The 11 November marks the centenary of the end of the First World War. A poppy has been raised on to the Hindu Community Centre to commemorate the millions of Indians who gave their lives for the United Kingdom and our freedom.
We look forward to Remembering Together in the upcoming days and praying for all those affected by war.

A historic and memorable service was held at the Wellingborough Mandir on Wednesday 22nd August to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and avow the ties between the Armed Forces and the Hindu Community.
The Wellingborough District Hindu Association also became the first Mandir in the Country to sign the Armed Forces Covenant, and we welcomed the bus to commemorate the involvement of the Army of India in the First World War.

What is RAKSHA BANDHAN - PROTECTION
In today's scenario, the day has a different perspective. The occasion involves a pledge of life-time practice of moral, cultural and spiritual values. The values and the sentiments attached to the rituals of this festival are worth inculcating by the whole human race, the sentiments of harmony and peaceful coexistence. The festival of Raksha Bandhan assumes all forms of Raksha or protection, of righteousness and destroyer of all sin. The ritual of Rakhi tying has become so important that come what may, brothers and sisters try to visit each other place on this day to bring back the oneness of the family, binding the family together in an emotional bond of love.
"Raksha Bandhan, colloquially known as Rakhi, is an age-old Hindu festival that celebrates brotherhood and love. For the Hindus serving in the Armed Forces, the festival holds special significance as it symbolises the duty of the Armed Forces in protecting their society."
In broadening the concept, the festival also celebrates those values we know to be exemplified by our Emergency services personnel. People who step out each day, with the sole intent to serve and protect the lives of all citizens. This year, like every year before it, the work of our emergency services team stands out as beacons of hope for us all, for the good in our societies, and as role models for our generations to come and follow.
