Nestled beneath Waddington Fell and open moorland, Waddington is surely one of the most idyllic villages in this unspoilt corner of rural Lancashire.
Boasting a traditional informal pub atmosphere with some modern tasteful touches, The Higher Buck offers excellent food and seven beautifully appointed and individually furnished bedrooms. Whether you just want a drink, a snack or a great meal, you can be sure you'll get a hearty welcome.
We take a lot of care in the sourcing a...nd preparation of our food. Much of it is produced locally and our philosophy is to cook good, honest dishes. We make no apologies that we are a pub and you’ll find some fine local ales as well as an impressive wine list in our cosy bar.

We’ve eaten here many times and as always the food is excellent and the staff exceptional- highly recommended

We had a fantastic meal for our 20th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and the staff were all lovely, they really looked after us. Definitely will go again.

We came last night and enjoyed a fantastic meal, I had the duck salad for starter and the fillet steak for main which were perfect! The staff were all very attentive and the service excellent even considering they were full booked everything was on point!

We arrived without a booking but they could see how hungry we all were so squeezed us in. The children’s meals were delicious and devoured as was my beef wellington. Thank you to all the staff for being so warm and welcoming, it’s a pretty intimidating prospect eating out with three children single handed.

Took the hubby for father's day who can be slightly fussy but from the amazing staff to an outstanding meal it's safe to say he was very impressed!!! ���

The food was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The amenities were modern and clean.

Some of the best food I've had. To say that we had an issue with the starter which had to be replaced with a totally different dish, and then come away saying that it was one of the best meals we've had is a big compliment. The dishes were really special and tasted fantastic! The service was great too. Really friendly and always on hand should you need it. They really went out their way to do something extra. Will definitely be returning in future with friends and family �

Had another lovely meal at the Higher Buck. Duck cooked to perfection. My husband had the fish pie which he really enjoyed. We will be back.

First time visiting (& staying over) the higher buck at the weekend and it won’t be the last. We love ‘the Bonny inn’ so we vaguely knew what to expect.. & we wasn’t disappointed. Food was amazing! - we had afternoon nibbles to tie us over til our evening meal & then breakfast in the morning... all was superb! The room was gorgeous (‘Buck’ room) and they even let me drop of a surprise birthday cake the day before to be in the room when we checked in. It’s in a fantastic area too for if you want a walk with the dog or a few more local pubs to venture to. If you’re thinking of going and reading the reviews to see what people think - get it booked! Thankyou to the higher buck, your staff were all wonderful - very friendly & attentive xx

Excellent food, staff were brilliant. I had the Sunday lunch - the beef was amazing! My husband had the Lancashire cheese pie - the best ever. My only complaint is that we didn’t have enough room for dessert after the generous portions.

Currently staying around the area on holiday, after taking a random drive through some country lanes to see what beautiful places I could find around the area, the higher buck looked amazing from the outside and decided we had to book in and try it, we came for a Sunday roast, our favourite food, but we have never tasted a meal like it, the beef melted in your mouth, the Yorkshire perfect and homemade, the veg was beautiful, and the staff were all great, I would recommend everybody to try here, I can’t wait to come back

Been a couple of times now the food was spot on and the staff more than helpful, would highly recommend it.

Beautiful surroundings, amazing food and friendly staff. What more could you ask for. I’d highly recommended the Duck main course, it’s to die for.

Ate lunch, dinner and breakfast, all excellent. The room was comfortable and stylish and our stay was topped off with superb service.

A really nice pub and restaurant in a beautiful village. The good and service were exceptional. I had Devon crabmeat souffle which was delicious. Will definitely be coming again soon.

The food is amazing. The staff top notch! Not got a 5 as we booked for our wedding anniversary and asked for a "cosy" table. The reservation was not written down. We were quizzed about when we rang and what time..then sat in between two tables and across from a family of 5 with small crying children. The smallest space in the whole place, coffee table size. We did ask to move and the staff obliged. Many regulars, treat as such, which is lovely, but if you want more regulars...treat them all the same. It showed. We shall return as the waiting staff and the lovely front of house manager are spot on, they are attentive and personal and all have a smile and genuinely want you to enjoy your evening!

We booked for a family of 5 yesterday following a recommendation. We were one of the first to arrive and chose our seats. Food was lovely, staff were nice. What I am astonished at is that we were asked to move to a different table, not because it was already reserved but because 'regulars' prefer to sit at the table we had been sat at for an hour! I asked if they were joking but apparently not! Moving a family of 5, including a 3 year old & heavily pregnant lady in favour of a family who may or may not turn up (they did by the way, stayed for half the time that we were there!) is terrible. How would that make you feel?? Spent £140. We do every time we go out (every Sunday) but this will not be one of OUR regulars!
