The Peacock

Was in Nottingham (from Bristol) and found The Peacock through Happy Cow app. Wow, what a find. Firstly it's a really quaint, old fashioned, unpretentious, real pub. Decor and ornaments look untouched for years but that all adds to its charm.

Onto the food, kids had lasagne and chips which they loved and scoffed in record time. My wife had the asparagus, pea and caramelised onion pie with mustard mash and gravy, good tasty food 'nice stuff'.

I had the stuffed portobello burger with chips which again was amazing.

Followed by sticky toffee pudding which was awesome.

Service was lovely and friendly, fantastic pub.

It might be a 2.5/3 hour drive from Bristol but we'll find a way to come back!!!

Loved it, loved it, loved it!!

It's fantastic to visit somewhere that I can choose any food option, and also any drink option too (although I did spot Baileys on the shelf). It's brilliant to see that in our times of generic eateries, this place is so refreshing, not having to support somewhere that builds its profits on animal cruelty. And they play real records too! It's also in a lovely old building which gives you a chance to imagine what the patrons were like a hundred or so years ago! Long may it remain open!

Had the vegan beef wellington for lunch with all the trimmings. It was delicious! Would highly recommend. Will come again and try the fish n chips!

Food was so good, massive portions loved it. Went into a vegan food coma afterwards

First time here last night, and it was really good. Great food, lots of choice, drinks were cheap (we had fruit juices). Will definitely be going again.

User

Ate everything on the menu and it was amazing. Okay service, good food, worth it for the price

User

The food is great! I had the Mediterranean tart and my husband had the all day breakfast. For dessert, we both had banana, cinnamon and biscoff cake...which was delicious! We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu. The pub decor is rather shabby and although that is not really a problem, I did feel that the whole place could have been a lot cleaner...especially the toilets!

User

So nice to have full vegan menu, the food was delicious. Took my dad who is a non- vegan and he enjoyed his vegan steak . The portion sizes are so generous and so filling! The lady behind was bar who served us was so friendly. The food did not take long to arrive after ordering either- about 10mins, which is brill!

Find vegan food in pubs can be very challenging, and finding an all vegan pub was god-sent. The menu was a great size and the food was incredible. Completely refreshing to eat food that isn't just salad at a restaurant. I went in today with a non vegan friend of mine, and he really loved the food as well. Sure, there were a few things about the establishment that weren't great- like the cleanliness- but the atmosphere was great, the pictures, decorations, tiles, wall paper, etc was all very beautiful. The food spoke enough for itself that I would happily go again. Its a great price for a great vegan fix. Thanks for existing.

Went in here late afternoon just for a drink and to visit this vegan pub. Didn't have any food so I can't comment, but the staff behind the bar weren't particularly friendly and the atmosphere of the pub was very strange! Couldn't wait to get out tbh. I know the pub is supposed to be quirky, but it just seems really odd and unfriendly. Won't be returning in a hurry. Disappointed.

User

We were very excited to visit this pub for it's fully vegan menu, and travelled an hour specifically for this.

We were the first patrons in the pub, and one of the first to place a food order. There weren't loads of people in (maybe 4-5 groups) but we still waited just over an hour for food, with a hungry and fractious 2 and 4 year old. When the food arrived, it was okay. Not great. The adults had Wellington dinners and the kids had battered sausage dinners. I was looking forward to lots of fresh veg and crispy roasties, but we only got a bit of greens and some swede and parsnip(?) mash, with potato wedges.

We have several vegan pubs and eateries where we're from, so we've got a lot to compare it to, and sadly this falls quite comfortably in the average range.

The pub itself is aesthetically pleasing, we enjoyed the records and drinks, and the woman behind the bar was friendly. The manager didn't seem very friendly though, as others have mentioned. I probably wouldn't make it a point to revisit if we were in the area again, and another pub up the road advertised vegan and gluten-free dishes which I'd maybe try instead.

The homeless crack heads drinking their own cans is a highlight right now! Bar staff don't seem bothered so party on!

User

The Peacock is great for a taste of real ales and listen to music on vinyl, played from decks on the bar.

Why do Vegans need to misrepresent their food descriptions, I.e. in the Peacock, Fish & Chips with mushy peas should be fried tofu wrapped in seaweed. Not being Vegans we ordered two "Fish & Chips", never again the taste and texture is awful. It took so long to arrive we got 50% discount.

I'm not going to recommend this place for food and from some of the Vegans neither will they.

User

I came to this score over an average on scores for wait times, customer service and food quality;

Wait time 1: Just over 1 and a half hours wait and there were not a lot of people in eating.

Customer service 3: Friendly but totally underestimating on how much longer we had to wait, to be told 10 minutes to then wait an additional 30 is wrong, please just tell me how much longer realistically.

Food quality 5: The food could not be faulted we had the "ribwich" and a mushroom and tofu sandwich. Really nice as someone only recently trying vegan food it was a pleasant surprise.

I'm a bit gutted after my flying visit today.

I was needing a quick drink and thought after the wonderful Dice Cup didn't have any milkshakes available, that I would go to the Peacock for a coke.

I was shocked to be charged a whopping £3.40 for a pint of coke, when I could have gotten the same from The Dice Cup for £2!

I don't understand how anyone can justify this price, and really, it's not a realistic price to be charging.

Considering I can get a full vegan breakfast with a cup of tea at The Avenue Cafe for £4.50 or even a meal deal at Boots with a naked smoothie, a sandwich, and a snack for £3.50, spending 10p less on just coke is a complete rip off.

Considering I once had to wait 40 mins for a sausage roll, only to be told after 30 mins that they don't have vork pies, and the older gentleman who was serving me completely ignored me for most of that time, I really don't think I'm going to visit again.

I keep trying to support this business, as a fully vegan kitchen in a traditional pub is wonderful, but who can justify the cost of a coke or 40 mins wait for something that was already pre-made as they get it from another supplier?!

Let's put this £3.40 into another perspective - a lot of people earn £7.50 an hour. To buy a coke at this place, they need to work 30 mins to earn enough money.

Who would trade 30 mins of their life working for a pint of coke?

Who would wait 40 mins for a sausage roll, if they knew they would have to?

Especially when the Dice Cup and the Natural store just up the road will serve these to you pretty much instantly and for a much more reasonable price.

Please sort it out. We don't want to lose a vegan pub, but we won't be taken for a ride either.

First time my friend adn I visited the food was great as well as the service. The last couple of times we've bene in there we've not really been very happy sadly.

Today we were told there would be a half an hour wait on food which we risked and it ended up taking 50 mins.

When the food arrived the wedges were plain not the garlic and herb ones on the menu. We mentioned it just to make a point but the guy jsut said sorry like he didn't give a toss about it.

The food is a good standard but the staff are not ever so friendly and if there is more than one table in front of you there is no way you're getting served quickly. It's a shame because it started out so well.

User

Awful. So gutted as id made a special journey to visit the all vegan pub! We were told on arrival that the menu wasn't on- On Sundays you can only have a roast (wellington or sausages) ok fair enough. We chose the wellington. We waited an hour for our food in a not-very-busy place. It finally arrived and was so disappointing. Overcooked veg (ive not had brocolli or peas so buggered since primary school) overpowering mustard mash, poor roasties and the wellington tasted like one of 'holland and barretts' poorer efforts. Pastry was both overdone and undercooked and the filling was vinegary and stodgy. I ordered some cake to go (by this point we'd run over our parking) hoping cake would save the day, but that was also disappointing. Not enough icing or filling and a rubbery dry sponge. Crap. I go out to eat as a treat, to have great food I couldn't make myself. Not only could i have done better, i could have done it quicker, and in a lot more comfort. We shan't be returning. Poor show

Why on gods earth is a city centre pub selling roller cola. I had a perfectly good double vodka ruined by you putting roller cola in it . I asked for vodka and coke so under the trades description code you should tell customers that you don't have coke but you are willing to ruin my drink by putting roller cola in it

User

Food was lovely , unfortunately p*ss poor service.

We travelled an hour here especially; arrived at 12 (when it was due to open) and the doors were shut still, so we waited for 10 mins and then rang them to ask what was happening. They said they were running behind with ‘cleaning’ and wouldn’t be open till half past

Once we were in, the gentleman who appeared to be the manager was quite rude and abrupt, didn’t want to talk to customers. Once he took our order he then went and sat at a table with his coffee reading his papers! Not what you’d expect.

The window sills had black dirt, and the chairs were horribly stained with the wallpaper cracking off! A bit of renovation would help a lot.

We sat at our table, where it looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned, covered in sticky stuff and dirt (shocking considering we were the first in there) The floors didn’t appear to have been hoovered either let alone cleaned, which was odd considering there was a hoover left out! I then went to the toilets where there was rubbish built up behind the bin where it’s just cleaned around, although probably not for some time by the dirt on the floors and walls.

All this was a real shame as the food, 100% vegan, was lovely and the man on the bar was lovely also. Disappointed in the older gentleman (possible manager) and the state of the place! Won’t be returning! Oh and my partners plate with either dirty or stained badly (very gross) and the place was freezing with no atmosphere at all.
