The University Of Derby Sports Centre Description

Opened September 2015 our superb Sports Centre represents a £10. 8 million investment by the University of Derby, a facility second to none. The Centre is operated by Nuffield Health and membership includes not just the superb new gym, kitted out with state-of-the-art Matrix equipment, but a terrific range of fitness classes, with something to suit everyone.

Based at the University of Derby's Kedleston Road site, the gym not only provides an array of exciting equipment to meet the various needs of members, but also offers the opportunity for participation in a variety of different exercise classes throughout the week.

Opening between the hours of 6. 30am - 10: 00pm through the week and 9: 00am - 5: 00pm at weekends, there is opportunity for even the busiest of people to fit in either a workout in the gym or a quick blast in one of the exercise classes.

🍒 DOES FRUIT AND VEG IMPACT PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING? .
Blanchflower et al. (2012) took a look at this question. .
... Firstly, it’s worth noting that although the authors tried to correct for confounders, they rightly conclude that results should be viewed as ‘at best only suggestive of any causal relationship’. (Blanchflower et al., 2012) .
With this in mind, here’s some of the key findings: .
🍏 The article seems to utilise studies where the lower end of fruit and veg intake was just 1 or 2 portions a day, with the high end bracket being 8+ portions of fruit and veg per day. .
🍊 The authors find ‘evidence for the existence of a positive association between well-being and fruit-and-vegetable consumption’ .
🍉 To put this correlation into perspective, they describe how the difference on a life satisfaction scale between being unemployed to employed is classed as ‘huge’. When comparing small and large levels of fruit and vegetable consumption, some of the estimated effects are larger than this. .
🍇 The study ‘provides evidence of a positive association with psychological well-being.’ This ‘often reaches a peak at or above 5 portions a day’ and often at the higher end of this: ‘approximately 7-8 portions of fruit and veg per day.’ .

🔵 CONCLUSIONS 🔵 . ✅ There appears to be a positive correlation between fruit and veg intake and psychological well being. .
✅ As fruit and veg intake increases, well-being seems to increase. .
✅ According to the NHS, in the context of general health, 5/day is seen as achievable and is the reason it was chosen by public health campaigners. .
✅ However, Public Health England suggest that consuming more than 5/day may be desirable, although it can create an ‘unrealistic expectation’ for some. .
🔵 TAKE HOME MESSAGE 🔵 . 👉 IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE WELL-BEING AND GENERAL HEALTH, CONSUMING FRUIT AND VEG AT A MINIMUM OF 5/ DAY IS WISE. .
👉 CONSUMING 8+/ DAY MAY PROVIDE SUPERIOR BENEFITS IN BOTH MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. .
