrect informed them 5mins later came back with an inedible microwaved burger. So disappointeda

User

Recently visited the Friary for food and drink, the food was dry, tasteless and more than likely all frozen. It also took over an hour to arrive. Secondly the glasses were dirty, covered in finger prints, lipstick and what it looked like was dried vomit at the bottom of the glass... Clearly no glass washer was involved in the cleaning process, seriously though the hygiene levels are very poor.

User

Just came here for food with my Partner, He had the Beef and ale pie and I had the Gloucester beef pie.

The underneath of my partners pie was coated in tin foil and had lumps of charcoal throughout.

He realised this when he almost cracked a tooth on the charcoal.

My Gloucester pie was ok but the pastry was over cooked and hard on top but soggy and uncooked on the bottom.

My partner complained about his meal and they refunded us the money for both meals which is fine but the manager completely ignored him with not even an apology.

The only good thing was the curly fries and there not exactly hard to mess up are they.

User

I visited on Friday night and your idiotic bouncers confiscated my northern Irish driving licence and said it was fake. They kept it, threatened to shred it or take it to the police station. They forced me to walk home to grab another form of ID and kept calling me a liar.

I am disgusted and you have lost a regular customer!!!!!!

User

I and my friends were so disappointed today at our group meeting. Despite me phoning several times nothing was ready. The barmaid did a last minute push the tables together. No cutlery etc. Despite me phoning yesterday to confirm to see if everything ok. Then they took the orders which took a long time to come. Two people had jacket potato which when they went to put their knives in they were frozen solid. They took them away and after everyone else had nearly eaten their meal. The two heated jacket potatoes arrived. Two of us had sausage and mash. The mash was hard and cold in the middle. The gravy was nearly solid. Other people complained about their meals except one who was satisfied. The barmaid came and asked if everything ok. I said about the meals.. She said the manager would have a word about the other problems. We were told he would come over but he never came near. Only the barmaid apologised. It wasn't her fault. Anyone wanting to watch TV I should not bother as the TV's out of focus. There was no toilet roll in half the toilets. There are many good restaurants in the area. The Friary is not one of them.

User

Appalling, if i could give 0 stars i would, booked a table to have food and watch the football, arrived and they had no tables reserved and no record of our booking. Food offer posted all around and special Thursday offers on tables, went to order food and refused to adhere to offers displayed as England were playing. Finally managed to order food with the displayed offers, which they initially overcharged us by £4. HALF the food order arrived...which was cold...and wouldn't have satisfied an Ethiopian with an eating disorder.

The ONLY plus point of this establishment is the kind gentleman called luke, who went out of his way to rectify the attitudes and *uck ups of the other members of staff.
