Essex Fighting Arts Thurrock Description

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT LEARNING HOW TO DEFEND YOURSELF? We now live in a world where there are more and more cases of people being attacked, mugged, raped or worse so wouldn't it make sense to have the skills to fight back when things do go bad? Surely learning an effective fighting art purely designed for the street has to be your first thought don't you think? How would you defend yourself in an attack with no weapons? How would you defend yourself if they had a knife or a bat /lump of wood or gun? Is it not better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 and live to justify your actions? If these are some of the questions buzzing around in your head then maybe Essex Fighting Arts is where you should looking for your answers. . . First introductory lesson is always FREE so if you are interested then read on. . .

Mixed martial arts is an excellent way to stay fit & motivated while learning the skills needed to survive in our ever changing society. At Essex Fighting Arts we teach various techniques from Filipino Kali including panantukan, pangamot, dumog, stick & knife. But also elements of Jun Fan Gung Fu, Ju Jitsu and other effective systems. This adult mixed martial arts class is not taught as a sport but with self-protection and self defence in mind.
I am very proud that we have a relaxed, friendly & welcoming atmosphere and this is something I feel very strongly about maintaining. I am very particular when taking on new students as they have to reflect the same ethos and attitude my existing students have. If there is a potential to disrupt the group or individuals within the class, then EFA would not be for them. People that come to our club, feel at ease to train and learn with no pressure or external influences that could hamper their progress. This makes for a happy student, productive sessions and excellent acquisition of skills. . .

Classes are held at:
Robert Clack Leisure Centre,
Gosfield Road, Dagenham, RM8 1JU

Thursdays 8 to 9pm (adults)

This video I go through 1 to 12 lock flow. Not the easiest thing to show on camera as there are some intricate moves which really needs you to be present and close and also to feel the locks go on as well as applying them yourself. A small part of the big jigsaw as I always say but they have their place and when applied properly are very good.

Today's video looks at a frenzied knife attack or peppering with a knife. This was of course after I have already done one bloody video only to realise the phone was on selfie mode. 😂😂😂 These techniques were taken from Guro Ron Balicki and his take on what you would need to do when there's no options left and you're fighting for your life from this kind of attack.

Absolutely great class last night at Essex Fighting Arts in Orsett Village Hall. Only a few of us, but we were able to really hone the skills that we have been training from Bob Breen’s 4D combat. I have been chatting to Bob and getting pointers as I have been drilling these techniques in and it is making so much sense now. I have been training / studying for many years and this new direction completely slots in to all that I have studied and is so effective. Even the analogi...es of a boy in a field floating a balloon just describes what you’re doing so well. Bruce Lee used to talk about an exhibition and I have lived by this for many years watching big fancy moves, which may look great but useless in a real situation so what’s the point? 4D combat takes this theory to a whole new level and completely sucks your opponent into your spiders web and not seeing the boy in the field floating a balloon who is really an IED (Bob’s words). The guys were drilling these concepts in nicely but I see this similar to when I studied thescience of road racing (Keith Code’s Twist of the Wrist and he talks about having $100 and when you first start you are spending $99 of this on your attention leaving no more to spend on other things such as points of reference etc… Well this was no different as the guys were spending so much of the $100 on stopping the hits that they had not a lot left for their strikes and directional movements etc… BUT the more they did it and drilled in these concepts, the more of the $100 they had to spend on other techniquesand the more they relaxed. Less chaos as Bob would say! Once you are able to relax, it gives you much more time to strike, slap, disrupt and throw off balance etc… Becomes a bit of a game, but important not to stay in one game for too long and more 3 beats and then change the game. i.e. when the slaps and eye wipes were hitting their target 9 times out of 10, I would change the game because they were expecting them and used throat jabs, rising elbows, clench and shoulder barges, foot traps and more. Then it starts to open more doors to all that I have learned over the years in the Filipino fighting arts and all that I have taught my stud

This video I'm going through some Panantukan techniques from a jab cross involving jamming the rear hand (jamming the gun), outside deflection entries, split entries and inside gunting. I love these kind of techniques as elements of them can work in so manyscenarios and just old fashioned aggression. 😉😁https://youtu.be/CaL9qGC78OE

In this video I'm discussing knives again and why we train with them and drill in these reactions and techniques. I explain that the main thought should be to run or give them what they want. But if you are unable to run or give them what they want and you havr run out of options, then you need to do something. 'It's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war' - Bruce Lee
