Year 10 head student, Alfie Benson has been working on a STEM project for the past 5 months. On Monday 2nd July Alfie launched a weather balloon from the school field carrying scientific sampling equipment as well as two GoPro cameras. The balloon is designed to travel up to approximately 35,000m in to the stratosphere, well above the cruising altitude of commercial airliners.
In addition, the balloon carried a raspberry pi transmitter (built and programmed by Alfie) which tr...ansmitted live telemetry data (altitude / location) as well as live images back to the school.
Alfie has built a website where you will be able to see video footage of the launch and photos. This photo has been taken form around 24km into the stratosphere!
