Blockchain has become a buzzword few of us understand. Most would probably be surprised to discover that the block chain is actually ‘just’ a ledger – a.k.a. record of financial accounts and transactions – but made digital. However, the potential for block chain to upend society’s most powerful institutions, including those of the property world, is vast. For, this digital ledger – operated through encryption and decryption – is so transparent and easy to authenticate it elim...inates the need for banks, whose fundamental role in the modern world is to act as something between a guarantor and a mediator. Just one example of how this could impact the housing industry is the speed with which international transactions will take place. International transactions are currently riddled with delays; it is not feasible for banks to have partnerships with all other 10,000 banks in the world and so money bounces from one bank to another until it finds its home. By engaging with block chain Ehab plans to streamline its (often international) transactions, making the construction process faster and cheaper.
