The Chef:
Salvatore Bartollota
Behind every truly great dish is a truly great chef and we believe that we have one of the greatest Italian chefs around today.
Salvatore Bartollota has been cooking for 34 years and he is still just as passionate as ever about the excellence of his food. He truly puts his heart into every dish.
His family background is littered with chefs and fine cuisine runs in his bloodline. As a child he remembers watching his mother cook and how enthusiastic she was towards the food that she made. The enthusiasm rubbed of on him and at 14 years old he started as a pot washer in a local Sicilian restaurant. He worked hard and progressed so that by age16 he had begun training as a chef.
Since then his career has been varied and prestigious. He trained under internationally renowned Jackie Bruno at the Michelin star Chamade Mare Extra Lusso, Sicily. Salvatore has been head chef at the 5 star hotel- Grand Hotel, Sicily. He has also worked as head chef at Reggina Elena Park Hotel, Rimini and Zagarella Restaurant, Sicily.
Since moving to the UK he has also worked as head chef for the San Carlo group at the Leicester, Birmingham and Manchester branches, before coming to Venezia.
At Venezia he has been able to create his own menu and put his own experience and style into the dishes that he creates for us. He has put lots of time and effort to take the menu away from the common commercial Italian cooking and focus on traditional Italian cuisine, using the very freshest ingredients. He is just as skilled and puts as much work into his desserts as he does with his savoury food. All of our desserts are made in house and are an experience to themselves.
He believes that passion makes great food and if you taste any one of his dishes you will see that he is right.

The fillet steaks at Venezia are beautifully tender and cooked to perfection. I also love their pasta and pizza's. Great food and lovely ambience all set in the beautiful village of Upper Saxondale.

I have lived in Nottinghamshire for 6 years and been thoroughly disappointed in the available Italian food until NOW...!! We went for a meal last night and the quality of the food and wine was outstanding! You even have my favourite wine Brunello! :) thank you so much and keep it up, the portions were generous, the quality was very high and all your staff were welcoming and attentive.. just excellent!

Highly recommend this place. We arrived around 4ish for a late lunch to find we had the whole restaurant to ourselves (just how we like it) The staff was very attentive without imposing on us & the food was quality & generous portions. The menu choice is fab & the atmosphere inside is lovely with a open fire & chilled music. I will definitely be coming here again to sample more of the delicious food on offer.

Although I will admit that I'm not really an Italian food fan, my wife is the complete opposite and loves pasta and the trimmings, so on her birthday (27 May 2015) we thought we would give Venezia a go. Firstly the restaurant setting and decor are beautiful and of a very high standard but I suppose its the eating experience that really makes the night, so it is without hesitation I would recommend this restaurant, the food & service were top notch and I have been won over to Italian food. This is my first restaurant review, mainly because I just cant be bothered to sit down and post one but it was after reading a critical review against this really impressive restaurant that I decided to make the effort and post an honest and balanced review.

After being recommended this beautiful place, my Hubby and myself decided to try for our belated Valentine's evening. We found the staff very attentive from the minute we entered the building. What a wonderful selection of food with very generous portions, the cocktail list was wonderful too. Would highly recommend and will look forward to our next visit
