About Barking Riverside

One of the UK's largest new developments: over 10, 000 homes along 2km of Thames river frontage

Barking Riverside Description

Barking Riverside is a new development of 10, 800 homes and new town centre on the former Barking Power Station site.

The power station remained operational until the 1980’s when the last of the main turbine buildings were demolished. Two former power station buildings remain on site, but are derelict, along with substantial underground power infrastructure that will require removal, upgrading or diverting as part of the regeneration of the site.

The development is being driven forward by Barking Riverside Limited – which is a joint venture between the London & Quadrant New Homes and the Mayor of London. An Executive Board with Director-level representation from the partners sets policy, agrees development principles and a programme of works. Barking Riverside Ltd acting as strategic developer commissions works, manages, co-ordinates and controls the planning, remediation, infrastructure, releases plots for residential and commercial development and is working closely with London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, Transport for London, other Government agencies, statutory bodies and the local community.
