Uncle Henry'S Description

Uncle Henry’s is part of a family farming business, run by the Ward family. We are farmers with a passion for home reared, local and great tasting produce.

The story behind the farm shop started with a family friend of the owners, Meryl and Steve, by the name of Henry Wright.

Henry used to live in the house behind the farm shop & cafe. You can see the house from the outside courtyard. The Wright family farmed our farm for over 100 years when the Wards took on the farm operation in 1991.

Even though the two families were unrelated, Meryl and Steve’s children used to ask “Can we visit Uncle Henry’s” when they wanted to play at Henry’s house.

The name stuck and the out of the family’s fondness for their family friend, came the title for the Ward’s new business, Uncle Henry’s Farm Shop, Butchery & Cafe.

The couple went on to convert the derelict 19th Century limestone buildings on the farmlands next to Henry’s house, into the shop, butchery and cafe in September 2006. Since then, conference facilities have been added and the business has developed to become an educational resource for local schools.

Steve and Meryl’s daughter, Emma, now manages Uncle Henry’s. Emma is the fifth generation to work in the family business. Steve runs the arable side of the business and Meryl looks after the pigs.

Our surrounding arable and pig farm is an integral part of Uncle Henry’s and provides our customers with a real ‘farm to fork’ experience.

Farming heritage combined with a love for great food, provenance and interest in the local community have come to create the Farm Shop, Butchery & Cafe you see today.

Emma and our friendly team would like to extend a warm welcome and we hope that you come and visit us soon!

Join McCallums for a free tasting of their fruit liqueurs
McCallums Liqueurs is a family business supported by a small, loyal team of enthusiastic staff. They first opened their home, Bank End Farm, to the public over 15 years ago to sell strawberries at the gate and in their ‘pick your own’ fields. Over the years, they have added many more varieties of fruit and a farm shop. Making gin liqueurs is a new and exciting venture. Their liqueurs are crafted by hand, each batch carefully and lovingly cared for to ensure quality and taste are as consistent as possible.
Free in store tasting at Uncle Henry's 11am until 3pm

The farm shop is absolutely beautiful .Stuffed with every kind of food you could expect.I went a bit over the top in spending but am so pleased with all I bought.Everything was exceptionally clean and tidy. The café was also very clean.I was a bit disappointed with the prices there. The cakes especially were very expensive. However the coffee was hot and very welcome

*Afternoon Tea*

It wasn’t ‘bad’... but I’ve had better.

The sandwich selection was nice overall but the ‘boiled vegetable’ sandwich was rather ‘interesting’!

The fact we were only given HALF a scone each was the let down to be honest. And it already had the jam spread on it! (Good job we wanted jam hey!)

For £14.95 you would expect a whole scone each surely like every other afternoon tea I have experienced.

To add to this.... it was inconsistent. A couple at the table next to us had a whole scone each... yet another table had half like us. It seems that it varies depending on who makes it in the kitchen...

It was tasty and varied overall and we have always enjoyed the other food that Uncle Henry’s provides, but we wouldn’t come here specifically for the afternoon tea again.

went today for the open day bit disappointed I can't see us visiting again the toilet situation was terrible my little girl had more than one accident as the ques we're so long the kids found the tractor ride boring no animals to see along the way mostly stalls not much else to do which was a shame as we drove nearly an hour to visit

User

Had a terrible experience. Went for high tea for £15 and it was a total rip off! Hard bread, small choices of food and the food hygiene included a hair in your sandwich. Nothing was labelled and it was served like a child's birthday party not £15 high tea. Will not be going back, even the furniture was poor, the function room had office like chairs in and the only drinks they provided were tap water or tea and coffee from a hot water dispenser. Considering the other tea rooms and what they offer this was poor, very poor. Definetly will not be returning!
