Spacious natural camping in the heart of Suffolk's Alde valley

Birds & Bees Campsite Description

Spacious natural eco camping in the heart of Suffolk's Alde Valley. Leave your car in our sunken car park out of sight and wander down to one of our 15 spacious pitches individually carved out of the long meadow grass. Scattered across three rolling meadows these carefully selected glades provide our guests with a whole half an acre per pitch. Light up your own real campfire using our locally sourced and sustainable firewood, sizzle some of the best local produce over the flames and gaze at the huge skies above as the day turns to night. No need for an alarm clock, the birds song is incredible, make your self at home in our recently installed shower facilities in the converted dairy building. We also try and offer you the choice of absolute seclusion, picturesque views or family fun with proximity to the main building, just select your preference when booking and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

Thanks to all our willing volunteers a few weeks ago that stepped up to taste a new low sugar Ice Cream and give valuable feedback for our student's case study at Suffolk Meadow Ice Cream. We'll keep you posted on the results and which sample was a winner! It was a pretty popular hour, so we may have to think of something similar next year! Thanks Again!

We've literally got miles of giant hedges at Birds and Bees and this is our favourite time of year for the wildlife to enjoy the fruits that they provide. From Blackberries, slows, hawes, pink elderflower and hops to crabapples and rose hips. Don't worry there's plenty for our camping guests to forage and take home too so come and check in for the feast of berries, big open skies and campfires under canvas, we're closing on the 9th of September this year so hope to see you soon.

We had a brilliantly interesting morning at the campsite yesterday as Vivia from Sciapod Dairy came to tour a lovely group of guests around the meadows and hedgerows, we discovered all sorts of treats, tales and mysteries. Thanks so much to Vivia for her endless expertise and enthusiasm on the subject, thanks also to everyone that came along the feedback from grown ups & children alike has been so positive and we are looking forward to hosting another Foraging event in the early Autumn when nature will provide us with a whole host of new discoveries

It’s been a warm wet spring, perfect for the mosquitos, perhaps this trick will work for you if you’re flavour of the month with the little biters πŸ˜ŠπŸ•πŸ¦πŸπŸŒžπŸ”₯πŸ‘

Sometimes you don't know what you love until you see it. If you're thinking of a camping trip this year have a little look at our video, nature all around, spacious pitches, open campfires and lush facilities, the perfect place to explore Suffolk's heritage coastline. We'd love to welcome you at Birds & Bees :)

User

Great advice here everyone, it’s very tricky for the birds to find food in this weather, let’s give them a helping hand πŸ€šπŸ˜ŠπŸ’πŸ›πŸŒ»πŸŽπŸž

So excited to see a pair of beautiful Barn Owls enjoying our camping fields, which bodes well for Owlets this spring and summer! πŸ˜„πŸ¦‰πŸ’•πŸ¦‰β›ΊοΈπŸ¦πŸπŸŒ

Wonderful bank holiday weekend at the Birds and Bees campsite. Thank you James! We will be back! Martina and Stuart Watson

User

We’ve really loved our stay at Birds and Bees for so many reasons! Beautiful peaceful location, loads of exploring for kids, with amazing facilities that have clearly been well thought out. Such a fantastic 3 days in the area and so close to lovely places for days out. James and Emma are such lovely, friendly and helpful hosts. We will definitely stay again and spread the word! Honestly is one of the best campsites I’ve stayed at. οΏ½

We were the lucky winners of the Birds and Bees "win a free camping weekend with luxury breakfast hamper" so decided to tool ourselves up and head for our first camping holiday with our toddler.

We could not fault anything about this campsite at all. Emma and James were exceptional hosts and the facilities are a far cry from campsites we have experienced in the past. The kitchen for example is equipped with a microwave and kettle as well as the usual fridge freezer you might expect. The toilets (including the compost bog) and showers were really good and clean. The site is beautiful and the pitches large and really spaced out so we felt relaxed and unbothered by anything really!

The downside of the car park being a little way from pitches is the carting backwards and forwards of gear, but the payoff in terms of no traffic and natural beauty is worth it.

Our only regret is not trying the ice cream!

Thank you for our only ever competition win. We had a really wonderful time!

User

We spent a marvellous Father’s Day weekend at this site! Absolutely wonderful in every possible way! I couldn’t fault it! We are definitely booking to come again!

User

We had a wonderful camp. Our hosts were amazing. The meadows we stayed in are absolutely beautiful and the fasilities are lovely. All my children (teenagers and toddlers) had a lovely time following the paths through the tall grasses and being close to nature. We will definitely be coming again.

User

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at this beautiful site, so peaceful and tranquil but with all the mod cons you could want if the completely 'wild' experience is just one step too far! Such a warm welcome from James and a beautiful pitch (robin) which offered privacy and glorious morning and early evening sunshine. Excellent and spotlessly clean facilities and so much to do locally means this is a site we hope to return to again very soon - our children were so sad to leave, a real success as their first 'proper' camping experience!

User

We had a great 2 night stay at the camp site and had a fantastic time. The pitches are really spaced out and make it feel that you are camping out away from civilisation. It's been carefully thought out as our friend were only 20 metres away but we couldn't see them.

The bee hive (showers, kitchen etc) are a short stroll and are really well done so you get the best of both worlds.

Our kids loved sitting by an open fire, we cooked over ours and they played freely in the fields and hedgerows and were really happy hear.

James and Emma were fab, very welcoming and genuinely passionate about the place and always had time for a chat. They seem to really care about doing things properly and nice to see people doing the green thing because they care about it.

Thanks for a great stay.

User

We had a fantastic time , 3 nights in Suffolk countryside in summer. This place is calm and quiet and you can have a fire. I will definately return! Well thought out for the environment but everything we needed. Thanks to James and Emma for making us welcome.

User

We had a fab 3 nights on the site and it's truly magical. Lots of peace and space. The birds and insects are amazing. Thanks so much, we will definitely be back. πŸ•

User

We found this place by pure chance, and what a beauty! James was beyond helpful with advice pre booking, to meeting us when we got there and on hand for any questions during our stay. The whole campsite had an amazing atmosphere which no doubt was influenced by the warm greetings we all received.

The site itself gives you all the space and peace of wild camping, with brand new spotless facilities close by. The pitches are cut into the meadow so when you look out of the tent all you see is nature.

We don't usually believe in returning to campsites, because we love exploring new places. However, we've just booked to go back in 2 weeks. My brother and his girlfriend never camp, and I can't think of any site better to make you fall in love with camping!

User

This has been the best weekend of camping ever! Friendly and helpful hosts, and a site that makes you feel that you are there on your own, in glorious nature. Will definitely be back!

User

This campsite was perfect for our family of four. We loved it how we felt like we were camping in the middle of nowhere but we could also stick the kettle on for a proper cup of tea in the morning and have a lovely hot shower! The kids could run around and play safely and it was really peaceful. Thank you for a great weekend οΏ½

User

Thank you for such a perfect weekend with you. All the small details you have to make everyone’s stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. We will defiantly be back and will recommend to friends and family looking for a perfect getaway spot οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½

User

I’m lying here listening to the rain patter on the roof of my new tent. I’ve spent today and most of yesterday in a perfect mown circle nestled amid tall grass full of nesting song birds surrounded by perfect calm.

James & Emma have created a little bit of heaven on their Suffolk farm. Treat yourself to a slice of bliss.

User

Great family friendly campsite. The camping pitches are fairly private as there are only a few spaced out in the meadows. The shower block and kitchen facilities were new and well equipped. It is set in the beautiful Suffolk countryside with lots of nearby attractions such as the lovely Suffolk coastline. I would definitely recommend this campsite and hope to return again soon.

User

For someone who's not used to camping, aside from the annual school camp over (in the school grounds), we thought we'd be adventurous and go for a full-on camping weekend away. As we love the Suffolk coast, we searched for camping sites near Southwold and Aldeburgh and came across the Birds and Bees campsite. Having just got back tonight I can't recommend this location enough. I really don't like camping yet despite torrential rain I have to say that James and Emma were perfect hosts. So helpful and friendly. The pitch was secluded but still near all the facilities, with great showers, toilets and kitchen. There is a village pub nearby and a lovely local farm shop too for coffees and full English. We'd also recommend the pre ordered breakfast you can get to cook and feel really outdoorsy! All in all a lovely place. If you are thinking of going away soon go and try out the Birds and Bees! I think I'm up for giving camping another go even! Thanks for a lovely time. James, Natalie, Lily and Amy

User

Fantastic well spaced out campsite with a relaxed atmosphere. James, The owner is a great guy who just happens to make my eldest son's new favourite Ice cream! We'll be back. Thanks, Steve

User

Fantastic campsite set in idyllic surroundings. The pitches are nice and big so you are not near other tents and you have enough space for the kids to run and play.

The campsite has first class facilities, with brand new, hot showers and there is even a large family bathroom which made it so easy.

With so much space to explore we loved it and will definitely be going back for a longer stay!

User

An amazing campsite! Kids were running around free and exploring. Facilities were clean. And James and Emma were really helpful!

We had a lovely 3 nights and will definitely be back!
