What a fab day, spent at fossils galore! This place is great, so much fun! the children had a great time fossil hunting, panning for gems, they learnt loads! The staff are fantastic and so knowledgable, the museum was great! The little ones loved the fact that they met a real palaeontologists!!

We took our two sons to fossils galore this morning. We had a marvellous time and it was definitely a different way to spend a Saturday morning. We found the experience to be excellent value for money and we all thoroughly enjoyed our time with you. Everyone was so so friendly and we especially enjoyed talking to Thomas and learning so much about fossils. We will certainly be back.

We have been to fossils galore twice now, the second time for the Nigel Marven meet and greet. It's an amazing place. It is small but that's part of the beauty. We arrived early on the Nigel Marven day and spent 3 hours there. You do have to pay for activities like fossil hunting, archeological dig, geode cracking and sifting for shark teeth a but you do get to keep the geode and three best finds from each activity. There was a queue so maybe people could have been given time slots but as I was second in the queue we had an amazing time. Every member of staff was kind and helpful and had so much information. The children who volunteered also knew their stuff and were clearly engaged and empowered by their role. The fossils are fab. It was busy but everyone seemed to be having fun. My children enjoyed the reptile handling too all holding two snakes which they loved. I did think I shouldn't have been charged three pounds to accompany my children to this - no problem paying for them to handle snakes or myself if I wanted to handle something but not sure why I had to pay when I had no intention of touching the snakes ha ha. But not real resentment as the money I'm sure supported the animals. When we visited on a quieter day without a celebrity my kids had he place to themselves and were given so much information it was an amazing treat for them. This is an amazing place. We will visit again. I would totally recommend it.

Visited today and the school children had a brilliant day and we would love to visit again x

Top place to visit if you or a member of your family are interested in fossils at all. Great value activities and lots of interesting information given by the friendly team. For our children to hunt for fossils and other minerals and keep them was amazing.

User

Took my granddaughters aged 13 and 7 to Fossils Galore this afternoon. They both thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They said that the crystals were amazing and were engrossed in looking for fossils. The young man who was our guide for the visit was very knowledgeable and explained everything to them. There were lots of things to see. It is a good place to visit, to have fun and to learn at the same time.

Tonight we are exhausted, elated and our house is full of fossils. Today was our first fossil hunting trip to Kings Dyke in Whittlesey run by Fossils Galore and it was fantastic. The organisation was really good, we were notified well before the day of the location, details of the trip and safety requirements. We hired 3 digging tool kits which held everything necessary for the day. Whilst Jamie led us down to fossil hunting area he explained about the brickworks, the different layers in the ground and the clay we would find our fossils in (this was really interesting!). We had three hours of fossil finding and I never thought I'd say "oh it's just another belemnite, just another ammonite, just another devils toe nail..." to say they were in abundance is a huge understatement!! Jamie's knowledge and enthusiasm shone through and he was so encouraging to us all, particularly my children aged 4, 6 and my budding palaeontologist aged 8. He also showed my mum that she had found fish bones, scales and poo... She was delighted but hadn't realised at all!!

We will definitely be booking to join more fossil hunting trips in future. We've loved visiting the shop and will continue to do this and recommend to others but today has taken it to a whole new level for us. Thank you Fossils Galore, it was fabulous!!!

User

This was our first visit and it definitely won't be our last. We loved this experience as a family. My boys loved the activities especially sifting for shark teeth. A special thank you to Holly our tour guide who was incredibly knowledgeable and brilliant with the boys. This is a must visit.

User

This place really is lovely! We visited with our little boys today. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff extremely helpful. For just £12 my little boy did 6 different short activities. He panned for crystals, dug for fossils, found some dinosaur bones and built it for a prize, panned for shark teeth and did an archeological dig. Not only did he have fun doing the activities he choose 3 items from each activity to take home. These items were all put in seperate bags and identified for him with an appropriate label. He can't wait to show these off at show and tell this week. We will be visiting again soon and our 5 year old already wants to know when!?

Thank you fossils galore. My children had a fab time doing the activities, the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable and it was great to see the amazing "indie". We will be back.

User

My kids really enjoyed themselves and came away with lots of goodies that they dug for.

The staff were brilliant and the older gent who helped my boys was great. Full of knowledge and could answer anything and was brill with my 3 year old, keeping him focused and making him laugh.

Would be good if there was more space to do the activities and understand that the outdoor area will be in use around Easter.

Brill gift shop and a massive range of things for your little ones and older ones to want to take home.

Prices are affordable for activities as I did a 4 for 3 activity bundle.

Will defo go back, thanks Fossils Galore x

If you’ve passed by Fossils Galore you’re missing a treat!! We took in a few fossils for Jamie to identify and couldn’t believe how much was going on inside that seemingly small “shop”. As well as the impressive and clearly labelled fossils collection there were lots of activities going on for very excited children, Will definitely be back with my dinosaur mad grandson .It was great watching the process of dinosaur bones being revealed and hearing the story behind it . If you’ve got a question about fossils and Jamie doesn’t know the answer, I’d be very surprised!! Can’t wait to try the guided fossil walks! Thanks for taking time out of your very busy day to show us around.

User

First time visitor. Took 2 x 11 year olds and 1 x 2 year old. Was greeted as soon as we got there and explained about the activities. The boys chose 4 activities with dinosaur dig and it came in at a reasonable £10 each. They said my 2 year old could play in the sand and she was very happy just doing that and running around while the boys did their activities. Activities took about an hour total and they got a big haul of stuff so didn't make me stop at the gift shop on way out. We will be back again to try some other activities soon as were lots to choose from. Highly recommended.

User

Even my son got enthusiastic and engaged - no mean feat. We could not have found a better activity to fill a half-term morning without going somewhere like London. And the staff (volunteers?) - really interested in what they do and easy to talk to.

User

A fab really interesting place on my doorstep ! Loads of activities for children & really friendly staff ! Well worth a visit ! I’ve never seen my children so occupied !! Learned so much about fossils too ! & saw a real dinosaur fossil ..

260 odd round trip to Fossils Galore yesterday and I shall do it again. Great exhibits, prepping fossils and finding a couple of firsts for me - fish bone and different belemnite. Thank you Tyler for the teaching - I'll let you know how it goes with the vinegar! Staff extremely knowledgeable and hospitable, thank you. Could have spent a fortune! And, I saw a dinosaur!!!!!

User

Took my 8 and 4 1/2 year olds today and really enjoyed it. I booked the activities on-line and got a good deal. The boys were really engaged in all the activities and had lots of fun doing them. They returned home laden with treasures they found in the pits, all labelled and bagged up, which made them even more special. The shop is full of affordable items . A definate must for any child interested in dinosaurs, archaeology or gem stones. Lovely staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about their jobs. Thanks, my boys loved it.

The event on Saturday 30th July was well advertised and looked really interesting. I took my 2 dinosaur crazy girls along to see what it was all about. Though the children seemed to enjoy it, to be honest it was not for us and we will not attend any further events.

Like I said the event advertising was well done as was the communications (I had problems receiving my ticket via email). The person who sorted it was very responsive and helpful. Although it said a ticket only event and you must have your ticket number printed/visible on a smart phone upon entry. This was not however the case, we queued outside for getting on an hour (with people who hadn't bothered purchasing a ticket online) to get to the entrance to have just have our name ticked off a list! To eventually get in to the VERY expensive shop, in which the children started with the 'I wants'. We started fighting though the crowd awaiting Autographs, to get out onto a terrace which consisted of 2 huge sandpits, entertainment and water panning stations for which the kids could pan for gold/shark teeth or dig for fossils for £3 a pop (in which you get to only take 3 home), and a lady with a very long queue for dinosaur face painting (a reasonable £2). Head up stairs for a reptile encounter at the further cost of £1 per child and £3 per adult. My eldest was interested in this however not my cuppa tea, but was happy to pay for her to go in - but on the door (after queuing for a further 20 mins) we were told if you enter you pay! £5 for one child to touch a reptile - I think not (sorry, I wasn't willing to be a bad parent and let her go in unattended)! All in all a very expensive hour and a half, as I didn't want to disappoint the children in it being a complete waste of time.

I understand there is no funding for Fossils Galore, however it could have been so much better. I could most defiantly see what they are trying to do and perhaps in the future they may get there. On a positive note though the staff (all volunteers, I believe), couldn't have been anymore friendlier or helpful. They were lovely. One lovely man helped my eldest whilst going on his lunch break, put his fish and chips on the side and spent a bit of time talking to her about the shark teeth she had collected. Brilliant.

Final word, I can see what they are trying to achieve at fossils galore, but they have a little way to go yet and doubt we will return anytime soon. Better planning, a ticketing system that works and a much better layout - it could be so much more.

User

Took my children too the dinosaur exhibition and spent £2.50 to experience queuing up down the road for an hour before being squeezed into a cramped and overcrowded shop. Decided to pass on the opportunity to spend a further £3.00 to sift through some sand and after realising that there was nothing to keep the kids entertained they grew bored and we left. Spoke to others outside who were also disapointed at the poor quality of what was laughably called an exhibition. Not that you'll get a true sense of this as they're removing nearly all negative comments and then blocking the people that post them. If you can't take the criticism folks, do a better job.

As I am unable to reply to your comment, I will have to do it here.

I would like to inform you that nothing at all was explained on the day and certainly not to me. We had no discussion so I'm not sure who you are confusing me with.

I appreciate that you receive no funding and that you are all volunteers and to be honest you did all seem to be friendly and positive people; however the event itself was a disorganised mess.

I din't enjoy it and neither did my children and when I spoke to people outside once I had left, they too felt the same with many of them leaving within 30 minutes of entering the premises.

Still, at least you've left my comment on the page (for now but it's a shame that you've removed the other bad comments - a tad unprofessional methinks) but the whole event was a let down and a waste of our morning.

The only positive thing I can say is that I caught some Pokemon whilst waiting in the queue.

As for the reptile encounter, if anyone wants to experience a good one then I suggest that they go to Baytree next time they have a reptile event as it's free admission and free handling of animals with lots of enthusiastic herpetologists.

What a fab day, spent at fossils galore! This place is great, so much fun! the children had a great time fossil hunting, panning for gems, they learnt loads! The staff are fantastic and so knowledgable, the museum was great! The little ones loved the fact that they met a real palaeontologists!!

User

User

User
