Would highly recommend you pay a visit or stay for a while. Very friendly place. excellent ciders & real ales & more. A beautiful beer garden & views with a play park at the side. Haven't had any food yet, but looking at what other folks have ordered, it looks delish! Go find out for yourself - You won't be disappointed

User

Wonderful atmosphere and the new management are very helpful and friendly they certainly know how to look after real ale, the refit is very nice too - certainly not overdone it as has happened in many pubs over the years. Very child and dog friendly with the field next door which includes a large enclosed children's play area. We only pop in whenever in the area as we live a few miles away which is a shame.

User

We came yesterday had the pizzas. Would highly recommend. And you must try the onion rings best ever had. We will definitely be back .

User

Up this way for a long weekend and called to book a table for food. Was told there was a theme night serving Soul Food for £15 a head. So glad we decided to try it. Amazing food (perhaps a bit too much!), really friendly staff, can't fault it. If we were local, you'd definitely have our business. Keep up the great work!

User

This is by far thee best pub we have attended this year. Friendly welcoming staff, absolutely lovely decor, fine ales n ciders, failed to try the whiskeys yet but that will be my next visit. The food was absolutely amazing especially the Sunday lunch. Everything was exceptional definitely a 5🌟establishment. Plus you can take your dog in to so if you fancy a short walk or long :) then pop in to warm yourselfs up n why not treat yourself to a pint n some food.

User

This is a great pub. We booked Sunday lunch for eight people today to celebrate my brother in law's birthday. Everything was wonderful. Great selection of beers and cinders on draft, delicious food and friendly service. We had a great time. Thanks guys!

User

User

The nicest Sunday roast only thing I would change is the gravy as a little bit strong but other than that amazing x

User

The Sunday dinner was lovely and a great choice of drinks; real ale, cider and gin...

And there is even beer for the pooches...

User

Really like the new look poet ... looking forward to the food if it's anything like the beer it will be fantastic xx

User

Popped in for a quick drink after taking kids to the park next door.

Ended up staying for a Sunday roast after seeing the quality of food at the table next to ours.

Absolutely gorgeous food and the staff are really nice.

Bonus was finding out it's dog friendly ❤️

Will be my new local that's for sure!

User

Popped in for a drink both the dog and us covered in mud after a trot up to the castle and was welcomed with open arms. Lovely staff. Will definitely go back to eat soon!

Just been to the Greek night at the Poets. Brilliant night with lovely food, really good value. Looking forward to more of these international nights and would deffo recommend them. Well done to everyone involved. Xx

User

I love this pub! The beer garden is so relaxing, the food is delicious staff is just lovely, and Archie is gorgeous! Even though we got in around 5:30 on Sunday, we were still able to get a Sunday Roast dinner and it was oh so delicious.

User

I love the poet and castle the staff are amazing and the new couple running it are doing an amazing job! I recently had my wedding reception there and it was incredible. Liam and lyndsey couldn't do enough to help me! The newly decorated upstairs function room was perfect, the food was incredible and the chef did a great job having to work around a couple of difficult food allergies! They made my special day so perfect and I can't recommend the place enough!

User

I love the poet and castle it's my favourite local bar that me and my mate like to go to. The refurb is nice and the staff are top notch friendly. I always feel at home when I'm there :)

User

Have been a couple of times since it opened after refurbishment and have enjoyed every visit. Went yesterday with our 8 year old for Sunday lunch and was beautiful, he's a fussy eater sometimes but cleared his plate and gave it an 11/10 (so has to be special!!) Will be back to try the pizza menu soon.

Lovely decor, great staff, beer garden is stunning and has benefit of the park and field next to it.

Can't recommend this place enough whether you go as a couple, with family or night out with friends it's a lovely pub.

User

Had dinner for the first time here! And it was lovely! Couldn’t beat the quality of food for the price! Will definitely be back

User

Great to finally have a decent pub again. Liam and Lyndsey are doing a cracking job and are even better people who are willing to communicate and spend time with all customers. Food is brilliant and a great selection of beers and ciders are available along with a great quiz night as entertainment.

User

Great selection of beer, dogs allowed in a free live music and the odd vegan dish. What more can one want.

User

Great range of real ales. Friendly staff and customers. Lovely view from the beer garden. And I hear they've got live music again!

User

Great food and always a lovely welcoming atmosphere with a great drinks selection. Staff are always very polite and helpful. The fact people are allowed to bring their cute dogs in to the pub/non dining section makes it even better

User

Good venue, very welcoming and friendly staff. Great food and good selection of ales. And great value to boot - what more could you ask.

User

Fabulous fish and chips - tartare sauce tasted homemade, would have been perfect if the mushy peas had been homemade as well, great atmosphere and really friendly staff with great service.

User

Excellent food & drink, a nice friendly atmosphere and a great beer garden to boot (as experienced during a beer festival in the Summer!). From the outside the pub looks great and is nicely lit up during the evening. Cheers!

User

Excellent food & ale but most importantly, excellent staff and service

User

Excellent Good, reasonably priced and big portions! Will be back!

User

Came in to see what the refurbishment looked like and I love it, the food is second to none (especially the pizza). Always made to feel welcome. I can't recommend you enough xx

User

Came here yesterday, not been in for a while and was surprised by a lovely refurb, mush better pricing and was offered a slice of home made pizza which is about to go on sale, absolutely amazing. The beer is great too, brilliant real ales and the landlord and landlady are very warm and welcoming. I've been coming here for years on and off and this is by far the best state the pub has ever been in all round. Keep up the good work.

User

Brilliant place....lovely food and drinks...and great staff. Had a fantastic gin tasting evening there last night....highly recommended.

User

Brilliant night great pub great food too

User

Been a few times now and it just keeps getting better. Went for the taste of the world South African food night 3 words lekker lekker lekker.

User

As we live locally we have tried to support the Poet during the changes of the last couple of years. We we're nervous of this latest takeover but very quickly appreciated the improvements Liam and Lindsey have made, their hard work and positive attitude is infectious! The place is bright, clean and busy! We're enjoying the beer (even me and I'm a lager drinker) the food is top quality and affordable. The atmosphere this bank holiday Sunday was fantastic! traditional Sunday roasts, quizzes and games that brought everyone in. We believe things will only get better and better and we're delighted! Best Wishes ~ Diane & Andrew Paget 😊

User

Amazing Sunday roast and very friendly and helpful staff

User

A lovely, cosy pub with friendly staff, gorgeous food and a great choice of drinks. Highly recommend.

User

Lovely outside area and great that you put on a beer festival which everyone seemed to be enjoying. I had some cheesy chips and my partner had a foot long dog from Liam's Burger Shack and the food was delicious!

The only downside was the entertainment. The couple that were singing and playing guitar & sax were bloody awful and it was so loud you could only sit and smile with no chance of having a conversation.

User
