User

To all our valued past, present and future customers,
There have been quite a lot of social media rumours surrounding Betty Bumbles over the last month or two and we wish to try and clarify some of this. Firstly, Betty Bumbles is for sale but as a going concern. The likelihood is that if it is sold, it will continue as it is, just with different owners. As yet, no buyer has been found and if one is found it will take six months before a sale is completed. So, nothing's chan...ged. Secondly, we're still taking bookings for events and functions for both the tearoom and bar. The business is going ahead very much as usual.
Thanks, Michael and Sarah

We had afternoon tea for my Mum’s Birthday, 27th July

We had a lovely afternoon tea & club sandwich today. The ladies are always very friendly and always make an effort to speak to our little girl too what she loves! The food is always great and the scones are delicous. It does take a little bit of time to come but you expect that when they are busy and it's prepared fresh. We'll be back again soon!

User

My son and I had lovely fresh scones and ample amounts of tea. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Need to fix the door though as people had difficulty shutting it and we got cold! Definitely recommend it.

User

Lovely afternoon tea, beautifully displayed and delicious and very good value for money

Just got back from a lovely lunch at Betty's. We spotted you across the market place and KNEW we wanted to come in. We were so pleased that you offered more seating upstairs and had a lovely table near the window. The decoration of the whole tea rooms, really was amazing. We order our lunch and our HUGE pot of tea arrived shortly after. I loved the little tea cossie! Looking around the room I could see that each one was different. The tables were well dressed and it really did remind me of having lunch at my Great Grandma's house. Lunch arrived, and we couldn't believe the size of the ploughmans! Honestly, there was half a block of cheddar! We had a lovely lunch and we didn't have to take out a mortgage for the privilidge! Wish we had known they did take away cake, but it just gives us an excuse to go back. Have already planned who to bring with us next time, and will certainly book a table as we wouldn't want to miss out! Thank you ladies for a lovely lunch!! Couple at Table 2 :)

User

I always love visiting Betty Bumbles tea rooms in St Neots. Excellent varied menu to accommodate all eaters (my daughter is only 2 and she is incredibly fussy - she loves eating here), excellent value & very high quality. All the staff are exceptional. I love how the business is family run, its nice to see as there isn't many family run businesses in the area anymore. They always add the personal touch and go the extra mile for their customers. I have recently enjoyed visiting on one of their bar nights (Bertie's Bar i think). I am really fussy with what I drink but luckily the staff always accommodate my needs, making my drinks to suit me irrelevant of their set menu with a smile on their face. I had a cocktail with my work colleague around two weeks ago made from gin jam which was delicious. I shall continue to visit here, best place in town :) well done guys keep up the hard work.

User

Have been a few times now and you cant really fault the service and the food. I love rhe atmosphere and the staff are always helpful and nothing is too much trouble 5*

User

Had lunch here with my mum and son today and was really happy. Fabulous service from a really helpful, friendly waitress, (short dark hair) and the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Highly recommend.

User

Called in on my way back from Norfolk to have lunch with my sister and family. I was very impressed - great food, reasonably priced, lovely atmosphere and polite staff. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to visit again! Especially loved the tea cosies on the little teapots!

User

A lovely afternoon with tea and scone and cream and jam! What more could you want! Thank you!

User

I reserved a table a week prior to visiting for afternoon tea for my sister's birthday. The food was lovely, the fruit scone was as big as my head so didn't have room for my cake but Betty Bumbles provide takeaway cartons so we took our cake with us. I loved the decor, very chintz and quirky and reminded me of my great aunts house with embroidered tablecloths, tea cosys, wooden sideboards, old fashioned knives and forks and Doris Day playing in the background. It was very popular and some people were turned away so I recommend booking a table. But we had a lovely time. Thankyou Betty Bumbles x

User

After reading recent reviews I feel I have to write to say how much I enjoyed my visit with my daughter yesterday lunchtime. It wasn't very busy downstairs but then it was a horrible wet day. The menu is really comprehensive but we had gone specifically for the afternoon tea. The sandwiches were light yet with plenty of filling and the huge scones with jam and cream were still warm. Sadly we couldn't manage the slices of cake on top of all that but there was no problem getting boxes to take them away. And I can say that the lemon curd cake is to die for. Service was just right. Not too pushy and not hovering to clear the table and produce the bill but we were still out in just over an hour and a half - I don't think that's too long.

User

We visited on Mother's Day and it was lovely .The food delicious and service was very good on a very busy day , we will certainly be returning .

User

Visited Betty Bumbles today with my mum and a party of ladies to celebrate Mother’s Day and I must say I was a little disappointed. We sat down around 2.30pm and ordered our afternoon tea by 2.45pm. The pots of tea only arrived half an hour later and our afternoon tea had to be chased twice and arrived an hour later after there being some mix up in the kitchen. The waitresses in fairness were rushed of their feet and admittedly it was very busy. However being Mother’s Day weekend and our booking being made in advance more allowance should be given to staffing on busier days. The young lady who served us was lovely and so apologetic and although not her fault we felt our disappointment needed to be voiced. On the plus side the food was good on the whole. The sandwiches in particular very tasty along with the cake. The crisps were stale however and the scone sadly disappointing and dry (I prefer clotted cream out of personal preference).

Read on to further reviews and it seems my views are echoed and although not easy to take criticism

in order to uphold a good reputation it is important otherwise people sadly won’t return.

Having booked a table for 5 for my mums 80th birthday, two tables were layed out to sit 8 which left one of my daughters on a table on her own so rearranging the furniture we managed to squise on a table together, we asked for the music to be turned down because of my step fathers heating aid it didn't happen and he didn't want to make a fuss - the staff were very overworked thus not overly friendly and we had to wait a long time for service - when I booked the table I asked for a candle to come out to sing happy birthday, this didn't happen !! Overall a little disappointed considering it was a very special day and it was recommended

User

This was our first visit for a while and we was left feeling very disappointed with the service and the quality of some of the food. When we arrived we was seated quickly and handed menus however this is when the waiting started....having decided what we wanted we was left waiting for a member of staff to come over and take our order. Eventually we was served and again the waiting started, we ordered a pot of tea (something very quick to prepare) and this took as long to come out as the food. My wife ordered a fish finger sandwich and she had to ask for tartar sauce as the sandwich arrived at the table without it despite the fact it should already have come with it.

If I could give an individual rating for the young girl who was serving the tables at the front of the shop pretty much by herself then I would give her a 5*. She was given little to no help by other members of staff and was constantly apologising to customers for delays to food and orders, she was expected to take orders as well as deal with customers coming in and unfortunately was being made to look like she was not in control as she was receiving no support from her colleagues. I over heard her say to another customer that it was only her second day in the job which was even more impressive given her lack of experience working there, she was polite and didn’t not stop running around while we was there trying to keep on top of everything.

The fact we kept over hearing by senior members of staff that it was busy upstairs and it had been a busy day is not an excuse, I would suggest more members of staff working during busy periods?

You have a good thing going here Betty Bumbles but unfortunately you are spoiling it with a very poor level of service, reading some of your other reviews this poor experience seems to be becoming more common with your customers. Start to support your employees a bit more and the customers will only benefit. Unfortunately we will not be rushing back anytime soon.

User

Service has been very slow the last couple of times we have been. Didn't think much of the 'afternoon tea' where you had to choose a sandwich per person and a slice of cake. If we'd wanted a sandwich and slice of cake we'd have booked that. To me afternoon tea is a delicate selection of finger sandwiches, small warm scones with jam and cream and a selection of bite size petit fours and mini cakes etc not a sandwich, a huge cold scone that could have been a meal itself and a large slice of cake. It's a shame as the decor and atmosphere there could be something really special.

User

Well Betty Bumbles you have really excelled yourselves not even bothering to contact me back to tell me you've cancelled my daughters 4th birthday family meal. I had to call you back myself to find out. with just over a week to go!! because its too much of - in your own words "a Hoo-Har" for you and your chef. Because a booking of a table of 20 (fair enough only 18 eating) is not enough money coming in for you on "your busiest day".

I used to love coming into your tea room and i am so disappointed.

User

We had my sisters baby shower upstairs, we handed over £260 to only get a few sandwich selection, and a variety of Tesco picnic bits, no crisps no cakes no drinks like we were told when we booked, We all had to pay extra for it, which was fine for me as I love a cocktail but not good for older members as they wouldn't make both my nan's a cup of tea they told us they had switched the machines off? And was not good for people who came with no money expecting a drink in with the money they had already paid!!

My aunt is a vegetarian (which they were aware of) who ate hardly nothing!!

I had people messaging me saying that they were let down by the venue and food after paying for it, I emailed the following day but did not hear back...... no surprises there!!

Would not recommend an occasion there!!

My son and I had lovely fresh scones and ample amounts of tea. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Need to fix the door though as people had difficulty shutting it and we got cold! Definitely recommend it.

Had lunch here with my mum and son today and was really happy. Fabulous service from a really helpful, friendly waitress, (short dark hair) and the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Highly recommend.

Thank you!

We visited on Mother's Day and it was lovely .The food delicious and service was very good on a very busy day , we will certainly be returning .
