Already a record-breaking batsman for Leicestershire then Nottinghamshire, it looked like local hero James Taylor was set for a stellar career in Test Cricket, before the diagnosis of a rare heart condition forced him to retire. His autobiography, Cut Short, is a revealing memoir of the highs and lows of cricket at the highest levels of international competition, as well as at the county grounds, and coming to terms with his condition.
Recently appointed as an England selecto...r, James remains at the very heart of English Cricket, and he will be joining us at Waterstones Nottingham to sign copies of his book.
We advise early arrival to avoid disappointment as James' busy schedule as a commentator means he will have limited time with us on the day. If you are unable to come along, speak to a bookseller about getting a signed copy reserved for yourself!

"The years are recorded in rings inside the trunk of a tree, but how was time recorded in his own body? Time didn't spread out gradually, ring after ring, nor was it lined up neatly in a row; could it just be a disorderly pile, like the inside of a drawer no one ever bothers to straighten?" - The Last Children of Tokyo by Yoko Tawada

Many poets can make you cry, many more can make you laugh, but few can put you in the awkward position of having to do both at the same time. Henry's lithe verse can flex from madcap hilarity to razor-sharp poignancy in the space of a few beats.
He will be joining us on stage in the Sillitoe Room at Waterstones Nottingham to read a selection of poems from his two latest collections, The Department of Lost Wishes and This Phantom Breath.
Henry Normal is a screen-writer, film p...roducer and poet. As the MD of Baby Cow Productions, some of his most famous screen credits include The Royle Family, Red Dwarf and Philomena. The Nottingham-born writer also launched the Manchester Poetry Festival and the Nottingham Poetry Festival.
Illuminating any subject from science and cosmology to family, and introspective thoughts about life and death, his poems are often moving, poignant and hilarious.
Your ticket price is redeemable against a purchase of any of Henry's books on the night, please ask a bookseller for more information.

One of the true masters of British crime fiction, Peter Robinson returns to the Sillitoe Room at Waterstones Nottingham to talk about the 25th novel in his best-selling DCI Banks series.
Banks is caught between two cases that are, on first sight, unrelated. Firstly, he is called to the body of a university student, found in an abandoned car on the Yorkshire moors. The instant thinking is suicide, but how did she find her way to the middle of nowhere? Then, a short time later,... the well-dressed body of a man is spotted by hikers at the bottom of a gulley- broken, sprawled, nibbled at by wild animals. He might have just fallen in- but would he have been out walking without waterproof and boots? Hardly likely.
Slowly, Banks and his officers put together the stories behind both deaths. There is little to go on, but diligence and a bit of luck mean that one clue after another is uncovered.
Meanwhile, Annie's father has a new girlfriend, and she comes up with a shocking piece of information that alerts Banks to the return of an old enemy, who wounded both Alan and Annie deeply, physically and mentally. It is likely that he will stop at nothing to get what he wants now.
Peter will be signing books after the talk, don't miss your chance to meet a genre-defining crime writer, call now or click online to reserve your ticket! Tickets £3, available now!

We went to the Bruce Dickinson book signing today. I had contacted Waterstones a few weeks ago regarding my friend who was going with us. Being in remission from Leukemia, she couldn't be outside in the cold or standing close to people. They were totally understanding and arranged for her to wait inside in the warm and even provided her with a chair. Such caring and understanding people, by putting these small things in place, it meant my friend could attend and meet Bruce without worry. Thank you to Dan, Pete and Dave for looking after us, and to Will for arranging it all. You went above and beyond, great customer service.
