Alison Kenward, a BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach has the love of horses and dressage running through her veins. Her passion for coaching has helped all ages and abilities in the saddle with a positive mindset at the heart of her teaching.
Sam Hobden from Haynet recently caught up with Alison in this latest Chatting A Bit interview, to find out more about her life with her beloved horses:
Your passion for horses is incredibly strong! Were you both brought up in this environment as ...a child?
I remember being introduced to horses and knowing I wanted to spend my time with them. I have wonderful memories of going to ride at Tower Farm in Rugby when they still had a Riding School. It was a magical place. Later I went to a Riding School in Coventry and continued to plead for a pony of my own.
I remember the excitement too of reading Horse & Pony Magazine every fortnight. When I was 9 my first pony Toby made all of my dreams come true. He was kept at livery and my first competition was at Walsgrave Amateur RC, I hacked there!

Even if the love of horses does not run through your veins, Black Beauty by Anna Sewell is an incredibly well known story told emotionally through the eyes of this beautiful horse that everyone has heard of. 🐴📚
With over fifty million copies sold, Black Beauty is one of the best selling books of all time. Author Anna Sewell composed the novel in the last years of her life where she remained housebound. Thankfully she lived to see her novel become a success upon publication bu...t sadly passed away only five months later. However, she would never be able to realise how loved and cherished her story of Black Beauty would become.
First published in 1877, there has been numerous books, films and tv series telling Black Beauty’s story through the generations. I was invited to review the latest edition of Black Beauty with its enchanting illustrations by Christian Birmingham. I had read the book many decades ago in my childhood and remember well the tv series back in the seventies which I loved. When the book arrived, turning the pages of this charming hardback edition immediately transported me back to Victorian times which the story is based.

Leyburn entrepreneur Hannah Russell launches new designs to help Australia’s wildfires
Leyburn author Hannah Russell and businesswoman has launched two designs to help Australia’s wildfires. Over 8.4 million hectares of land has currently been burned to the ground due to these devastating sweeping wildfires. Millions of animals have lost their lives or are being injured in the horrendous fires and animals are continuing to be rescued.
Hannah Russell from Leyburn has launche...d two designs of koalas which have been printed on to clothing and merchandise with 100% of the funds going to Australian wildlife animal charities. The money raised will assist with emergency veterinary care and scientific intervention such as exploring supplementary feeding for animals who have survived, but whose habitats have been destroyed in the bush fires.
Hannah said ‘I have been left devastated by the ongoing emerging news from Australia and being in the UK I feel pretty helpless in how I could help. I started to think about things I could do using the business resources I have and put a plan in place last week. Over the weekend I launched the designs and have had a large number of orders so far, so I’m hoping that continues. One of the companies I work with on the clothing has pledged to double what I raise from the clothing, which is brilliant and will go towards helping the animals’
To shop the clothing you can visit the website here – https://shop.spreadshirt.co.uk/HannahRuss ellDesigns/
Unfortunately, there is currently no clear end in sight for the bush fires and experts say it could last months. Numerous charities are currently working around the clock to try and save Australia’s animals… So let’s help them as much as we can by raising vital funds to save as many of the animals affected by these devastating wildfires. 🐨🦘🇦🇺
