Epping Forest District Museum Description

Epping Forest District Museum has been based in Waltham Abbey since 1981 and tells the story of the Epping Forest District through its collections of over 50, 000 objects. The Museum, Heritage and Culture team also run a number of heritage and cultural events, workshops and activities both on site and out and about in the community.

The museum is housed in a Grade II* listed Tudor building and is part of Epping Forest District Council. The museum also manages Lowewood Museum in Hoddesdon on behalf of Broxbourne Borough Council. Abbey Gateway, 1927
This view, taken from inside what is now the Abbey Gardens, shows the small gate closed so animals from the Abbey Farm which grazed in the field couldn't escape. The houses on the left of the gate are no longer there.
