12 Days of Christmas - countdown
On the 3rd day - three great meals.
The provision of good food is very important to us. In fact meal times is another activity we love to offer. A guest who recently travelled with us said he was thankful we had other activities as the food was so moreish it was the only way he could keep the weight off. Our food is freshly prepared by our wonderful chefs who are always happy to cater for all dietary needs.

Christmas
On Christmas day - One great holiday
On behalf of us all at Caledonian Discovery can I wish you a wonderful, peaceful Christmas.

Twelve days of Christmas - countdown On the 2nd day of Christmas - Two Great Boats
Fingal of Caledonia, who will be 90 years young this year (2019) and Ros Crana who will be 57 years young, are both comfortable and unique in their own ways.
... Whichever you prefer, they both bring colour and some fun to the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen. It's a great Holiday.

Twelve days of Christmas - countdown On the 5th day of Christmas - Five cheery crew
We know we have way more than 5 cheery crew members but when Anne Marie was singing the tune of 12 days of Christmas 5 Cheery crew fitted perfectly. All the crew members, past and present, have been wonderful ambassadors for Caledonian Discovery and the Great Glen. #ThisisScotland

Twelve days of Christmas - countdown On the 6th day of Christmas - Six canoeists canoeing
On a calm day it is a relaxing way to explore the Caledonian Canal and the lochs of Ness, Oich and Lochy. A wonderful section to canoe is through Laggan Avenue, with its majestic, mature trees, flanking either side of the canal. While paddling you forget that only 500 metres away is the A 82, a major road to the Isle of Skye and Inverness.

Twelve days of Christmas - countdown
On the 7th day of Christmas - Seven days of holiday
This part of Scotland, has recently been promoted as one of the places to visit in 2019 by the Lonely Planet guide, so come and join us for seven days of freedom along the Caledonian canal.
... Why? The relaxing pace at which each cruise travels through the Great Glen; the chef on board preparing each meal slowly and with love; a barge, with your en-suite accommodation, following you during your day of exploration. At the end of the day relax in the comfortable barge and reminisce on your recent experiences and discuss the next day’s choice of peace or adventure. #ScotlandIsNow #myoutdoorcapital

Jings would you believe it! Our final week of operation for 2018 starts this Saturday. It has been a great year for weather, laughs and memories. But more stories once Ros Crana has finished her season. Can I remind you we are still offering £70 off per person for our 7 day cruises and £35 for our 4 day cruises , for our 2019 cruises until the end of January. It is a great offer whichever way you look at it! Talking off lookers I have included a picture of the last crew for the Fingal season Adam, Magnus, Lucy and Alfie. (Steve is lurking in the picture as well)
Can I wish all of those participating on the final cruise an enjoyable journey. #myoutdoorcapital #Caledoniancanal

User

What a wonderful, relaxing vacation through some of the most beautiful country! The crew (all four of them) were wonderful. I think Phoebe convinced me to try more vegetarian cooking her veggie options were so good. After busy days in Edinburgh and Inverness, this leisurely cruise was a welcome opportunity to simply enjoy Scotland's beauty.

User

What a great week I've just shared with my friends walking the Great Glen. Fingal was our home and within a day we thought of the crew as friends, we've almost forgiven them for thrashing us at the pub quiz! If you want a holiday where you can be as active or lazy as you want, in lovely scenery, with the friendliest bunch of people you're likely to meet looking after you, then don't hesitate to go. Thank you Pete, Steve, Adam and Kevin x

User

We had a fantastic week on Ros Crana (8-14th July) Scotland treated us very well with great weather and very few midges. We cannot praise the team highly enough. From the first click to the last hug it was 5 stars and more

User

This was our first proper holiday since Tom's stroke two and a bit years ago so for us it was a big deal. It couldn't have been better! The crew were amazing and facilitated everything we wanted to do, regardless of age or fitness. Lovely fellow passengers, spectacular scenery and excellent food! We loved the trip so much we've already booked a wildlife cruise for next year. Thank you everyone!!

User

The hardest part of walking the Great Glen Way was saying goodbye to the Fingal crew, Adam, Steve, Mangus and Lucy!

User

The "Great Glen Journey" on the Ros Crana was an exceptional active adventure week! The crew did an impressive job selecting, supporting and equipping our activities. The barge was very comfortable, the crew friendly, helpful and fun to be around, and the food always delicious. The scenery was incredible! This trip was by far the best value of any that I have taken. We had a wonderful time!

User

One of the best experiences of my life! Great crew, fantastic activities, excellent food & wonderful accommodations! Can't say enough how special this cruise has been! Highly recommend!

User

Just got back from a superb trip on Ros Crana. The /Skipper Dave (aka Swampy) and the crew were truly amazing and made the trip extra special. Would definitely recommend this to all my family and friends. Will be going again in the not too distant future.

User

Just completed a Mini Cruise on Fingal of Caledonia from Inverness to Banavie. What a great way to see the Caledonian Canal. Thank you Dave (Swampy) and the Crew for such a great time. We'll be back. P.S. Leave off the Sugar, Adam.

User

Just back from having a wonderful holiday aboard the Fingal last week... I'll confess now that I am not what you'd ever describe as an outdoors person; usually finding the love of the great outdoors a bit of a mystery, my husband on the other hand loves it all and so I was persuaded to take up the challenge of walking the Great Glen under the metaphorical comforting cushion of 'staying' on the barge and taking a cruise if I so wished. It was all so positive, and with a fabulous team of fellow passengers, and crew members, very achievable, despite the weather at times being the real challenge; which let's face it, we were in Scotland, and it does rain here with a quaint unrestraint that can border biblical proportions ...but as it's Scotland its weather is also predictably changeable, with rainbows and patches of blue delightfully appearing after ominous grey skies and then lush green landscapes come alive.

We had a lovely cabin, great en-suite with super hot showers, great shared communal accommodation, welcoming and friendly crew; Peter the skipper and Adam the bosun, a fantastic guide Steve, and Kevin the long suffering chef (I'm sure I was a pain with my 'and how do you cook that?' 'Can you just make me a salad?' and 'what's exactly in this?')

I walked the Great Glen and it was a fantastic experience, would I do it again? Oh yes, if it was on the Fingal ...in a heart beat. I would have loved to have done two weeks, the first week walk the Glen and the second recover and return with the boat cruising back ...now there's an idea!!

User

Just back from a lovely week on Ros Crana's Classic Cruise. What a perfect week! I've been struggling a bit health-wise since climbing Mount Kilimanjaro last year and really missing walks in the wild, but with this holiday I could do as much or as little as I was able, day to day. On 'bad days' I could just sit back and admire the stunning scenery as we cruised the canal. Canoeing was a delight. I'd really recommend it for anyone who lives and loves to be out of doors but has impaired ability - so therapeutic. Great team, great company, great food. Diet starts today :)

User

Had a lovely time. Ros Crana accommodation, crew, food, choice of activities, and scenery were excellent.

User

Had a fantastic week aboard Fingal, walking the Great Glen. I cannot recommend this highly enough - the crew, the guide, the food - everything was just splendid. I joined the cruise as a single traveller. I had single occupancy of a twin cabin, which made for a high level of comfort, and I was made very welcome by the other walkers and crew. I was also thoroughly spoilt for my 50th birthday.

User

Am so happy to have walked the Great Glen with Fingal of Caledonia. Thanks to the crew - Adam, Steve, Kevin, Robbie and Martin - for a memorable journey, fantastic food, and great company. Even the weather was glorious!

User

A very well organised and good natured week on Fingal where the fantastic crew anticipated our every need and were always on hand to assist in every way. They were well experienced at quickly assessing each individual's ocapabilities and offering alternative activity options whilst remaining very encouraging.

The food? Full of butter and salt and out of this world. I put on 4 pounds despite walking nearly the whole route! The cabins? Amazingly comfortable for

such a small space. We were able to unpack everything into the wardrobe and shelves or under the bottom bunk and push our bags underneath too.

Captain Adam's leadership skills? Faultless. He must have been to public school? Has he considered going into politics? The world might be a better place! Sweet young Magnus had no trouble dragging his geriatric group up and down dale with the utmost awareness and consideration. Kevin the cook - no words are good enough. Steve- the quiet one in the background making sure that everything on the barge worked well.

You might have gathered that we had a great time!

User

A fantastic week on the Fingal. Accommodation was excellent and food plentiful and tasty. It was great to have a choice of evening meal. Crew could not have been better. Our guide Susi was very knowledgeable about points of interest on the walks.

The Great Glen was beautiful, and serene a lovely place to walk.

If you are thinking of a walking holiday( or cycling as bikes are availale, canoes too) this is the one to go on. Top class!!
