This little lad is Harvey. Harvey visited our Hall road branch today to undergo a dental procedure. He was a very good boy but unfortuanetly did need to have a few teeth removed. Here he is in recovery receiving cuddles from our student veterinary nurse Emily. The line visible in the picture is where he had intravenous fluids connected, to help maintain his blood pressure during the procedure, and help aid his recovery. We look forward to getting further cuddles at his post op check.

Just a couple of reminders to keep your pets safe during this festive season. A number of foods and plants, which are common at this time of year, are actually toxic to our furry friends, and should be kept well away from them. Let's keep our pets safe this holiday season !

This little beauty is Brandy. Brandy was spayed today at our Hall road branch. Here she is in recovery with her little teddy friend.
She will be back in 2 days time for her post op check with the nurses to check her wound. We look forward to seeing them both then.

A massive thank you to all our supporters who took part in our recent competitions and events at our sprowston branch, in memory of our receptionist, Linda. We have raised an amazing Ā£453.43 for the dogs trust.
All of the competition winners have now been contacted. The dogs name was Dexter and Dora's breed is a bulldog x cocker spaniel. Thank you all for your help in supporting this wonderful charity.

This gorgeous boy is Todd. Todd is a nine year old Labrador owned by one of our Longwater veterinary nurses, Cayley. Todd was one of the first dogs to undergo our unique Ā£99 general anaesthetic and dental scale and polish offer. Luckily his teeth just needed a clean, and no extractions were necessary. His teeth now look a lot cleaner and his breath smells fresher. Read the comments under the photos to learn about his procedure.
If you would like to book your cat or dog in fo...r the offer please contact your local Norwich Companion Care branch to book in initially for a free of charge nurse check to assess the teeth, and then you can book in for the procedure. The offer is running from 3rd December until the 28th December Inclusive and covers the price of a general anaesthetic (regardless of the size of dog) AND a scale and polish. Extractions, if needed, pain relief and antibiotics , will be additional.

This gorgeous boy is Luke. Luke was in for a visit this week at our Hall road branch. Luke is a sphynx, a hairless breed of cat. His lack of fur means his owner has to keep him warm in a winter wardobe so he was sporting this fab ensemble. What a cutie !!

User

We would like to thank everyone who attended the 5k run at Catton park on Saturday for our dogs trust fundraiser. You are all stars.
Remember we still have our raffle and a number of games running at our Sprowston branch until the 30th November. There is still time to enter and all proceeds go to the dogs trust, an amazing charity which helps many dogs every year find loving homes.

November is national diabetes awareness month. Following on from our previous article, this article looks at how to treat diabetes in dogs and cats.
Diabetes is an incredibly complex disease and can prove challenging to treat. Treatment requires total dedication from owners and may, initially, require frequent veterinary visits. Since diabetes is due to a shortage of insulin in the body, treatment involves giving an injection of insulin under the skin, usually twice a day, t...o keep blood sugar levels under control (see picture showing Ellie injecting her cat Charlie). Routine and consistency are key in the treatment of diabetes and insulin needs to be given at almost the same time everyday. Meal times also require consistency.
The thought of injecting their animals can initially prove very daunting to owners, however this can be taught during free of charge nurse consultations, following a pets diagnosis by the vet. In fact we initially teach owners how to inject using injections of water and our trusty teddy dog, before moving on to injecting their own pets once their confidence has grown.
Once owners have started insulin injections, their pet's blood sugar levels, urine, weight and general appearance are regularly monitored. Owners can be taught how to measure their pets blood sugar levels at home, using a machine called a glucometer (see picture).
After initially starting insulin, levels may need to be adjusted or increased if blood tests show high blood sugar levels which indicate the diabetes is not being controlled. Changing insulin levels should only ever be done AFTER discussions with your veterinarian. Owners should NEVER adjust the dose themselves as this can have serious consequences.
This disease can be incredibly challenging to treat but with support and guidance from your veterinary team, regular monitoring and a consistent feeding and insulin routine, it is possible in many cases.
If you are worried about your pet, or would like more advice about diabetes, please contact your local Norwich Companion Care branch for advice.

Here are just a few of our receptionists from our 3 Norwich branches who recently attended one of our client care training courses, run by our head office. Regular training workshops ensure that our staff are up to date with training and are aware of current promotions and offers. They also ensure we are able to provide our clients with great customer service. As well as training, all of our branches have 'care to comment' card's in reception to provide opportunities for clients to either praise good service, or to give suggestions on how our service could be improved. We do read these cards regularly so please if you do have any suggestions on how we can improve please comment on a card.

Our Ā£99 dental scale and polish offer is back!
This offer has run throughout December for the last few years and several animals have benefited from this amazing offer. The offer is available for cats and dogs (of all sizes) and covers not only a dental scale and polish, but ALSO the cost of a general anaesthetic (usually alone at least Ā£150 for a medium sized dog, for a large or extra large breed considerably more). This offer covers the general anaesthetic and a scale and... polish only. If extractions are needed they will be priced additionally and any extractions will automatically require pain relief, as well as possible antibiotics. Pets will need to be booked in for a free of charge dental assessment with a nurse before the animal comes in for the dental. This is so we can assess the teeth and inform you if any extractions are likely to be necessary. We can also provide you with an estimate if we feel extractions may be necessary. The offer runs from monday 3rd December to friday 28th December Inclusive (not available on weekends). If you would like to book your pet in for this offer, as well as for your free of charge nurse consult beforehand, please contact your local branch. This offer gets very popular so please if you would like your pet booked in don't delay as there will be limited availability.

This gorgeous boy is Buka , who was in for his final vaccinations with our nurses this week. Buka is a Caucasian sheepdog, a large breed dog. He was weighing in at 32kg at 20 weeks old, which is normal range for this breed. He was very well behaved and unfazed by the whole process. We can't wait to have cuddles with this fluffy beauty again!

November is diabetes awareness month but did you know diabetes can affect animals too, including cats and dogs? This gorgeous kitty is Charlie. Charlie is owned by Ellie, one of our Sprowston veterinary nurses. Charlie is 13 and was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 2 years ago. Despite his diagnosis he continues to lead a happy and active lifestyle.
What is diabetes?
... There are 2 types of diabetes, diabetes insipidus, also known as water diabetes, and diabetes mellitus, also known as sugar diabetes. Diabetes insipidus is incredibly rare so this article will concentrate on the more common diabetes mellitus.
Diabetes mellitus is caused by a lack of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin regulates how the body uses glucose. Glucose, or sugar, comes from the carbohydrates in an animals food and is used as fuel for the body and provides the energy needed for the bodies organs to function effectively. In diabetic animals the glucose, or sugar, tends to collect in the animals bloodstream, rather than get moved to the organs where it is needed to help them work effectively.
What are the symptoms of diabetes?
Excessive thirst, increased urination, lethargy, increased appetite and weight loss can be symptoms of diabetes, however they can also be symptoms of other diseases so a diagnosis of diabetes is only ever made following consistently high glucose on blood tests, as well as the presence of glucose on a urine test.
Diabetes is a complex disease and can be challenging to treat. Successful treatment requires total dedication from owners, as well as consistency and routine in the animals feeding habits. Our next article will discuss treatment of the condition.

We want thank everyone at our Longwater and the Sprowston branch for all the help and care with our boy Stanley. From my panicked phone call at 4:30pm yesterday as he had eaten some of his rope toy to today. He is now resting after having a big operation performed from the vets at Spowston and then today a check up appointment at Longwater with Karen. We are so thankful to have our boy home safe with us! Thank you all so much! ļæ½

This time last week my cat fell very ill very quickly - the vets and nurses at companion care longwater were absolutely brilliant in a very difficult situation. Sadly I lost my poor kitty but I just wanted to commend the outstanding service from the team - kind, considerate and sensitive! They went out of their way to accommodate my requests. My dog is also registered with you and I will not take him anywhere else - thank you again for being amazing despite the worst outcome!

User

These guys have been amazing with my male cat & having to put up with me. Most people know my cat now which is nice & reassuring. Rian, James & rest of the team are amazing

User

Thank you to everyone who has helped us with our little Dobby and his amputation today. Sprowston branch are always so lovely and through this tough time there was no exception.

User

Thank you to all the staff at Companion Care Vets at Sprowston. Harry is making good progress after yesterday's op. I cannot fault the efficiency of the staff and the prompt action taken to operate, and remove the obstruction in his gut.

User

Thank you Ellie and all staff who saw my cat very quickly. She was very sick and had to go to sleep. Thank you for the lovely card we received in the post.

User

Massive thank you to all who have just helped us at Norwich Hall Road Companion Care Vets (The one near Asda) we are visiting here on holiday when our dog got two ticks. After trying to unsuccessful remove them ourselves we needed a vet to help with the deep rooted head. Not knowing the area we had managed to book in and go to the wrong vets twice (not a good day) with the last one taking us to the "wrong" Pets at Home! However they couldn't have been more helpful when realising our plight and the lady on reception squeezed us in for the nurse to take a look. This unfortunately confirmed our fears and as such we believe vet Stefan and a lady vet stayed behind past their home time to help get them out of our dog. Brilliant can do attitude done with a smile. These guys and girls know their stuff too. Plus they kept apologising to us for the wait! Can't say thank you enough! Highly recommend!

User

I would like to take the opportunity to thank vet karen and the staff at the longwater branch this week. After my dog ozzy was admitted and seriously unwell they done an amazing job of caring for him and getting him back on his feet i really can't thank them enough fantastic service throughout

User

I would like to send a HUGE thank you to all the staff at companion care vets at Sprowston, especially Alex. They have been kind and caring throughout my dogs period of extreme sickness and Alex's quick action ,correct diagnosis and gentle but thorough care has meant he is quickly getting back to his old self again (: i really cannot thank you all enough you have all been lovely

User

I have been going to the Sprowston Branch since the very first opened in Norwich. In fact my cat (who sadly I lost 3 years ago) was the very first animal to have an operation there and I haven't looked back since.

They have looked after my 3 rabbits, 3 cats, my tortoise and 2 dogs. Sadly I have lost all my animals except for my tortoise and my faithful old German Shepherd who is sadly at the end of her life.

I always see either Rob or Riaan and I can not praise their expertise and compassion highly enough.

Wouldn't go anywhere else.

User

I have been bringing my animals here for years and have never had a problem. They're always friendly and helpful. We have sadly lost 3 dogs in the last 2 years now which has been awful. Our most recent old dog had to be put to sleep this week and the care and kindness of the staff has been wonderful.

Rob especially was so lovely and looked after her so well. The reception staff were lovely when we brought her in to be put to sleep. They immediately came and took us into a room so we didn't have to sit in the waiting room upset.

Thank you to everyone there who has loved and cared for our pets so well. Wouldn't go anywhere else x

User

Had to take my 5 month old lab puppy to the longwater vets as he ate a ball whole!! All the staff were so helpful, the receptionist, the vet and the vet nurse. Thank you so much for your help last saturday. The ball has finally appeared overnight, I found it in the lounge rug this morning, including the squeaker. So relieved.

User

Fantastic vets you are all amazing after saving our dog ozzy last week.keep up the good work and thankyou so much.

User

Cannot recommend the Longwater branch highly enough - they have given the best care to our dogs in the past, both of whom required specialist care treatment in their latter years. The vets and nurses at Longwater are amongst the most caring I have ever come across - no hesitation in recommending.

User

Can't thank the vets at hall road enough - they looked after our fancy rat so well when he was being neutered and we didn't think twice about where to go when we had to take our dumbo rat as she was seriously ill - they tried so hard to save her, not once were we made to feel like "it was just a rat", they treated us with kindness and respect and done all they could for Bilbo. Unfortunately we had to have her put to sleep, again they were amazing and let us have as much time as we needed. Today I have received a lovely, hand written card to say sorry for our loss of our much loved pet, Bilbo. Wouldn't go anywhere else, even though we have a vets in our village I still take mine to hall road. Thank you.

User

The vet herself was brilliant but the reception lady made me wait for medication which I ordered before I arrived. My cat was very distressed but she didnā€™t care! She advised I order before I arrived, which I did, no apology! My poor cat messed her box whilst we waited.

User

I have now had to have 2 dogs pts and have not received a card saying sorry, whereas when I had my first dog pts in my own home ( not a good experience as it wasnā€™t our preferred vet as he was on holiday, and the vet that came was not the best at giving sedation) we did get one ....do you not now do this itā€™s very strange as most vets do. I have a dog being treated by Alex at present and so far we are pleased with her although Rob is usually our preferred vet.

User

Shocking! 4 times Iā€™ve requested the vet that saw my partner about our dying cat call me and Iā€™ve not even received an acknowledgement. Iā€™ve received some calls asking me if I want the medication that I want to talk to them about so they can collect some more money! First call Iā€™m making in the morning is to change to another vet!

User

Last Wednesday we brought our 12 week old pug puppy to have her final injections (sprowston branch) We were told by the lady that this was not the case and that she was due to come back and have boosters in 2 weeks to which we corrected her twice and said no you are wrong they are due today. The lady was adamant that we were wrong so after arguing it twice we decided that she is the qualified vet and trusted what she told us despite us being told other wise on the first appointment of her injections.

Yesterday we brought Her In to have her eyes checked and were seen by a very nice man who informed us that Our puppy was given wrong injections last week!! As you can imagine we are really not happy with this as we argued this twice last week and we knew we were right. When we asked what will happen now he said well she "should" be fine. I'm sorry but this is not good enough, she is 12 weeks old and if your vet had bothered to check Her notes properly last week then She would of known this.

I do not think that this kind of practice is good enough and we will not be returning. I have emailed to complain and have not yet had a reply!!
