We had been recommended the location by friends and we booked a table for this Evening.

Our table was in a prime position and the food choice was very wide. The Wednesday Wellington special was great.our starters and main course were served on a timely basis and the quantity was perfect. Friendly staff were informative and polite. Can't comment on the puds as we gave them a miss but they looked good.

User

This morning my friend and I had breakfast here. We both opted for the 'small breakfast'. This consisted of 3 pieces of toast, two sausages, scrambled eggs and beans (although I swapped these for mushrooms). The breakfast was delicious, food items were of good quality and cooked to perfection. We asked for the bacon to be crispy and it was - without being burnt.

Lovely way to start the day

User

Themed evenings are great! We tried lots of Champagnes and enjoyed a lovely meal in a beautiful setting. The proprietor was a marvellous and welcoming host. Have booked for the German 'Oktoberfest' meal.

User

The staff were lovely and friendly, the food was excellent and the ales were great x

User

My wife organised my 65th surprise birthday meal there, the service and food were topnotch staff were friendly and well organised. There was 18 people and everyone enjoyed the meal.

User

Lovely place for a meal or just a drink with friendly staff

User

Great meal here. As a coeliac eating out can be a pain but it was very clear from the menu what was gluten free and the staff very helpful. Felt it was very reasonably priced and the steak was delicious.. thank you.

User

Food was to die for, loved all three courses. The staff were great, lovely welcome and first class service. The pub is beautiful and the seat we had up stairs at the window was fantastic, highly recommend eating here

User

Fabulous food and really kind and thoughtful staff in a good old traditional pub. Very good indeed!

User

Excellent place to eat. A good selection of food, reasonable price and very pleased staff

User

Bloody lovely pub, we went into Lincoln to look round the square and cathedral and needed a pub that served food but also were dog friendly. If you have a dog you must sit in the front bar which was comfortable and inviting. The food is absolutely lovely, we chose a starter and then the sirloin roast with all the trimmings Well worth a visit

User

Attended hen do there. Great evening which involved wine tasting. Lovely staff really great dinner. Nut Roast Wellington, well recommended. Will definitely go again for meal out

User

We went for lunch yesterday as we had our small wedding breakfast there a year ago. Lovely little pub. They couldn’t do enough for us on our wedding day. Lovely to spend some time there on our anniversary 😀

User

We are there as a group of 12 on a busy Saturday night. The service was very good and we had a good time.

I just found the food somewhat disappointing. I ordered the Scallop and Gnocchi Gratin for my starter. At £8.50 it was expensive, but I expect to pay a premium for scallops. However, they were somewhat non-existent with the attempt to make up the content with gnocchi. The scallop that was there was chopped into small bits and any delicacy was lost in the gratin.

For the main course I chose the mackerel with potato and horseradish salad. The mackerel seemed overdone and there was no hint of horseradish with the potato.

Desert was sticky toffee pudding which was very nice, although my wife chose the marquise and found it very unpleasant.

The Wig is an odd place. It's a stalwart of Steep Hill, but realistically both the interior and the menu need updating. The restaurant prides itself on its British menu, but that seems to translate into something somewhat uninspiring. I was surprised that they don't offer fillet steak on the main menu (there is a rump).

I would probably go again, but not in a hurry when there are more interesting places to try in the area.

User

My husband and I ate there last night. One waiter was rude and abrupt but the female waitress was exceptional. She was attentive and encouraging of our menu choices. The food was very good. The restaurant was overly busy. They had ran out of many menu options and other customers left. However, our food was lovely although it didn't all feel home made and many aspects felt shop bought (sorry if that's not the case). Wine was a little warm and had to ask for ice to chill it. There wasn't any real customer service skills in dealing with this issue.

Went back with a friend for breakfast and it was delicious and the staff were totally attentive. Very different from the team the night before. All in all very good. Evening meal 2 stars breakfast 4 stars so went for average score

User

Ate here twice in 2 days. If we hadn't had the specials I would have found it a bit overpriced for the food but specials prices reasonable. Just disappointed that frozen food was part of the deal, such as skinny chips, very tough Yorkshire puddings, shop bought meringue nests in the Eton Mess for example. Nice pink roast beef though. Service speed great (downstairs) on day one but slow upstairs on the second day. Staff friendly though.

User

Visited here after the lovely Bronze Pig.

£15 for two Irish coffees!

Dirty tables..Disappointing..could have wiped them down as they was only handful of people in..

User

Tasteless nut roast wellington and fish and chips swimming in grease and overdone. Fish and chips replaced with passable steak & chips but peppercorn sauce dire. Wouldn’t go again. In my opinion shouldn’t be in Michelin guide and rather tellingly lost AA rosette.

User

Four coffees cost £24.44p the side bar where we sat was wet and dripping, you dare not lean on it for fear of getting wet, I went to the bar and told one of the staff, he said he had recently wiped it down with a wet cloth but would sort it out, he eventually came over and threw three paper serviettes onto the bar where we sat for us to wipe up the mess?

Not a good service, arrogant, definately top London price but without class or service!

We will not be going back!
