Spent 3 nights at Premier inn next door had one dinner and had breakfast there everyday. Very nice and clean. Good food. Staff, well one was great. Running around getting us and everyone else all we needed. Very polite but her boss who I thought must be a trainee spent her time trying to look busy, stirring beans and putting all the serving tonges the wrong way round. And when she greeted us never asked if we had been before or told us about the slow toaster which the lively waitress had done the two days before. Oh by the way boss lady it plastic handles don't get hot. They are designed for their job. Well done to catering staff and waitress. Send the boss back for more training.

Lovely dinner here again last night. Much better food since becoming a Beefeater. Great service too by our waitress Josie who was friendly & helpful

Another great breakfast this morning. We had a large table for 11 and were made to feel very welcome by the lovely, friendly staff. Hot buffet was fresh and very regularly topped up. Nothing is too much trouble. Couldn't fault it. Thanks.

We had a party of eight (8) and upon arrival were quickly shown to our table, the waitress quickly took our drinks order and allowed up to make our meal choices.

Our food arrived after about a 20-minute wait. All enjoyed our meals. The service was excellent.

My partner and i went for my birthday meal last night and we we were impressed. The service was smooth and timings were good , just had to wait over 20mins to get the bill. I had the gammon and it was lovely, really meaty and succulent, couldnt fault it . My partner had the surf and turf: it was good but his steak was done 'well' when he asked for 'medium rare' but he said it was pleasantly tasty still (the waitress did offer to swap it but he was ok). It was the starters that really impressed us: he had the lamb koftas and said they were cooked well with some naan, i had the chicken goujans and OMG the best ive ever had! The most moist and tasty ones ever! The menu is very beefy (its a beefeater) not much choice and not a place to go on a budget, but we will go again

I really can’t believe the majority of the reviews on here , we’ve been coming here for the last 6 years or so . Never had a problem with food, staff , management etc. We have always been made to feel very welcome and never felt the need to complain about anything. Keep up the good work all of you. Our waitress tonight Adele , couldn’t do enough for us to make our visit worthwhile yet again

First time we’ve been here since it became a Beefeater and we were all thoroughly impressed. The service was great and the menu was superb. Next time I’m in Essex, this place will definitely be in my list of places to eat!!

Went with three friends on Sunday evening. We were waiting some while before we were given a menu to pick from. When the meals were brought out two had ordered the steak, ribs and prawn meal. Both of them the ribs were overlooked so that the outside was burnt. One person had the veggie linguine which came with flat bread which she had to ask the waitress for. My friend said the meal was very tasty but it was such a very small portion. Two of us had a chicken meal which we both enjoyed. Usually the waiting staff pop back to check the meals are okay while you are eating but not on this occasion. As she cleared the plates we told her the ribs were burnt and the veggie meal was not worth the money. The manager came over apologised and said he would speak with the chef. We all had desserts which were lovely. When we received the bill the waitress said the cost of the desserts had been taken off as an apology. It seemed they were having a bad night as two other tables were having problems with their food orders. The table of six diners behind us had problems with all but one meal. Five sent their plates back to the kitchen which left one diner eating alone. They waited ages for their food to be brought out and he had basically finished his meal by then. At one point a guy came out if the kitchen who we assumed was a chef. He appeared to be waving his arms around and not in a good mood. Not sure if I would return to be honest but at least the manager was prepared to acknowledge that there were problems with meals.

Tonight we had a family meal had the shared starter and 5 more wing ....the wings looked

Like they where cooked in a.month old oil really dark burn like but it wasn't it was old oil....

I had the 10oz 15day matured steak which didn't look like 10oz more 8 and it came in a with a a harlf off a cabage a few drops off dressing and a fee strands off red onions and 2 harlf off cherry tomatoes was defo not worth 22 pounds worth ..

Have they changed chefs it was good awhile back but the last few time the steaks are smaller and cooked to how ever they think it is ...

For 98 pounds for 4 people I think

Miller and Carter For now on

Staff very friendly. Starters good . Had the calimari. Not sure how it costs £5 for a small bowl but there’s you go. Haddock was cooked lovely and reasonable size. Peas were awful along with the chips which neither me or Doris ate. Her steak was good to be fair. Would I eat here again? Sorry no. Especially as it came to £30 AFTER 30% off.

If you can go elsewhere - do! Tonight was there last chance and they failed miserably! There were several complaints of cold food, poor tasting food, vouchers not being able to be used at the tables around us! My son's starter - garlic bread was a piece of something like tescos frozen slices...not appealing at all, very anaemic! My onion and cheese tart was riddled with pieces of pepper, but no mention in the menu - that went back. My son's burger was dry as a bone and looked burnt. My main wasn't too bad, given previous experiences apart from the triple cooked chips which looked so over done and crispy I feared for my teeth. We only went to use up the points voucher from previous visits...we won't be going back and will try somewhere else in future.

User

Been to a Beefeater before and it was great... NOT here though. Food was burnt, service was awful, no attention made by waitresses. After not paying a cheap price for the meal was very disappointed.

User

They don't serve bar food after 6 at weekends we was staying at premier inn next door and just wanted a snack . Restaurant was empty too . Bad management

User

So disappointed with the customer service. Booked a table for Christmas in August...offered my card to guarantee the booked, was told this was not necessary and I would be contacted at a later date.

Was called by Dave the manager today and told that the time I had booked is no longer available! Nothing he can do apparently...was offered an earlier table but don't want to have Christmas lunch at midday!

Not the way to treat your local, regular customers!!

User

Really disappointed in your customer service. Booked a table on the 19th of August (while at the restaurant for breakfast) for 9 people. Have just called up to amend the booking to 12 people to be told the maximum number you can book for is 8?? Strange as we'd originally booked for 9!

We were happy to have 2 tables close to each other as appreciate that 12 is a big table to accommodate but no, your member of staff wasn't able to help in that way either. Shame as you've now lost custom to a competitor, not just on this occasion but in the future.

User

Kate the manager was rude when we walked in. Made us feel like there was no space for us even though there were plenty of empty seats. She then made a comment to another customer in front about getting fresh pancakes incase my children's hands had been touching them .... even though I was sorting their plates out using the tongs. Made us feel uncomfortable eating there. Sausages were chewy and the bacon was over cooked. We loved coming for breakfast before, but doubt very much we'll be back due to staff making us feel like we were a burden.

User

Had to send my sons food back twice as the order wasn’t right. He ended up eating on his own as we had all finished by the time he’s food finally arrived. Although the burger bun was seriously burnt and rock hard he was so hungry he ate it regardless. After a complaint my sons order was taken off the bill. The waitress and front of house staff were all very nice. Sack the chef as he let the whole evening down.
