George And Dragon, Chipstead Description

At the heart, the George & Dragon remains a local village pub, offering a warm welcome, friendly service and excellent food. Our menu changes daily depending on local supplies, our team of enthusiastic chefs work passionately everyday to use the best of Kent and Sussex produce, so everything is fresh, seasonal and where possible local.

Sticking with the belief that where possible produce should be local, we are proud to offer a small range of beers from the Westerham brewery, just 5 miles away. Along with Westerhams award winning Grass Hopper Bitter, owner Robert Wicks has helped develop & brew our own “George’s Marvellous Medicine” cask ale using local hops, malt & water.

Nestled in the Garden of England, Chipstead is the perfect destination for an afternoon drink in the summer months, park up in our extensive car park and take a seat & drink in one of our gardens areas.

So whether you are popping in for a coffee during the day, a quick drink after work or sitting down to enjoy a tender piece of venison and a glass of Claret, we are sure you will find the setting, ambience and above all the hospitality just to your liking.

2 of the 3 phases of power for the village have failed, as we are supplied by all 3 phases, most of our lights and equipment isn’t working, apologies to all effected but this one is out of our control, not even sure if we can blame the snow!

Thrilled to be able to reveal our newly decorated private dining room or more aptly named “pig pen” featuring gorgeous wallpaper by Belynda Sharples and stunning artwork by Zaza Shelley Art

User

What a fabulous pub. Booked a celebratory lunch for 14 and we weren't disappointed. Great service, great food, great atmosphere and fabulous timber-framed architecture.

User

Visited for the first time for Sunday lunch and the food was great, although the garlic bread was unusual and probably wouldn’t order again. The mains were really good though which more than made up for this. The service was faultless and everyone was attentive. Overall a very nice lunch and we hope to return again.

Visited for the 3rd or 4time last night and overall I feel the place has diminished in quality and atmosphere.

Only table available a a " corner nook" next to the fireplace with a communal sofa behind my chair. This is where children were allowed to sit.

Food: good, excellent Tempura summer vegetables and Pea and broad bean with mint Creme Fraiche were executed and presented well.

Mains

Black olive sundries tomato and rosemary risotto with crumbled goats cheese. Again presented well and brought together all the flavours.

However this may be better of offered as a starter

Pan roasted chicken supreme. Good and an excellent calvados cream

Facilities

The menus presented were disgusting, stained and wrinkled and clearly been around the block a few times.

Ladies toilet did not have any toilet paper

Overall the pub remains a good venue but it has deteriorated in my opinion from the high point of around a year ago

User

Very friendly lovely place, staff welcome you when you walk in which creates a good experience to start.

Food was really exceptional,

We had smoked salmon, and blue cheese walnut salad to start , very fresh and presented beautifully.

For main I had the duck ,,,even in the finest restaurants i have always been disappointed when I order the duck it’s never cooked right ,but it was cooked absolutely perfectly.

From prior experience in the restaurant industry the staff have mastered the balance of friendly but extremely professional.

We will definitely be visiting again and utmost compliments to the chef.

User

Purely fantastic and great staff will definitely be coming back

User

Lovely meal and good service, just a bit chilly in eating area. Overall great.

User

Lovely light lunch, beautifully fresh, didn't have to wait long and very reasonably priced. Good idea to pre book too. Stunning location with lots of charm.

User

It’s only our second time at this pub/resturant, the food is consistently good, staff are very helpful and polite, smiley etc, the owner is up front and extremely personable.

Great ambiance, well worth a visit, and they have a loyalty card, don’t take my word for it, give it a try.

User

It was my first visit and so pleased to have found it. Lovely cosy place and such friendly staff. Menu is good and food very nice! Will be back for sure and happily recommend it to others.

User

Having eaten here a couple of times before it seemed like the right venue for a meal with our family visiting from overseas. We weren’t disappointed, the service was as usual attentive, polite and unhurried; the food excellent great menu not overloaded & confusing but something for everyone and cooked/presented to perfection, so tasty; a great selection of wine/drinks and a price that reflected the quality of food etc but wasn’t extortionate. Our family loved the whole experience & we will definitely be returning.

User

Great food great service. Location perfect with sunny garden space for pre dinner drinks. Have celebrated birthdays and other special days here and have never been disappointed!!

User

Excellent food!

Very good service and wonderful company.

User

Delicious food, attentive staff and a great atmosphere!

User

Brilliant meal last night for my birthday. Service and food excellent. Will be back soon

User

Ben and his staff always make you feel welcome whether its for a cosy meal or propping up the bar for a few drinks and a chat. If you haven't had a chance to visit then you are missing out.

User

Nice little pub - good menu and food was well prepared and tasty. Took a long time to get served which is only reason why its not 5 stars!

User

Just had Sunday lunch. The meal was very presentable but my wife is a veggie but loves Sunday lunch. Unfortunately limited for veggies. More veg would help but mine I enjoyed. Had the beeth, sorry beef (had a couple of pints of ale). Came up way I asked. Dessert was rhubarb and frangipane with cream. Very nice and not to sweet. We were given a small pack of chocolate truffles for a belated mothers' day gift. Nice touch. Overall a nice experience but why give themselves such hard work and just have Sunday lunches. Service good and attentive with an obvious young crew. Well done. Parking is limited.

User

Gorgeous pub, but as the sun had made an appearance we sat outside. As always food was amazing and staff were great!

User

Staff require training on dealing with “walk ins” as we were referred too.

A simple sorry we are fully booked would suffice.

Wouldn’t now book for our Australian friends who visit next week, we only called in to test the water for them and found it cold to be honest.
