The Handbook of Peri-operative Medicines is the first national guidance to professionals working in this area of medicine. Developed collaboratively by clinical pharmacy experts working in the area of Surgery, the handbook contains information on how medicines are to be managed in the peri-operative period, a time when a patient is nil by mouth and often experiences interruption of medication regimens that are important for the treatment of other non-surgical comorbidities. I...t contains information pertaining to the risks and benefits of omitting, changing and continuing therapy during this period, and where possible how those risks can be managed. The Handbook is an essential guide which will remove the need for individual local guidelines and ultimately reduce variations in patient care and improve outcomes for patients undergoing surgery. If you wish to order a printed and PDF copy of the Handbook (2nd edition) for £15 (including postage and packing to a UK address) please complete the online order form here:

Care home residents are amongst the most vulnerable older people in our society. A combination of multimorbidity and polypharmacy makes them particularly susceptible to adverse events related to the prescribing, dispensing, administration and monitoring of medicines.
Whether you work in hospital or primary care, if you are involved in the provision of medicines management to care home residents we have designed an event just for you!
The day will focus on the key role that pharmacy staff in both hospital and primary care settings can play in reducing potential harm to care home residents through ensuring optimal medicines management.
