Please remember to offer some water for thirsty hedgehogs during this weather! ūü¶Ēūüíß Any cats passing by will also be grateful for the water! ūüźą If you have bird baths in your garden, please make sure the water hasn't evaporated! ūüź¶ #wildlifeneedwatertoo #heatwave

"Not long" is too long.
It's not worth it.

Only a couple of days left now!

‚ėÄÔłŹ Tomorrow is forecast one of the hottest days ever on record (if not THE hottest day!) ‚ėÄÔłŹ
Keep you and your pets cool and hydrated!
Cooling methods:... ‚ĚĄ Paddling pools filled with cool water can be enjoyed by you and your pooch! ‚ĚĄ Spray bottles (set on the misting setting) with cool water can work well to spray over your pets (and yourself!) ‚ĚĄ Cooling coats ‚ĚĄ Cooling mats ‚ĚĄ Fans will help circulate air - top tip - a bowl of ice water in front of the fan will circulate cooler air! ‚ĚĄ Cool wet towels for your pets to lie on (do not cover your pet in wet towels - they may cool down at first but then will become hotter with towels on them! ‚ĚĄ Ice cubes in water bowls (and offer multiple water bowls around the house - to be refreshed regularly) ‚ĚĄ Frozen treats ‚ĚĄ Frozen water bottles for your pets to curl up against (works well for small furries) ‚ĚĄ Move any hutches to the shade ‚ĚĄ If it's cooler inside than outside, try and keep your pets indoors if possible
Does anyone have any more helpful tips to share?
Please all make sure you familiarise yourself with the clinical signs of heatstroke, and enjoy the sun safely ‚ėÄÔłŹ

Did you know that feeding your pet correctly and maintaining a 'lean' weight can help extend a dog's life by two years!! A hugely motivating fact to keep your pet lovely and lean! ‚≠ź
Don't forget that feeding guidelines are just that - A guideline! They need to be adjusted to the individual pet and reviewed regularly to ensure the correct amount is being fed. Pet owners may need to decrease the food in some circumstances, for example reducing the amount fed if overweight, after neutering or for those dogs that are a little more lazy in life and prone to weight gain! ūüźē
If you're unsure whether your pet is overweight or not, or would like some nutritional advice, please book in for a free of charge consultation with one of our super nurses ūüėä

That was one impressive storm last night! ‚ö° We hope your pets coped ok and weren't too stressed by it! ūüźą

One thing to keep in mind during this heat wave, is that with windows open, some opportunistic people may take this as an invitation to enter your home and steal your belongings - or pets! Indoor cats may also escape and get themselves lost.
Please make sure that your pets are microchipped and your contact information is up to date on the chip database.
Be vigilant and report any thefts to the police!

Sharing for those of you who have thunder fearing pets! We hope it's not too bad for them!! ūüĆ©
The best thing you can do is prepare, so perhaps leave your curtains closed if you are out, or take note of the time of expected storms and get someone to pop in on your pets to make sure they are ok. Consider plugging in pheromone or calming diffusers/sprays, and leaving the radio on to help drown out some of the noise. Hiding places are also important - especially for cats. It would be recommended to keep your cats indoors during the storm if possible.

This week is going to be a hot one! ‚ėÄÔłŹ
‚ö†ÔłŹ Please be on the look out for heat stroke in your pets, and remember that it is an emergency situation. If you suspect that your dog has heatstroke, please seek immediate veterinary attention ‚ö†ÔłŹ
Overweight pets, and breeds with short faces (eg Pugs, Frenchies, Bulldogs etc) are more likely to suffer heat stroke.
... Please be careful and enjoy the warm weather responsibly! (paddling pools are a great way of keeping dogs cool in your garden!)

It's forecast hot and sunny this week! Whether you like the sun or not, it is important to look after yourself as well as your pets!
Here's our top tips to keep your pets cool in the heat!
‚ėÄÔłŹ Why not give your pooch a pool to splash about in or regularly hose them down!... ‚ėÄÔłŹ Keep their water topped up ‚Äď try ice cubes in their bowl ‚ėÄÔłŹ Make sure there‚Äôs somewhere shady for your pet to hide out to avoid too much sun exposure ‚ėÄÔłŹ Never leave your dog in a car. Even with a window slightly open, just a few minutes alone can be fatal ‚ėÄÔłŹ Avoid long walks in hot weather and do not walk dogs during the heat of the day. When you do take your dog for a walk, take 2 water bottles - one for you and one for them too! ‚ėÄÔłŹ Minimise the risk of sunburn by keeping pets indoors on very hot days or popping on a little sunscreen - White and pale pets are most vulnerable and especially around fur-free areas, like noses and ears ‚ėÄÔłŹ Make sure any hutches have shade access and consider a frozen water bottle (wrapped in a towel) for rabbits to curl up against ‚ėÄÔłŹ There are items you can purchase now such as cooling coats, cool mats and freezable treats to also keep your pets cool! ‚ėÄÔłŹ If you're celebrating the sun and having a BBQ, be sure that your pets don't steal anything off the grill or burn themselves!
Make sure you look after yourselves too! Stay hydrated and don't forget to reapply suncream!
Enjoy the sun and stay safe! ‚ėÄÔłŹ

Keeping your kitties cool!

‚ėÄÔłŹ Pets need suncream too!! ‚ėÄÔłŹ
Protecting your pets from sun exposure is just as important as protecting yourself!
In cats and dogs that have white or light-coloured fur, their skin lacks the pigmentation that helps protect them from sun damage. But even if your pet has a thick, dark coat, their ears, nose and tummy can all be susceptible to sunburn ‚Äď particularly if they‚Äôre a light, pinkish colour.
... Sunburn prevention tips: ‚ėÄÔłŹ Try to keep your pets indoors during the hours of peak sun intensity where possible. ‚ėÄÔłŹ When outside or in your garden, provide a shaded place for them to shelter from the sun - cooling mats or coats can help keep them from overheating. ‚ėÄÔłŹ Apply pet-safe suncream or sunblock on areas of exposed skin, like the tips of the ears, nose, inside legs and belly. If you don't use a pet specific one, make sure that it is fragrance-free and does not contain zinc oxide, as this can be toxic to pets.
Our four-legged friends love to lie in the sun, so make sure they are protected ūüźąūüźē
