Emmaus Potteries

About Emmaus Potteries

An Emmaus Community is a unique charity that enables people to move on from homelessness, providing work and a home in a supportive, family environment.

Emmaus Potteries Description

At Emmaus Potteries, the charity was established in February 2017 and took over the ownership of Furniture Mine from Aspire Housing in September 2017. We are now developing the furniture re-use business whilst at the same developing the essential residential element to house our companions & become a fully-fledged Emmaus community.

As with hundreds of Emmaus communities around the UK, Europe & across the world, Emmaus Potteries is a unique charity that enables people to move on from homelessness by providing work and a home in a supportive, family environment.

The Emmaus community is underpinned by solidarity to support & give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.

ASHA, one of our lovely neighbours in Hanley, do amazing work supporting so many locally housed asylum seekers. If you can, please support their campaign to get this centre closure decision reversed that now means each asylum seeker has to regularly travel to Salford & back to report to the authorities.

One victim was 41-year-old Robert Wallis, who was found dead next to his mother at a Canterbury homeless drop-in centre in March. She said “I woke up and reached out for his hand but it felt really cold. I realised he was dead but tried to revive him.” Heartbreaking :-(

"We only need to understand one thing and then try to base our whole life on it: and that thing is that the first person we must help in all things is the person who is suffering the most." Extract from the rules of life of Emmaus companions.

Brilliant news! Shame it took the Government 4 years to drop this terrible, ill-thought out policy but thankfully they have!
