Meet Our Specialist Orthodontist Dr Nela Basso.
Dr Nela J Basso has been working as a Specialist in Orthodontics in the UK since 2008 and has achieved registration on the specialist register with the GDC Her career in Dentistry started in 1983 after she completed her training as a Dental Technician at the State Dental Technical Professional Collage in Poland. Within a few years she started her Dentistry training at the Medical University, Division Dentistry in Poland. She ob...tained her DDS qualifications in 1993. During this time Nela developed an keen interest in Orthodontics and went on to pass the National Board in Orthodontics in 2002 in Poland. We welcomed her to our team at{my}dentist team in April 2016, working at West Bridgford Orthodontic Centre, after our respected long standing Orthodontist, Dr Anders Linder, returned to Sweden. In April 2017, she joined our team at Orthoworld in Nottingham Town Centre where she is continuing to provide excellent patient care with the NHS and offering Private Orthodontic treatment and works across both practices during the week. Dr Basso strives in putting patients’ needs first and feels there is nothing more rewarding then being able to give patients a smile they can be proud of. This is achieved by using removable and fixed appliances using techniques such as straight wire, Alexander Discipline and Nana’s methods. Nela is very passionate about keeping her clinical knowledge and practices up to date and willingly mentors and encourages other team members to do the same. She is currently mentoring our student Orthodontic Therapist. Whilst not in work Dr Basso enjoys travelling and has a special interest in sailing, skiing, swimming and horse riding

Removable appliances Your journey… What are removable appliances? Removable appliances have an acrylic base and stainless steel components to hold the appliance firmly onto the teeth. Movement of teeth is achieved by the stainless steel springs being distorted out of shape during activation by the dentist, so that as they move back to their original shape, they pull or push the misaligned teeth with them.

Your Fixed Brace Journey..... Fixed braces consist of square brackets attached to each tooth, with a wire running through them, which gradually moves your teeth into the correct position. The wire is held in place by small coloured loops called modules, or colours.
The length of treatment with fixed braces varies but is typically around 18 to 24 months.
... Unlike the twin block appliance, fixed braces are stuck to your teeth for the whole of your treatment. You should not try to remove them yourself, as you could damage your teeth and cause your treatment not to work.
After the brace is fitted, your teeth will be tender for a day or so, though this should soon wear off and you will quickly become used to it.
Your orthodontist may advise you to purchase certain oral care products, which we highly recommend, as it will ensure you have all you need to care for your teeth and braces throughout the treatment.
If any part of your appliance breaks it is important you give your practice a call for an in-between appointment because your treatment may well be delayed.
