Andrewsfield Aviation Description

Andrewsfield Aviation is a flying training organisation offering all the facilities needed to pursue this most exciting of activities. We have a friendly team of staff and first rate instructors. So If you want a Private Pilots Licence (PPL) or Comercial Pilots Licence (CPL) look no further.

As a licensed airfield, we are able to teach the disciplines necessary for use at a busy airport or private airfield as well as for visiting smaller strips.

We also have links with Cambridge and Southend for instrument training, essential for learning to fly in all weather conditions.

We offer a wide range of different courses from trial lessons to Flight Instructor Ratings and CPL training, including some exciting new courses for those looking for something different.

There is a comfortable clubhouse with a licensed bar and restaurant, fully equipped briefing rooms, pilot shop and offices.

The club is open 7 days a week, from 9. 00am during the summer and from 8. 30am during the winter.

PART-FCL Licence holder medical requirements
The CAA muddied the waters once again.
The ORS4 document from the CAA linked below describes an alleviation to UK PART-FCL licence holders (full PPL and LAPL) from holding a PART-MED medical when flying EASA aircraft in the UK.
... What this means is that you can fly an EASA aircraft on a Self Declaration medical on your PART-FCL (EASA) licence.
HOWEVER..... there are some caveats!
1. This only applies to EASA PART-FCL Licences issued BEFORE 8th April 2018. 2. You MUST have made a self-declaration Medical to the CAA. 3. This arrangement is ONLY valid in the UK. 4. This alleviation is only valid for VFR flights (meaning you cannot exercise your IMC or IR privileges) 5. You may NOT use this alleviation for commercial flights, cost share flights, introductory flights, or instructional flights 6. You must only exercise the privileges of Pilot-In-Command (‘PIC’) on SEP(Land) or TMG with a maximum certified take-off mass of 2000Kg or less, and are limited to carrying a maximum of 3 passengers, (i.e. never more than 4 persons on board the aircraft)
Note this does not include SEP(Sea). Note that this does not cover those of you on an old UKPPL or NPPL - you still must have a valid PART-FCL licence to fly an EASA aircraft after 8th April 2018.
So.. just remember that it's now not just a case of determining what licence you have, but also WHEN IT WAS ISSUED to be able to decide what you can and can't fly and on what medical!

FUN DAY GREAT DAY! If you've got pictures, videos or comments about our fun day yesterday (Sunday 2nd July 2017), please post them here! Loads of people enjoyed flour bombing, balloon bursting, and spot landings, and the "aerobatic challenge", including a hog roast and private members/families/friends mini air display. Don't forget Mrs Willson!

You saw it here first. The CAA have just issued a "SKYWAY CODE" booklet - an excellent guide to private flying rules, regulations and best practice. CAP1535 versions S (for Screen Reading) and P ( Printed Version) available.

FLYING FUN DAY - Sunday 2nd July 2017
This is going to be popular! You need to BOOK YOUR AIRCRAFT NOW to join in the FUN on this special day at Andrewsfield! Private Owners and Visitors welcome to join in!
Ring RIGHT NOW on 01371856744 before it’s too late.
... SPECIAL PROCEDURES will be in force on the day for ALL FLIGHTS. Special CAA permissions will be in place.
Here’s what you need to know for now. Full briefings will be given closer to the time. You should be able to achieve all of the items within one hour flight time. £10 entry per event below.
• FLOUR BOMBING You will have TWO flour bombs to try to hit the ground target. A BOMBER must release the flour bombs – not the pilot – so you’ll need to fly with a friend.
• SPOT LANDING You will have TWO attempts from a glide approach from a non-standard circuit to land your main wheels ON A LINE across the runway.
• BALLOON BURSTING You MUST have an instructor aboard for this, so make sure you book one! TWO attempts to try and burst helium balloons released from the ground with your aircraft!
• MINI AEROBATIC COMPETITION You must have either Pete Brand or Nigel Willson (aerobatic instructors) on board (book your slot with the club). There’s a set routine you’ll need to practice first probably before you do it viewable from the airfield in G-ECAD!
• MEMBERS PRIVATE AIR DISPLAY (with Hog Roast/BBQ) (Late afternoon/evening) Stay with us and watch a 90 year old local go for her first trial lesson, followed by full aerobatic displays by: Jungmann, Pitts and Yak52, all flown by Andrewsfield pilots

I arrived for my lst flying lesson for my 60th birthday dressed as 'squadron leader Watson'. The staff were delightful and joined in the laughter. The flying lesson was amazing, the instructor couldnt have been better. The man behind the canteen cooked lovely food and all in all the staff at andrews airfield made my day one to remember. I would recommend if you want a flying lesson to go straight to this airfield
