REX Robotic assistance for rehabilitation, exercise and walking.
Here is Joe working with Ethan. Thank you Ethan for allowing us to film you and post on social media.
REX does not require the use of crutches, leaving the arms free for upper body exercises and activities of daily living and allowing access for a wide range of patients.
... Wheelchair users are at risk of developing numerous medical complications from extended periods of sitting. By enabling them to spend more time standing, walking and exercising, REX may offer significant health benefits.

Great post by @honest_physio: https://www.facebook.com/thehonestphysio/ 😍 MOTION IS LOTION!😍 How often do you hear 👂 this: 🏃 Running is bad for your knees! The pounding is really bad for the joint! Way too often patinents come to me having been told to STOP 🚫 doing the thing that they love doing because somewhere along the chain either a physio, GP, consultant or another health care provider said "Stop running, it's not good for your knees!"⚠️ 😡 It's time we start following ...the evidence and stop fear mongering. Remember before making these thoughtless statements - THINK! Why does this invidiual want to Run/Swim/Walk/Climb 🧗‍♂️ 🏊 🚴 or whatever it may be! Perhaps the obvious reason is exercise but dig deeper!🤔 Maybe it's for their mental health, maybe it's for social purposes, maybe it's because it gives them a break from other ongoing parts of their life where for a short period they can separate from those issues so before you say STOP, STOP yourself and think about the evidence! 📚 NICE Guidlines for OA encourage us to promote aerobic exercise, strengthening exercises and advice to follow a generally healthy life style!
Eduard Alentorn-Geli Et Al. 2017 JOSPT The association of recreational and competitive running with hip and knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis These results indicated that a more sedentary lifestyle or long exposure to high-volume and/or high-intensity running are both associated with hip and/or knee OA.
Leech Et Al. 2015 BJSM Does running protect against knee osteoarthritis? Or promote it Assessing the current evidence Currently, we would argue that insufficient evidence exists to identify the relationship between recreational running and the risk of knee osteoarthritis onset and progression. The definitive answer to the question—does recreational running contribute to the risk of knee osteoarthritis?—remains elusive.
Ponzio Et Al. 2018 In our cohort, the arthritis rate of active marathoners was below that of the general U.S. population.
Lo Et Al. 2017 Among individuals 50 years old and older with knee OA, self-selected running is associated with improved knee pain and not with worsening knee pain or radiographically defined

If You Have Osteoarthritis, Take Care of Your Knees To Avoid Surgery If you have osteoarthritis, surgery is rarely a first resort. There are plenty of things you can do to avoid (or at least postpone) heading into the operating room. Take care of your knees with these solutions.
Weight loss. For many, weight loss is a basic but crucial way to help avoid knee surgery. Shedding just 15 pounds can cut knee pain in half. And should you need arthritis knee surgery later, you’ll de...crease your risk of complications and reduce strain on your knees, which will make your rehabilitation go more smoothly.
Physical activity. The health of your knees depends on movement. Strong muscles support the joint and relieve pressure. Movement keeps tissues within the joint flexible, lubricated and replenished with nutrients that help healing. If you end up having knee surgery, the rehab will be easier if you start strengthening muscles before surgery. Walking is a great way to keep your knees healthy and pain free.
At Benfleet Physio we can help you learn more about why exercise is so important if you have arthritis and hope to avoid knee surgery.
We have various equipment such as the antigravity treadmill machine which can help you keep active with less impact on your knee joints, our staff will help you and give you some great ideas for maintaining motivation, stretching, safe moves and more.
