Big Steps Little Feet Description

Welcome to Big Steps Little Feet. Congratulations on taking an exciting step into parenthood. It is exactly that . . . . taking BIG steps and often it feels like we as parents have feet that are too little to take such strides.
The book shelves are groaning with advice on ‘how to’, ‘what not to do’, psychology and analysis of parenting practices. It can feel like we are bombarded with theories and advice to promote good health and well being in our off spring from the moment of conception. All the advice is founded in noble intention and with good will. It is with good will and ‘experience’ that even complete strangers will advise on what ‘you should do with that . . . . ! ’

Clinics and health professionals can sometimes give conflicting advice. You may see a different health professional each time and hurriedly at that. These have been some of my experiences as a mother and a Health professional in the NHS for over 20 years. For this reason I am proud to provide a bespoke service to you and your family, based on your values and what is important to you. I have studied for many years and all my practice in Big Steps Little Feet is grounded in an evidence base and applied to your individual family requirements to feel confident and enjoy the experiences in the journey of parenting.

I offer support and advice on all aspects of Family Health from Pregnancy, sleep issues to feeding and child development concerns.

Friday cuteness overload! Seriously good demonstration of how to support your toddler in developing language and conversation... nothing to do with learning words!

Beautiful description of what a doula does. Did you have a doula? Would you add any other words?

It’s half term week for those of you with preschoolers. A conversation I have regularly at my child health clinic at Busy Bees nursery encapsulated in this meme.
How we react to our toddlers strong emotions and strong will in the process of demonstrating living life on life’s terms is key to supporting their self awareness and self esteem. Theres a bigger picture- the adult your child will become. Hold that picture in your mind... you want a follower, a person who can’t say... No? There’s no space for shame and blame. Lots of opportunities for labelling feelings, supporting them in learning how to manage the feelings of anger, frustration, excitement etc.
It starts with us as parents - the word discipline comes from disciple- it’s not what we say it’s what we do! Caveat! You don’t have to do this on your own. Ask for help and support.... Remember it takes a village to raise a child 😅..,

Motherhood in a nutshell! - days where we don’t feel like we’re doing so good and look at other and think they’re doing great. The reality is we take turns...let’s support each other by speaking the truth and building each other up.

A great place to give your baby / toddler ‘stuff ‘ that’s no longer needed.

Not everyone agrees with this statement. This research supports my experience professionally and personally.... and the impact of irregular bedtimes is not limited to 3-7 year olds! What are your thoughts /experiences?

Congratulations Meghan and Harry ❤️ 👶

I get asked this question A LOT! What’s the best age difference/ gap between siblings?
Focusing only on the mother...
As a mother I have experience of a gap of 2 years 10 months between my first and second, 15 months between 2nd and 3rd and 6 years between my 3rd and 4th child.
... Motherhood is taxing emotionally and physically. I think it’s very personal, it’s complicated and there are so many individual factors involved which impact the mother, at different ages, stages, workload, temperament , birth experience, relationship etc
So, any thoughts on age gaps/ spacing babies? What did you do? What are you planning? 👶
