About The Mandela Community Centre

The Mandela Community Enterprise and Human Rights Education Centre (MCEHREC) formerly Mandela Youth & Community Centre, is now managed by SpectrumD.

The Mandela Community Centre Description

SpectrumD focuses on providing educational, human rights and political awareness and community building /cohesion programmes for Derby and Derbyshire Communities, especially for those from low income areas, those marginalised in mainstream provision and those affected by Hate Crime and discrimination.

It is our goal to create a common community space, cohesion building events and activities, a citizenship, health, community and human rights education programme, which will have a direct and positive effect on relations between different groups, hate crime, bullying and discrimination and help to build a community identity based on respect for human rights and increased understanding of different members of society.

SpectrumD is currently working with a number of groups to provide as wide a range of services as possible from the Center.

Ozbox - Free Boxing scheme for young people in Derby and Derbyshire aged 11-19 years. A new Group has been developed at the MCEHREC for 8-11 years.

Roma Community Care - Roma Advocacy Group, Roma youth services and aiding the integration of the Roma community into Derby.

Impact Derby - Steering youth away from gang culture through mentioning, employment, training, volunteering and work placement.

Voxfemme - Providing positive spaces for women, bringing together all women to make change on women's issues and encourage women to be heard and make change.

We have a range of ongoing activities, events and training for all, we take pride in being a centre that doesn't cater to one community but to all equally.
Come and see us, email or call us for more information on the programme of activities we have available.

Joining with Rebel Women's Choir in preparation for the March on Saturday. The March will start outside Derby Women Centre, 4 Leopold Street, DE1 2HE and into town at 5.30pm. We need everyone to join us - whether online (as keyboard warriors by sharing these hashtags: , #HearMeToo, #EndVAWC #16DaysDerby #SayEnough) or in person raise the profile of Gender Based Violence... Lets end the scourge of GBV in our city, our county, our country our world!

I went to the Mandela centre during my second week of ncs and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed my trip there. It really opened my eyes to the dangers of hate crime and how it can happen to anyone anywhere. The visit was very resourceful and the staff were all incredibly helpful and kind. My group enjoyed the trip there so much and agreed with what the charity stands for and promotes so much that we have all decided to raise money for it as part of our community action project for two weeks. We will be raising money round belper so if you see us please donate.

I haven't been for sometime now but everytime I do go... there are new things happening. New communities visiting and being supported. A wonderful community hub right on our doorstep. A Gem ☆☆☆
