We have had a couple of people this week call in to collect a prescription only to find that it isn't here. They've ordered in plenty of time and had confirmation that the surgery has processed their request but no prescription. Turns out they have downloaded and used commercial apps on their 'phones to order their prescription. Those apps have switched their nomination (note on your patient record about which pharmacy you want to use) to one of a number of online pharmacies.... We've managed to get the prescription back & dispense it within a few minutes but at the expense of some anxiety & frustration. Apps can be great. The NHS app - https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-app/ - is very useful and free and let's you choose your pharmacy. If you are using one of the others please check that the nomination is the one you really want. It should be easy to change if it isn't & we can help if you can't find how to do it

Changes #1 We are making some changes over the next few weeks. The first is to our drug storage drawers from the old slanting drawers with very dodgy runners & a tendency to fall out to nice shiny new drawers. We should be doing this over the weekend so if you need to come in on Saturday please bear with us as there will be some disruption to our operation (plus banging and crashing and probably more than a little swearing)

The change to the ordering process for Leicestershire surgeries is just 10 days away now. We think that the best way to make your requests after 1st July will be to use on-line services. And there is an NHS app which will allow you to order from your mobile phone. It's available from app stores and is identified by having just the NHS logo. However beware of apps & sites promoted by on-line and larger pharmacy chains. Their marketing is national and doesn't take in to account local restrictions. Since Leiecestershire surgeries won't take requests from pharmacies these apps won't work for you - and you won't necessarily know until your prescription fails to appear.

Quite a few of you will have received a message from Barrow surgery yesterday about changes to the way you request prescriptions. First a word about what this is NOT about. It's not about any breakdown in the relationship between Wymeswold Pharmacy and Barrow surgery. Our relationship has been developed over many years and remains strong. The change applies to all Leicestershire surgeries and all pharmacies. It results from bad practice from a number of pharmacies abusing the ...prescription order process and causing waste and unnecessary cost - something we have not been guilty of. Starting on June 30th, if your GP surgery is located in Leicestershire, you will no longer be able to order your prescription from us. Instead you will have to order on line, take your repeat slip in to the surgery or send it by post. The guidance being issued is that you should order your prescription 10 days before you would run out of medication. Please reassure any vulnerable relatives or friends that we will make sure that nobody goes without medication that they need. This change affects only Leicestershire surgeries - patients who use East Leake surgery are not affected at this time. The new process will take a little time to bed in and we will keep you posted about progress.

Lots of people in today who have not realised that there is a bank holiday either side of the weekend and that GP surgeries are now closed for four days. If you know anybody waiting for a prescription please remind them that their opportunity to collect is either before 6:30 today or between 9 and 12 on Saturday.

I know I reminded you about Easter & the need to order early. A bit of poor planning on my part was booking in a computer replacement today There will be a period - hopefully short - this morning when we will have no computer. This will slow things down a bit but we are open until 6.30 so we will catch up before the end of the day Thanks in advance for your patience

Easter is coming. We are closed Friday, open Saturday then closed Monday If you need your prescription for the weekend you need to call me Wednesday 17th at the latest

A couple of changes happening on Monday 1st April First - prescription charges go up to £9 for each item. This makes a pre-payment certificate even more attractive as the price of a PPC hasn't changed. If you have 12 items or more a year you are better off with a PCC Second - Gabapentin and Pregabalin become controlled drugs. If you have either of these medicines it means - you have to collect the prescription within 28 days of the prescription being written - you have to sig...n for the prescription and may have to provide identification - emergency supplies are not allowed - if you run out you need to get a prescription from a doctor before you can have any more

I knew medicines in the US could be expensive and that there have been some big increases in prices recently but this shocked me. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canad a-47491964 In the UK people with diabetes get their prescriptions free
