Today we took part in our sponsored big toddle. The theme was nature, we moved in a variety of different ways to raise money for vulnerable children. The total raised so far £327.20! Thank you for all your support.

Reminder! Our Big Toddle is taking place on Wednesday the 8th of August @10:30am. We are asking for donations on the day to support the Barnardo's Children's charity. Please inform a member of our team if you are able to join us at 10:30 to be part of the fun. Limited places available.
We look forward to seeing all the children's and staff's wonderful costumes. 😊

As the farmers start to harvest the wheat in their fields the children learn about how flour is made and have a go at making their own. We also made some tasty bread rolls 😊

How do you cool down during a heatwave? With water play and water fights😊 The children had a good aim with the water balloons 😊

Stick insects, caterpillars, spiders and bugs were all part of our fun day. We love looking after our stick insects and we also like finding mini-beasts in the garden 🐛🐞🕷

Today our preschool children have been exploring and learning about fossils 😊

This week we had a special visitor called "Alex" the grasshopper!

Our younger children and babies have enjoyed exploring the large floor sensory baskets 😊

We are so pleased to have received such positive feedback about our New Nursery Menu's, which will launch in September. Our fantastic new food provision will run on a seasonal rota, to cater for the preferences of meal types throughout the warmer and cooler months of the year.
We are also excited to announce that we also be hosting weekly themed menu's for different events, such as Halloween, Chinese New Year, Diwali and much more! 🎃🍜🥣

Communication and Language Development for Preschool ages
At Blackberries we are devoted in promoting communication and language skills with all children as part of our school readiness program, the preschool children will no longer be using home communication books.
Over the past few months we have been monitoring the children’s rapid extending vocabulary and the delight they have in sharing their days activities with you. Staff members always share important information dur...ing handover times, and are happy to arrange meets to discuss any questions you may have about your child development.
Did you know: Studies show that Poor language predicts poor literacy skills and, without the right help, between 50% and 90% of children with persistent communication needs go on to have reading difficulties. Vocabulary at age 5 is a very strong predictor of the qualifications achieved at school leaving age and beyond. It’s very important that we promote communication both inside and outside the nursery environment.
Speak to a practitioner to find out how you can support your child’s communication and language development. HOT LEVEL 2 WEATHER ALERT - MET OFFICE
Dear Parents and Carers,
The Met Office has declared a Hot Weather Alert Level 2 for East of England. The Met Office forecasts means there is 60% chance of temperatures being high enough on at least two consecutive days to have significant effects on health of very warm or hot days, especially across western parts.
... Here at Blackberries we are following the guidance from the Public Health Looking for after children and those in early years settings during heatwaves. Please view the Heatwave Plan for England for advice and guidance, which includes the following:
Stay out of the Heat:
• keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm • if you have to go out in the heat, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat and light scarf • avoid extreme physical exertion • wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes
Cool yourself down:
• have plenty of cold drinks, and avoid excess alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks • eat cold foods, particularly salads and fruit with a high water content • take a cool shower, bath or body wash • sprinkle water over the skin or clothing, or keep a damp cloth on the back of your neck
Keep your environment cool:
• keeping your living space cool is especially important for infants, the elderly or those with chronic health conditions or who can’t look after themselves • place a thermometer in your main living room and bedroom to keep a check on the temperature • keep windows that are exposed to the sun closed during the day, and open windows at night when the temperature has dropped • close curtains that receive morning or afternoon sun, however, care should be taken with metal blinds and dark curtains, as these can absorb heat – consider replacing or putting reflective material in-between them and the window space • turn off non-essential lights and electrical equipment – they generate heat • keep indoor plants and bowls of water in the house as evaporation helps cool the air • if possible, move into a cooler room, especially for sleeping • electric fans may provide some relief, if temperatures are below 35°C2

The last day of our #30daywildchallange 2018. The children enjoyed hunting for mini beasts in the garden and recording what they found.

The baby room at blackberries is phenomenal! Deborah and her team rescued us when we had to move childcare settings and from day 1 Rory felt at home. They are such a nurturing environment and really encourage the differences in each child. It is hard to leave your baby with a stranger to go back to work- We cannot thank you enough for caring for Rory so well, not to mention helping us feel our way through being new parents. Becca is so good at her job and is a credit to blackberries!

Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff at Blackberries for being such an integral part of George's life for the last 4 years. What an amazing team! Deborah has such love and enthusiasm for the welfare of the children. George has always been happy and secure in your care. We will miss you!! �

Our son has been at Blackberry House for the past 4years and the wonderful staff have helped him grow. He has learnt so much and has enjoyed every session. We're saying bye for now as our son moves onto School, but we'll continue our journey with you at Kids Club. Thank you to each and every one of you!

My little girl started a few weeks ago and loves it, today on our way home she said "thank you for taking me there mummy it was an exciting day" she doesn't stop talking about it all the way home.

My daughter started few weeks ago and loves it. Staff are friendly and very welcoming. The nursery covers all aspects of my daughters development. Would definitely recommend.

Just finished at parents evening and I have to say, the staff are informative and friendly and my son absolutely loves being there. Thank you so much for all of the work you do and the care you take with him. The biggest thing to a mother is making sure your child is loved and cared for when you're not there and they certainly have eased this from the day we looked around the nursery to today. I would recommend this nursery to anyone.

I work in a care home providing activities for our residents with dementia. Paige from Blackberries nursery (Peterborough) is very helpful and keen to support me in bringing a group of children to the home once a month. It is so lovely to see the two generations coming together. Thankyou all!

Charlie has been at this nursery since he was 7 months old and is now 4, and has just been dropped off for the last time, as he goes to school in September. He has felt a part of the Blackberries family from the beginning, and we have too as you have told us everything from first words to getting a gardening certificate!
