Wow....seems so long since i posted any new work. Battling being studioless for the next 2 weeks and school hols. But exciting news to follow re: new studio 😀 So, just completed this beautiful client commission piece....before pics included so that you can see the work involved in restoring the oak. Hand Chalked in AS Graphite with clear and black wax and scoops of liberon oak wax on the exposed wood. Love it 😍

Morning to you all. I've had many friends contact me recently saying they don't see my posts any more. I love getting your daily support, whether it's liking the photos, your wonderful comments, inspiring you to paint yourself or the many fab orders of work. There wouldn't be a business without you guys and FBook has been a wonderful platform. The new Facebook algorithm(!!) is hitting business pages hard, restricti...ng our distribtion.
Out of 2.5k followers my posts now only reach around 3%, and without comments they go no further.

Fab client commission of their tired pine table and 4 chairs. Hand made bench supplied and all hand-chalked in a mixed selection of Annie Sloan Duck Egg and Old White mixes to create a fresh modern cottage feel. The Orange shiny top was hand sanded and given a mellow finish in Liberon UK medium oak wax. Do contact to commission your very own pieces and feel free to 'share' with family and friends 😃

...And now for something completely different. Had massive fun planning, designing and constructing this fabulous client commissioned desk. Hand built from reclaimed scaffold boards which have been biscuit jointed and glued and sanded back through the grades to give a glass smooth finish. The boards were then stained with Liberon Dark Oak palette wood dye and sealed with 3 coats of dark oak wax. The desk top has been teamed with crisp modern Ikea drawers to create a fused balance between modern and industrial. Really pleased with it and client is thrilled.

Clean and crisp transformation of clients £10 dark mahogony carboot find. AS Old White and gold gilding wax 😀

Just completed today. Stunning kitchen transformation including door repairs. A lovely mix of Annie Sloan Duck Egg and Old White to draw out the green tones. All sealed with 3 coats of clear wax. Hope you all agree that it looks fabulous. Now taking commission orders for kitchens and furniture for late June/July. Do get in touch to discuss your own projects 😀

Matt is so skilled at what he does and has a wonderful eye for detail and style. I have both bought a new piece of furniture for my office (after I fell in love with it when photographing some of Matt's pieces) and had a couple of my own pieces of furniture restored and up-cycled and I am so delighted with the results. The Ugly Duckling just some up Matt's business perfectly, as he has transformed my less than perfect furniture into something quite stunning! Would highly recommend!

I have had several pieces of very nice furniture from Ugly Duckling & also two bedside tables & a TV table refurbished to order. Really like the colours & finish. Next item to be given the treatment is a wood & rattan easy chair.

I cannot recommend The Ugly Duckling Co enough. I handed over an overly loved and quite trashed vintage oak children's chair that had formerly been my father's (and his siblings), my cousins' and mine (and my siblings!) - now it was time to be handed to my children to enjoy.



The Ugly Duckling Co didn't just lovingly and beautifully restore the chair with immaculate skill, but there was empathy and sympathy to the chair's history, little imperfections (caused by dad with his saw whilst using the chair as a workbench as a child) were lovingly waxed and well cared for and became a feature of the chair.



The wood was beautifully restored and is the softest wood I have ever touched - it's just stunning.



I'd whole heartedly recommend anyone to dig out their tatty old furniture that has had generations of love and give it 'new wings' with the Ugly Duckling Co - it's a truly great feeling to restore and behold.

After moving in to our first period property I wanted to furnish our new home with items that were timeless and would last forever. This was when I discovered The Ugly Duckling Co; the attention to detail, time and quality of workmanship used to restore each carefully selected item is clear to see and very hard to find these days especially at such affordable prices.



So far we have purchased a beautiful hand painted cabinet and a solid oak dining table with striking ornate hand painted legs. Both pieces were hand delivered and manoeuvred in to place with the greatest of care and we have had no end of compliments on them from friends and family visiting our new home.



I have also commissioned The Ugly Duckling Co to restore an old blanket chest passed down to me by my late grandmother and have enjoyed receiving regular progress updates and sample pictures. I just can't wait to see the finished result and what other exciting pieces The Ugly Duckling Co will have on offer.
