About Villiers Park Educational Trust

We are a national charity, empowering less-advantaged, bright young people to succeed and become leaders in their field, through unique programmes.

Villiers Park Educational Trust Description

There are two main strands to our work - 5-day subject specific residential courses, and the Scholars Programme. The latter is our flagship four-year support programme for students from lower income families, involving mentoring, masterclasses, residential courses, interview practise, school and family support. As well as these two things we run an advisory service for schools and post-16 educational establishments, which helps them to develop excellent classroom provision for all students.

This week Brunel University London published research that First Generation university students are inspiring younger siblings to realise their own potential. Our Scholar Gavin has a ten-year-old sister, who hears her brother talk about the amazing things he's doing through Villiers Park and his plans to go to uni. She's now much more focused at school, because she wants to be like him!

It's incredible to think that Gower College Swansea has been sending students to Villiers Park for almost THIRTY years! The young people reap so many benefits from the Inspiring Excellence courses that the five hour journey to Cambridge is totally worth it. In this article teacher Felicity Padley explains why it's a good thing ... and we hear from three teenagers who recently did our Forensic and Social Psychology course. www.villierspark.org.uk/…/a-teacher-exp lains-why-she-still-…

Finally, we have a video! Villiers Park showcases some of the activities our Swindon students got up to during Science Week 2019. Enjoy!

Let me introduce Sian! Like lots of A-level students, she's been thinking about university ... but also worrying about tuition fees and how debt will affect her. This is Sian's story about how, through the Fantastic Futures scheme in Swindon, which is funded by Study Higher, Villiers Park helped her and her family to understand how it all works. www.villierspark.org.uk/our-journal/tuiti on-fees

Is this the promotional photo for a new TV political drama? Could be! Actually, it's our Hastings and Bexhill Year 12 Scholars - and we absolutely love this photo! They were coming to the end of their politics residential where they'd developed their own political parties. This was their hustings at The Cambridge Union.

We were pleased to hear that University of Cambridge will offer 100 'clearing' places for less advantaged students. A great motivator for students to aim high, even if they don't initially get an offer from their first choice university. Interesting read in BBC Family & Education News with comment from Villiers Park. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-4745 8688#

We had a fantastic tour of BBC News: East of England in Cambridge. We went behind the scenes (the studio is not as big as it looks!) and found out about the interview process and what stories make the news. All part of the BBC’s 50:50 project to get equal numbers of men and women on our screens. Villiers Park is looking forward to contributing our brilliant women experts to talk about social mobility and equality in education. A great thing to do as we approach International Women’s Day

Just listened to a our Scholar Liam and his learning mentor Katrina being interviewed by presenter Lisa Shaw on BBC Newcastle - Radio for the North East Liam talks about what it's like to be gifted, the kind of pressure that can mean, and how Villiers Park has supported him. Listen again - from 21:00-41:1 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07004k 4

The family of the brilliant BBC Family & Education News journalist Mike Baker have written a wonderful article about how they've raised £60,000 for our charity. Mike was a trustee and his legacy lives on here in Cambridge. Read Chrissy's story here! https://www.villierspark.org.uk/…/fundr aising-the-chrissy-l…
