Lots of action at the beaches this morning! Our contractors have been busy over the last few weeks recovering material locally from off-shore and using it to replenish our beaches. They have been working eastwards from Gundimore/Avon and are currently topping up the area at Friars Cliff in front of the wave wall. Perfect timing for the coming sunny weekend, enjoy everyone ☀️
Highcliffe Beach Clean Group have their second litter pick next weekend. If you want to help keep our beautiful coastline litter free, then you know where to be on Sunday 24th June!! 😉🗑️🏖️
The flags are back! 😁 Now happily flying once again at Avon, Friars Cliff and Highcliffe. It seems they have been sorely missed and not for the reason we were expecting....so many of you have told us you rely upon them for information about wind speed and direction and have been lost without them...we never realised how multi-functional they were!
Christchurch and East Dorset Councils are launching our #high545 campaign. To get involved please pick up 5 pieces of litter when visiting the beach and share a photo of what you have collected on your social media using #high545. We will reply from ours or one of our partners social media accounts with a high 5 emoji to say thank you and to show our appreciation for helping to keep our beaches natural, clean and safe for all. Your post will also enter you into our prize draw to win a Chilli's Water Bottle, for more info go to: http://d4u.org.uk/A3chY You can share your picture with the hashtag #high545 on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. www.chillysbottles.com

Avon Beach, Friars Cliff Beach and Highcliffe Beach have once again gained the Seaside Award which is judged and presented by the charity Keep Britain Tidy. Cllr Margaret Phipps, Champion for Rivers and Coastal Issues at Christchurch Coucnil celebrated the achievement with Officers from the Community and Recreation Team.
Come on down to Friars Cliff on Sunday 22 April and be a part of the Great Dorset Beach Clean.
Due to the weather we have had to cancel all of the Great British Spring Cleans.
Not long now until Keep Britain Tidy #GBSpringClean! There will be a number of events going on in and around Christchurch. The Rotary Club will be hosting the litter pick at Highcliffe Beach on Friday 2nd March and we will be at Mudeford Quay, Stanpit Rec and Christchurch Quay on Saturday 3rd March. Check out the poster for further details. Hope to see you there!
It was the warmest day of the year so Avon beach was really busy, too busy for us. It was quieter on the spit and walking at Hengistbry head. Also, the ferry from Christchurch to mudeford spit through the harbour was really tranquil.
I used to like visiting Steamer Point as it is dog friendly and normally very scenic. Today however, it was like a giant oil slick. There was a nasty scum covering the whole stretch of coast where people were still unbelievably bathing. Can't help thinking that the numerous jet-skis and power boats offering pleasure rides close to shore had something to do with it. Shame that a few have to ruin it for the many.
