About Brightlingsea Harbour

Brightlingsea Harbour in Brightlingsea, a small friendly leisure and commercial port.

Brightlingsea Harbour Description

Brightlingsea Harbour is a small mixed leisure and commercial port with a rich heritage, situated in Brightlingsea Creek close to the mouth of the Colne Estuary where it meets the Blackwater and Thames Estuaries.

The Harbour is within a nature conservation area of international importance. The River Colne is navigable on the tide for 7 miles to Colchester in Essex and the River Blackwater is navigable for 11 miles to Maldon. Brightlingsea is a day sail from most ports on the Thames Estuary.

Brightlingsea Harbour is a Trust Port managed by Brightlingsea Harbour Commissioners. The Harbour Master leads a dedicated team of permanent and seasonal staff who oversee the day to day activities within the Harbour.

The Harbour provides a total of about 500 berths and moorings and welcomes many visiting boats, which can number 100 on a busy weekend. Boats of up to 50 feet (15m) and 8 feet (2. 5m) draft can be accommodated and a warm welcome awaits all. Facilities at Brightlingsea Harbour have steadily been upgraded over recent years and now includes the addition of a laundry facility for Harbour users and the sale of diesel fuel from a floating barge berth.

We really loved Brightlingsea. We were staying across the water and saw it from the distance and close up didn't disappoint in any way. Such a pretty place with a nice feel to it. Would definitions go again.

We loved this little gem, clean, fresh and calm

Lovely path to walk along the coast, cafe on the way. Lots of open spaces we stayed here in our motorhome. My husband was taken with the lovely painted beach huts

User

User

One of our favourite places to visit. Disappointed the harbour fish shop was closed.

We particularly like walking along the sea wall by the beach huts, with our 2 Yorkies, finishing up at the Bateman's Tower cafe for a nice meal and a cuppa.

Can't believe I've been sailing the east coast for 15 years and visited Brightlingsea for first time. It's lovey. Well worth the mooring fees. Taxi ashore was very convenient for the evening trips other than that we used the dingy. Plenty to do, plenty to look at with all the comings and goings. Well organised and very friendly. For such a small town it really has it all.

User

Brightlingsea is a lovely place to visit, especially to photograph the boats and stormy skies. A great place if you are on a budget too. Lots of free activities for the children.

User

Beautiful seaside town. You can easily spend a whole day here with children. Get here early in the morning for a yummy cooked breakfast at the cafe, enjoy some crabbing on the hard, enjoy chilling out by the boating lake while children can play safely, and finish your day with some nice fish and chips from waterside sitting on the front. Perfect day out. Love Brightlingsea.

User

A good place for a stroll and if you fancy it, a swim as well. Toilet facilities and places to eat and drink, lots of car parking places.

User

Great place to stop but its just not worth £20 a night with extra charges to go ashore on water taxi (£6). Tollesbury has water, electricity, walk shore, clubhouse open evenings, more sheltered and £29 a night. Even Queenbrough has walk ashore for £20 a night. I think at very least water taxi should be free.

User

Enjoy visiting Brightlingsea but charge for pontoon mooring stay a little steep as no power etc. And further charge for trot boat. But love the walk along to the tower and the holiday bustle with happy crabbing children and racing dingies darting all about. Great weekend in all.
