All Features Grate & Small Fireplaces

Love the fire and the back boiler, the "slow burning grate" is made by Sofono or Redfyre as is the back boiler. These are all but extinct nowadays but we do have a few spare grates and frets for these old standard fireplaces.

These were very common back in the day, made by Bell and Royal Venton and made of solid concrete

Day 2 of stripping: We thought this fire would be a quick restoration but what we thought was rust on the surface turns out to be 2 layers of horrible brown paint. To top it all off we have run out of paint stripper. The Carron Company logo has cleaned up a bit on the firebrick nicely though.

2 lovely fires picked up today, a 1917 Carron bedroom fire and a 1880 Barnard, Bishop & Barnard fireplace designed by Thomas Jeckyll.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvJc0atQ- 9s Stripping fireplaces by hand can take time but a heat gun and a chislel are not ideal tools. This fire really needs to be fully removed and stripped outside with paint stripper, gentle scaping and brushes. The heat gun will heat up the lead paint and release awful fumes plus the chistle is too sharp to use on cast iron and could damage it. The Carron "Camelonicos" (Fireplaces 18A & 18B) are finished at last. They are now for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
